When i think about what i love about One Piece i always think of Shichibukai, Yonko, Admirals, Laugh Tale, the Lost Century etc... but now that i'm rereading OP it's breathtaking how perfectly the East Blue Saga encapsulates everything that the series is about. Shanks teaching Luffy to only fight seriously when it's necessary, Zoro convincing Kuina not to accept fate and chase her dream only to have fate immediately teach him that same lesson, Usopp's trauma from his mother's death making him the boy who cried wolf, Zeff's sacrifice to keep Sanji and his dream alive and Nami desperately trying to carry all the weight of the world on her shoulders to protect the ones she loves... The people they encounter who are cowards and courageous, cruel and carring, corrupt and upstanding, ignorant and considerate... There is a strong focus on standing up against injustice and cruelty as well as on the importance of dreams. Not just on chasing your own dreams but also on lifting up the weak and the defeated into a position where they can determine their own path. It's also where the balance between serious and humorous moments is absolutely perfect. It deals with extremely heavy narratives but also manages to be hilarious the next moment. I can't believe how many people disregard East Blue as merely the prologue to One Piece. It's the essence and the foundation of the entire series.
This is one of my favorite One Piece videos ever. I have come back to watch it 3 times now over the past couple years since slowly working my way through the series. Once when I was just starting OP, once when I was about halfway through, and now being just a few chapters away from being caught up. What an amazing journey, what an amazing video.
I'd enjoy a retrospective journey review of the series from you whenever you'd get around to it. I feel like your words would put a much welcome fresh spin from everyone else currently talking about it other than Mark. This was sucha passionate video. I nearly shed a tear.
Yes! The East Blue saga is so awesome I am dumbfounded when I hear someone say you have to “get thru” the first few arcs. I mean, come on! The first few arcs are what got me hooked. I’m glad I’m not alone in this outlook. Thanks for bringing it to light.
First of all, excellent video (you got my sub). Though I'm not entirely sure what you meant when referring to Oden's backstory at 15:00. Whilst Whole Cake Island is definitely my favourite post-time skip arc, Oden's backstory are easily my favourite backstory (and sub arc) in the series and hasn't been topped since (imo). It's been a while and its difficult to sum up my thoughts without re reading but there was something magical about this character finally breaking free of his tiny island and seeing the world.
That song We are at the end is so fucking nostalgic and kinda gave me goosebumps. I started off with the dub and at the time both manga and anime were on Dressrosa arc. Still the best thing I've ever read and watched. Still to this day and I thank my friend for pushing me into watching it.
Amazing video, I was just thinking about the Chou Chou moment after re watching it today and I needed to see if someone else felt the same as I did about the beginning of the world's greatest adventure.
Ah.... The East Blue Arc... Now that is a hell of a fine wine for the One Piece cellar of stories, characters, and plot points. Old school One Piece Aged amazingly. Sanji's mentor giving him all the food to survive, Zoro losing his best childhood friend to a disease, Usoop learning to be brave, And Nami carrying the lives of her village on her back... Great stuff. Glad you and 1C2 are back at making some great works! It is unfortunate to hear your plans got pushed back because of the world events. Hope things pan out. Stay safe everyone!
Very well made video man, the quality of your videos is just amazing considering the size of this channel. The content of this channel is much better than most of the channels that are much popular than yours. Hope you make more content since I am sure it would blow up soon enough.
I love one piece, but I do have to say that Naruto had the best start out of the big 3. Also if you've never checked this series out, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Kingdom, my favourite manga. Just spreading the word.
Yep. Bleach had some tense moments early on and one piece was mostly silly in the beginning but naruto definitely had the strongest begining. Rogue ninja. Tailed beasts. A cruel world surrounded by war. A boy with the ambition who will help change the world but first he has to change himself.
I don't like the implication here that Luffy has apparently been flanderized. If you think that, I doubt you've actually paid attention to the guy. He has always been incredibly straightforward, and more effective at making stuff up on the fly. The trust he has in his crew still shines so brightly, and his bullheaded fighting style and life philosophy is, for me, a big draw with the character; there was never some "underlying intelligence", and instead there being the empathy and fighting smarts he's possessed since East Blue. Luffy's still the same old Luffy, but his trust in his crew and friends has seen a lot of growth over the years.
I disagree I would argue, from an emotional, thematic and narrative perspective I would argue that Post Timeskip is better than Pre Timeskip, I love pre Timeskip but post timeskip so far has been better in every way you can fairly compare. i.e what's better little garden or punk hazard, dressrosa or drum island, Zou or Jaya, WCI or Water 7 these are all set up arcs and I would argue in general the post time skip arcs are better.
@@-tom-8720 Arlong Park, Alabasta, Water7/Ennies Lobby, Sabaody to Marineford. These had better emotional payoff than any of the post timeskip arc. Theme wise, as it focused more on marines, pirates and nature of justice, freedom, loss, redemption, corruption of the highest order etc., I would say thematically it's better than any post timeskip arcs, where most of it has just been about beating up the bad guys.
always a pleasure working with you my dood. thanks for the opportunity!

Why did you use the English version at the end?
It slaps.
Tell me about it. Pre time skip one piece overshines post time skip in every way
