Fun little fact, The subway station "Darlington" is a joke/reference to Toronto's strange love of naming streets that end in "Ton". (Eglinton, Ossington, Arlington, Islington, Symmington, Kingston, etc.). The subway station itself is based off Ossington Station in Toronto.
Tbf, Hollow knight is a 20$-25$ game, this is a 10$ game imo. People will gladly pay for a walking sim like this if they're the type to enjoy this experience.
Jazzpunk's humor is really too on the nose for most people to get. I remember first seeing this when Vinesauce streamed it, and while I get jokes about T4 viruses, hacking phones with a cereal whistle, and dank wrestling promos; its well out of the reach of a general audience. Its stylistically cool but substantially empty. I liked it, but its obvious how people could hate it, or think its not for them. This category of "walking simulators" is a very shallow genre, and outside of this and Book of Distance, Tacoma and Stories Untold, its the same repeated tropes told blandly. It all blends together as a beige mix of "Fisher Price's My First Unity Project" and "desperately trying to tell a traditional story in an interactive form." If there's a genre that needs to stop, its this one. There's also a DLC for this but its really more of the same. Its not worth it.
