I know what you mean. My father died in an accident last year. I often put off going to see him, too wrapped up in my own life dominated by working 70 plus hours a week. I did not see him for a long time due to Covid too. The last time I saw him was February 2020 and I had no idea I would never speak to him again as the door closed and I walked away for the last time. Truth to be told, he was always distant and I never felt I knew him but he was the only father I had ( obviously). If I could turn back time, I would reach out and visit more often. Shows you how powerful this song is: my grandfather used to tell us about his early days in West Africa when he was part of a street gang called Zulashta. They were having a violent turf war with a gang called Goronzo who had at least twice the amount of members. On the night of their big street confrontation they assembled in front of a butcher’s shop. The whole street took cover but the butcher went on with his work as if he knew he was secure. This was playing very loudly on his radio and before the gangs would even take one step forward, they noticed the song and decided to call a truce. He joined the church as an ordained priest a few months later. Just goes to show you the power of the lyrics. My grandfather died in 93 but I’ll always remember him through this song.

Paul Reynolds and the Edge have a similar sound with all the echo, reverb and delay. Such a modern and haunting sound. I love and miss this so much. I need to start learning some of this type of stuff myself. I was a total Metal Head when these guys were popular and still loved them. I guess their music spoke to me.

As a Kiwi born in 1967 we were so far away from the other side of the World all we ever got on Radio or TV was mainstream hits music. UA-cam opened up an entire realm of music and Bands we never saw or heard about. Flock of Seagulls is a great example because '' I Ran'' was all we heard on radio play.
My teenage years were interesting , there was some great times , but then not so great but this music and groups that first started up '81-'83 the sound and lyrics were so awesome and has stayed with us I always go back and listen when feeling nostalgic ! I was 19 in 1982 and the music carried right through my 20's and it's magical.

I was born in 71 so was largely unaware in the very early 80's. I think they kicked in for me around '84. My GF thinks I'm crazy because I only listen to 80's and some other random bands. Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Killers and some random early 90's rave music. I would go back in a heartbeat. Maybe everyone says all of this about "their decade"
They were masters of the creation of simple, memorable melancholic pop tunes. This is what the Synthwave movement is trying to evoke (largely successfully) through the concept of imagined memory and nostalgia. I don't normally overthink or conceptualize retro genres and what journalists say about them but I think many of the Synthwave artists/mixes have nailed that feeling. This track is the real thing of course!
It's very nice when you drive your car (in my case a truck) around the downtown of your city with this kind of music at full volume and people look at you with a smile, realizing that you're only 32, but like good music. Not like other guys driving "tunned" cars with reggaetton at full volume.
Great album.. it really was I was in Aberdeen Scotland for the summer of 84’ when this record came out picked it up at Boots the chemist Then went for curry chips!

@@Cherokeelion It's a shame Paul Reynolds couldn't expand on his guitar ability and his ear for music. I read he was pretty chewed up by the industry. He was pretty young in the 80s.

Don't ever give your heart to a stranger
Don't ever think that you can go on
You'll put your heart in mortal danger
Turn around and love is gone
The more you live the more you love
Or so they say
The more you love the more you go away
The more you live the more you love
Or so they say
The more you love the more you go away
The more you live the more you love
Or so they say
The more you love the more you go away
The lyrics are incredibly prophetic!!!
This lyrics are good words to live by.

Don't ever think that you can hold on
Not
Don't ever think that you can go on
The lyrics of somebody who could never get out of "the friend zone". Holy shit I can relate

You never give your heart to a stranger.
Or tell your secrets to a friend.
You'll put your heart in mortal danger.
They all desert you in the end.
The more you live the more you love.
Or so they say: The more you love the more you go away.
They say that nothing last forever.
And even true love turns to pain.
Don't trust your feelings to a stranger.
Don't want to ever do this again.
The more you live the more you love.
Or so they say: The more you love the more you go away...(2×)
Don't ever give your heart to a stranger.
Don't ever think that you can hold on.
You'll put your heart in mortal danger.
You turn around and love has gone.
The more you live the more you love.
Or so they say: The more you love the more you go away...(3×)
The end!!!
Similar here was and still consider myself a punk but always had a soft spot for this band just great melodies and lyrics I guess
Yeah I had a soft spot for these guys too
I was born 75 but spent my childhood in the 80’s the best decade and the best time of my life. You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…
Paul was so underrated, listening to him again after all these years I’ve come to appreciate how good he was. Take me back to the 80’s !
My favorite A Flock of Seagulls song................. greetings of Perú..
I was 20 when this song came out and lived my best years in the 80,s with all the best of new wave. I was so blessed with great times ,great friends, and great music.
I know what you mean. Same here.
I can totally relate to what you are saying...same here I was 19yr old..and yes blessed with great times, friends and great music and still am...love from Ireland Chris!!!
Same here I was 22 yrs Jaming to this with friends in Houston tx.... greatest times man.

