    Hi Alex great video Thank you. I have a 2012 E350 Bluetec with OM642 engine. On my car the tensioner is easily accessible once the passenger side air filter box is removed. The tensioner is easily accessible right above the Alternator. I pulled my tensioner out today and it is in the exactly same condition as yours.. it is fully extended and coming apart as you show in your video. When it come apart like that it is also extends more then a new tensioner so in my case I have to change the chain. A new tensioner would actually make things worse since it would not extend as much as my broken one... Sucks but need to install a new chain and tensioner to fix this. Cheers.

    I just did my .
    But it's 5 minute job w/o pulling wheel off from top.
    Just rotate crank on 40° before TDC

    Before starting the engine disconnect plug from the Cam sensor located on the top of the right side of the head ( Passenger side)
    You crank the engine to build oil pressure without starting the engine only turning by the starter.
    Difficult to install the tensioner because is full of oil - press down and push out all oil.
    New tensioners improved one not have oil inside for that reason very easy to install.
    Never turn engine backword - in this job not need turn engine by hands

      The easiest would be to rotate the crank to 40 degrees before TDC.
      After installing tensioner rotate clockwise

    Actually, its a 10 minutes job. Without removing wheel etc. Just turn the engine manually with the wrench to loose the pressure from the chain guide. Then putting the new tensioner is very easy without any force. My old tensioner was damaged just like yours, but replacing it, only made things worst. I have to roll a new chain. Previous owner did too many kms with this rattling, and chain was too streched for a new tensioner.

    • @noleksandr
      @noleksandr  4 роки тому

      I didn’t turn engine to release tension.
      I removed right tire and splash shield and installed tensioner. You have to put some good pressure at the beginning .
      Turning engine could end up in skipping tooth and timing.

    I went through 10 minutes of this gentlemens grief and said, forget about it, I took the tensioners thread and ran the very edge of the threads on the grinder about 1/8 inch in and just enough to basically make it a self tapping big bolt, in theory, I made a jig that hooked to the bottom piece on the chassis that allowed me to get leverage on the the tensioner, it comes compressed and should be a no brainer to install, but to get it to apply pressure, there is a process that could cause the chain to jump teeth, I DID NOT TAKE THAT RISK,l once I leveraged into into the threads, the ground down threads got it to start threading immediately with an open end wrench, I did it by myself, but if someone can leverage the part into the threads while you tighten the tensioner, its a ten minute job, no tires to remove or sensors to disconnect. and that's how I did it. good luck, without making the tensioners threads theoretically self tapping you will sweat bullets trying to get it to thread in straight without ruining the threads on the block.

      Tensioner operates on oil pressure. Make sure there is no oil leak around tensioner and you have enough oil.
      After replacing I had chain rattle for 5-6seconds and then it went away.

    • @noleksandr
      @noleksandr  3 роки тому +1

      There is no set interval. If you change oil every 5-7k miles, chain should go for 300k+ miles. Few ppl mentioned that their chain is stretched at 100-150k miles and requires replacement.
