    "Hey, it's Mark Agnesi here in the backroom at Norman's Rare Guitars"

    Guitar of the day is not guitar of the day without those two essential quotes.

    Videos of these Rickenbackers are so rare (especially vintage ones) that I can't help but ask: why he wouldn't plug it into an AC15 or AC30 (or that great sounding Custom Deluxe Reverb he used in the Gretsch 6130 video) and why didn't he give us a taste of the genuinely clean tone (especially on that bridge pickup)?

    I have owned a white with black trim Ric 360/12 since the 1990s. I run it clean through a "Jangle Box" pedal that recreates the trebly jangle Roger McGuinn got from his customized Ric. Absolutely love it. I have considered buying a 381 which is a bit deeper carved, but last I checked it went for over $5K and then COVID hit.

    Ricks sound so bloody good. Especially the old ones with the toasters. I had a newer model 330 with the high gains but I never quite bonded with it. It had a dull, wooden sound and I never got it to intonate properly. I'm still hoping to find the one that's right for me someday! That might require looking into the vintage market.

    If I could rewire it I would make the 3 way select each individual pickup and then dedicate a single switch to adding the middle pickup which would produce back / middle and front / middle out of phase sounds.

  • @ericbgordon1575
    @ericbgordon1575 Рік тому

    If I could afford this sucker or one like it, I would swap out one of those stereo output for a Piezo pickup and install Push Pull switching in the volume potentiometers to activate phase cancellation. I have occasionally had a dream that Brian May researched various aspects of this design while building his own Red Special.
    I'm also pretty sure that those knobs are capable of turning certain pickups on and off. There have to be ways of selecting the neck pickup alone, the two outside ones or bridge and middle.

  • @Jeffcatbuckeye
    @Jeffcatbuckeye Рік тому

    The stereo is described wrong. You just use ONE tip/ring/sleeve Y cable in the stereo Jack. In this specific guitar. One split routes the bridge pickup to one amp. The other split is the middle and neck pickup(they are hard wired together) to another amp to create TRUE stereo with totally different pickups simultaneously.

    Hmm Trogly said that 5th back nob was a secondary tone to turn the neck pickup down as it was a much hotter pickup then bridge to compensate for a more even sound wonder if the y changed that for the new models keeping the early ascetic but dropping the stereo jack and turning the nob blend into a tone pot instead for the ones made today

    Mark:
    Your stereo explanation is a bit off. The Rick O Sound jack is meant to be used with the Rick O Sound Kit. One cable would go from the Rick O Send output jack on the guitar/bass, into the input of the Rick O Sound Kit. There is a Treble output and a bass output; hence; the "stereo" effect.
    The so-called Hi Gain pickups might have be higher gain compared to Toaster Tops but they're nowheres close to a PAF in a Les Paul.

    When playing stereo you plug one stereo cord into the Ric-O-Sound jack, nothing in the mono, plug that into a Ric-O-Sound box which split up the two pickups into two different amps. Not sure how a triple pickup guitar would split.
