Just subscribed to your channel and catching up on your great content like aux lights etc.Bought a 400x in July after 40years off bikes and loving it so much I'm going for the Rally Raid gold rimmed wheels
After owning a grom for a year it’s just been traded in for a sv650 but I already replaced the grom with a cb300r (250cc) and still just as fun The old saying is it more fun to to ride a small bike flat than a big bike to the speed limit
Ironically I was using my monkey less and less although it had 2K miles on it in 18 months. I bought my scrambler 400X in March and I’ve done nearly 3500 miles on it. Loved my monkey but it’s much better when you’re out with others that have them. They are obviously quite different bikes but love my 400X as I did the monkey. I will get another at some stage in the future but the 400X just allows a little more flexibility in range, speed and ability. Nice little Video and new sub. 😉👌🏼👍🏼😎
Yeah spot on that! The scrambler doesn't have the character of the monkey and the looks you get, but it is a lot more bike for the money. Power, looks, and ability! Thanks for the sub!
I get small bikes Sam, I have an RT and love it but also have a few small bikes. Getting out day to day the small bikes are ideal, on the little gnarly roads you never question going down them because you never it’s never going to get stuck, whilst the 268kg RT the last thing you want is coming to a dead end on a narrow gravelly muddy road.
Nah..the Monkey is king.. I can ride it straight into the kitchen for a cuppa and a mod upgrade..trying to get another mile an hour I feel like I'm going for a land speed record.. 🤔🤷😂😂
So you haven't heard about them cutting out while riding, Took a demonstrator out the other day got about a mile from the dealership and bingo engine cut as I approached a roundabout. Took it straight back and told them what happened as looked surprised that I'd returned so early. So won't be buying one of those.
There was an ECU update that fixed that issue I believe. A number of people mentioned that when they first came out but it took a few months for Triumph to sort the problem. All new bikes are prone to issues, I wouldn't write off an entire brand or bike based on one issue personally
Super :) Now you need to test ride a Duke 390 and compare the 3x 400s (this, the "Speed" and the Duke...). It would be interesting to know how you think they all compare! :D (I test rode the Duke this week, was very impressed and whilst it doesn't look like or really ride like the Monkey, it reminded me of it somehow (in a good way ;) :) :D )
I've ridden the 390 in the past albeit an older version and I remember it being quite characterful which was great! I'll have to try get on a newer model soon!
@@tommyhasson1082 I doubt it at 184kgs vs 139kgs, 39 bhp vs 43bhp AND, I don't like the Royal Enfield looks (subjective I know) - I think the Duke 390 looks fab! :) ( I also don't know but suspect that the RE will have a far "lazier" steering geometry also, and I like "fast" and "unstable", almost, which the Duke has in droves :) ). I need to try the Speed 400 as I might prefer that over the Duke.. who knows (but I suspect not ;) :D )
Nice review Sam they're a great step up from 125 and an A2 compliant bike, great value too! Did you refer to me as the Interceptor rider by any chance or was it someone else?
@@SamVBikes great, thanks mate! You've made my day getting a mention 😀👍 I still have it and the way the used bike market is looking I may well be keeping it. Used bikes don't seem to be selling unless you're prepared to almost give them away at the moment. If that's the case it will stay and I will put the adventure bike on hold for a while.
@michaelmclarney1994 haha not many get a mention! You're not wrong with the market.. it seems to be awful at the moment! May as well wait if it's not costing you too much to keep
@@SamVBikes cheers mate, I own all my bikes so it's just an insurance policy for them and tax which ones I'm riding at the time. The market is crazy, you can buy a new pre-registered Interceptor for just under £5k otr and that price will come down again in January if theres any left as Euro 5.5 has either kicked in, or about too!
It's madness isn't it! Not sure what to do with the bikes at the moment. Want to add to the garage but don't want to over spend when you can get things like that at at absolute bargain!
do you think Himmy 450 is a much more bike for the money? what are your thoughts on road riding himmy vs scram 400? i reckon 450 is much better off-road than scram 400. your thoughts?
I think they both have better uses. The Himi would be my choice if I was doing any form of green laning or off road as its designed for that kind of terrain. I have a suspicion that the Scram 400 might bottom out quite a bit off road. Plus I don't think the ground clearance is as good. For mainly road use with the odd gravel track, the scrambler would be a better bike I think
It's probably a nice bike, but I haven't ever rode one. I just don't think it's a fair comparison to the Monkey. There's only two ways to make a monkey faster, without breaking the bank, which will make it unreliable. The first and cheapest way is to lose weight, period. I'm not talking about the bike, I'm talking about the rider. The second way is to play with the gearing! This can really wake up the monkey. I have a couple of 4-speed monkeys and weight 300 lbs, and can ride all day long at 50 to 55 mph. I have an exhaust, intake, and tune...that's it. I still get over 100 mpg with my fat ass. Obviously, it's never going to keep up with a 400cc bike, but it wasn't meant to. I have a couple of Harleys that would smoke that triumph, but again, not a fair comparison.
The only reason I compared it to my monkey is because people commented specifically to say it was a better bike than the Monkey. A few times in the video, I mention that the monkey is only a 125 and I'd normally be comparing it to something like the Himalayan. I'm very aware of the Monkey's ability and what to do to get more speed out of it. This for me was about riding it to see if it was as fun or as engaging as the Monkey, which it isn't. It's a brilliant bike, and is faster with a nicer finish, but it's not a Monkey and won't be replacing a Monkey in my garage
@SamVBikes first off, thanks for responding, it means a lot, seriously. It's just that I own two (2) 2021 Honda Monkeys 🐒, they are blue and white. I see comparisons with monkeys that aren't even close to fair. The monkey will win every time and twice on Sunday!
I see these comments about monkey visibility a lot. Is the logic here that the actual bike is small? Because the seat height etc are the same as many standards or cruisers, so the rider himself should be just as visible on a monkey as say a speed 400? Great video btw - thanks!
You're right! I've never had any issues on the monkey! If anything pedestrians etc seem to see me more because their eyes are drawn to it being a small, funny bike!

