Hey man I absolutely love watching these videos. I am in my early 20s and I love to listen to the older generation as a lot of that wisdom is gone and forgotten. I run a cattle feedlot with my parents and I raise sheep, a few hogs, milk a couple cows and farm my own ground as well. I am an IH and White tractor guy but I really enjoy seeing these nice older Deere tractors and hearing their stories. My big horse is a 5088 I call ugly duckling because it’s got no paint and there were mice in the cab when I bought it. I bought it dirt cheap because it had been sitting outside for years but the engine and trans are tight and I put a chrome pipe on it and turned the pump up and she barks like an old hound dog pulling my 6 18 IH 770 plow. I tried to get into milking cows which many people laugh at but I worked for my buddy in his double 3 Surge Auto Flow parlor and I fell in love with dairy farming. Unfortunately in North Dakota we have terrible trucking and all the milk goes out of state. DFA is all that’s left, AMPI and Land O Lakes are long gone and DFA screws you any chance they get. They told me fill a tanker or get a job flipping burgers so that ended my dairy dream. We are down to 34 dairy farms and 1 milk inspector in the state. My sister got married and lives out in Wisconsin so I visited her last winter and got to tour the Hoard’s Dairyman farm and Sprecher root beer in Milwaukee. Anyhow this comment is plenty long but thank you for the videos and keep on showing old iron at work and talking about milking cows.

in the 90s and early 2000s I had a farm sitting buisness. I have milked cows in 96 barns in 16 counties here in NY state. today at 60 years old I milk cows for a Mennonite man that bought a second farm for his boys. his boys didnt want it so I have milked a hundred cow dairy for the last 10 years. and I love my cows

The amazing thing to me is a 40+ year old Westendorf loader that isn't leaking down.

Nice video. Nice gentleman. I used to drive a milk truck. I loved dealing with farmers. I always say there are people, then there are farmers. I perfer to be with farmers.

88 was a dry year. I remember it well. And those "Year Round Cabs" left a LOT to be desired. Rattled louder than the engine noise!

In 1992, one of our neighbors retired. He couldn't sell, and he couldn’t get anyone to rent. My dad went to the bank and they said absolutely not. I believe 30000 a quarter is what he wanted. Crazy to wrap your mind around. Now land is trading for 650000 a quarter here.

Call me crazy but, I feel the loss of dairy farms is linked to our soils degrading-the diversity of feed grains, hay, cereal grain, manure, etc often used in dairy operations kept soils healthy, not anymore with continuous corn.