That wave crashing at the end is perfect
As a Kiwi born in 1967 we were so far away from the other side of the World all we ever got on Radio or TV was mainstream hits music. UA-cam opened up an entire realm of music and Bands we never saw or heard about. Flock of Seagulls is a great example because '' I Ran'' was all we heard on radio play.
AMEN
Total....lo mejor de nuestra época

Maravillosa e insuperable música.
My teenage years weren't the greatest. But one great thing about being a teenager in the 80's was the music...
same, those years sucked for me, except for the timeless music
My teenage years were interesting , there was some great times , but then not so great but this music and groups that first started up '81-'83 the sound and lyrics were so awesome and has stayed with us I always go back and listen when feeling nostalgic ! I was 19 in 1982 and the music carried right through my 20's and it's magical.
Well said 👍💪
Charlotte Priest if only I could go back in time to my teen years in the 80's. the world was full of hope. the only thing I look forward to now is retirement from the society enforced slavery that is work 😑
Hey, I'm an 80s teenager.
Blink and you are 56 years old... Once you get out of high school, hold on tight!
I loved "I Ran" when I was a kid. Why did it take me almost 40 years to realize how good their other songs were?
I would say this is their best song.

When this song came out Frank & Paul did a record signing session that I went to at the Mark Jones record shop on Smithdown Road. (Mark Jones was a Liverpool radio DJ)
My dad died 1984 so sad he was young but i love this song. Cried many times.Have thar secret smile , and ne a mystery.Stay safe everyone life is so presious.

Im 52 the best time it was in the 80s 😊
This may be the Gullsiest song in their catalog. It has every one of their signature sounds - space, future, dream, ballad, guitar, technology, love.
I agree. And yet the only synths in this track are the drums and a lead behind the guitar solo. I always think of them as a synth band but they go really light on them here.
Im very grateful that i was born in the 60's because music from 70's, 80's, is priceless today's teenagers did not recognize them.
I was born in 2002 but i wish i was born in the 80's. The music is just the best
It was great, endless top music coming out like this every week.
I was born in the mid-90s & I appeciate 80s music.
I went in this time and was the best.
You had to be born in the 70's to really appreciate the sound of the 80's 🙂
You meant early 70's if you'd enjoy 80's
I used to only like “I Ran”, but after hearing this song, you can run, nightmare, and others. You truly appreciate them.
Flock of Seagulls - they should have had a much bigger impact on the music scene. Absolutely love this and Space Age Lovesong!!
My 14 yr old self met my 30 yr old self when I visited Giant’s Causeway in ‘99. I had my walkman on with the Best of Flock of Seagulls while walking around the incredibly beautiful area! 😍
Music is my time machine.
I can really smell the sea when I hear this song. Glory 80s.
Love this video. i'm a 90's baby but i love this song and band.

One of the best songs from the 80'S
It is my favourite song by
A Flock of Seagulls.
The more I live the more I wonna go back in the 80's.

Exactly...
The best music ever!!!

This was the 80’s all about, the best in everything
Absolutely love this song.
80's: Best decade for music by far.
Pure talent, their songs never get old, bravo!!
Paul Reynolds what a great lead guitarist of the 80s top man
Exactly and I believe he was a only a teenager. Shear guitar genius.
Underrated.

Excelentes.
His Monster's Voice xD head over my channel to check out the AFOS Ascension.
True 👍🏼
Hi I recommend the song and video 'Where I Come From' by Robert Nix
Class never again will we hear music like this.2023 hello from Ireland
It's very nice when you drive your car (in my case a truck) around the downtown of your city with this kind of music at full volume and people look at you with a smile, realizing that you're only 32, but like good music. Not like other guys driving "tunned" cars with reggaetton at full volume.
Same with my bike and phone holder my friend! 😂 💪
Bring the 80s back!!!
it is back when it comes too music
Great album.. it really was I was in Aberdeen Scotland for the summer of 84’ when this record came out picked it up at Boots the chemist Then went for curry chips!
Wonderful 80's 💗💗💗 memories keeps flowing back.....
I love the subtle and simplistic elegance of the guitar work. I didn't really appreciate this stuff in the 80s. Glad it turned out to be worth rediscovering.
Hi I recommend a new 80's style song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
The guitar interplay is fantastic isnt it
@@Cherokeelion It's a shame Paul Reynolds couldn't expand on his guitar ability and his ear for music. I read he was pretty chewed up by the industry. He was pretty young in the 80s.
I agree wholeheartedly to thatv
Tanta perfección en una sola canción.
