    Hi Steve, I was taught this in school way back in the seventies when they taught me structured programming, we even had the concept of measurements to estimate development times. We had no graphic software support then of course. Everything old is new again.
    Great video - keep 'em coming.

    FreeMind for windows is maybe not the best looking available, but I found it to be really powerful.
    My colleague once told me that a consulting firm in India he used to work for would use mind maps as part of their software build plan. The innermost nodes represented all the major deliverables of the project, and then the child nodes represented a more and more granular "to-do" list of what was needed to complete that deliverable... that branch of the tree.
    So the idea was that you work from the outside in....you come in every day and just look at the outermost nodes that are not complete, and that's your next step.

  • @kingsfischer
    @kingsfischer 7 років тому +3

    Nice clear presentation--thank you. The thing that dimmed my initial enthusiasm for MindMup is that, unless I'm overlooking something, there isn't a way to alter the hierarchy ex post facto, e.g. change a sibling to a parent, move a child onto a different parent, etc. It would be nice if the Connect tool had options like "connect as parent" "connect as child" etc.

    • @avnipandyapowerobjects2645
      @avnipandyapowerobjects2645 6 років тому +1

      This is absolutely possible. A node can be dragged and dropped anywhere to change the position in the hierarchy. Also, you can use Edit > Disconnect node to make a node into a totally separate root node and then build concept diagram type connections with labelled lines. Drag and drop the root node back onto a hierarchical node and it will turn back into a parent or child.

    Hi there. loved your vid. just got freemind, for my very first mind map i ever made. using to outline my first book and just get down in an organised way all the bits and pieces of ideas, chapters etc. Like this one. Seems simpler, but seems to spread out more. i can compact the branches down if i need to. Can ou do it with this one?
    Also wondering how you made your vid. You seem to be facing and using your computer, so are you also standing infront of a white board with a projector linked to computer projecting onto the white board. Thought it was a clever idea, i have never thought of. Thanks have subscribed, love your style.

    Mindmapping is taught in the L.A. public schools and in schools in the U.K. - two places where I have been a teacher. It is usually taught on paper. I've never seen it taught using a digital service/app. This would be a good tool for a classroom with computers in it.

      @@visualbrain5810 My company has been using the free versions of xmind for YEARS and have never seen any reason to upgrade to the paid version. It all depends on what you need the tool to do. For our purposes the free tool has more than enough features for us to accomplish our tasks. Maybe for your unique use case you need different features that are paid for with that tool. Just because something isn't the right tool for YOU, that does not mean it's not the right tool for someone else.