Thank you!! Bet those wheels look amazing!
Mini bikes are great fun. But for longer rides especially on dual carriage ways a bigger bike is needed. BUY BOTH & BE EXTRA HAPPY.
Haha now that's something we can all get behind! Buying both 😂

You're right bud. Just such an easy thing to ride. So light and nimble that it makes for a really enjoyable ride
@@SamVBikes yeah, totally agree! If I had the space I would have kept it, but guess can’t keep them all 😅

Fantastic looking bikes, prefer the look of the Speed over. the Scrambler. Only heard good things about them. Great review Sam. 👍
Thank you mate! 🫶🏼

For ride with pillion which is best speed or scramler??
Yes 😄
I like those. First saw them at the bike show last year 😊
Nice little things aren't they?!
same.. and same.. :)
Defo. I test rode one... I couldn't stop grinning. Until I got on the dual carriageway. 😅.
😂😂 yeah any bike under 500cc is a pretty painful experience unless its like an R3
@@SamVBikes I might have seen 103mph on the "autobahn" on the Duke 390! ;) ;) :) :D :D

So when is your 400x being delivered, I’ve seen a few people have changed the front sprocket ⚙️ from a 14 to 15 or 16 to help with dual carriageways
Not a bad idea to swap sprockets although it depends if it has the power to hold that higher gear

Haha i wonder if it would fit without cutting the frame up too much

Forgot to say.... Monkey with CB300 engine would be the best of both worlds, FTW (better than most 400s at least).... no? ;) ;) ;) :D :D
Now that would be a great idea! Although I think the fuel tank would need to be made bigger as it would only do 50miles to a tank ha
Monkey all the way, just get a twin
You love twins
Yes way better than the monkey and it doesn’t look like a kids toy…much safer since people can actually see you
The kids toy element is part of the fun though! Never had anyone pull out on my on the monkey too which I'm surprised about
