    Great video! For some reason no matter how many videos I watched on mind mapping I still wasn't getting the idea until I watched yours. Now I can't stop making them! Thanks for the great explanations and examples!

    I was introduced to this type of note taking many years ago. I don't always use it- but do when I want to capture the ideas and not necessarily the details of what is being talked about. It's also great for working thru the pros and cons to make a decision or evaluate multiple options. Great video- now I have something to show others so when they look at my notes and say I'm weird. LOL

    Great, I saw one of our senior leaders doing this during a workshop and then looked about my frantically scribbled notes. I thought, 'I've got to learn that', and know I have! Many thanks.

    I learned more about physics in 10 minutes with this method than in the 10 months prior, awesome stuff

    I enjoyed this, I've been a big fan of mind-mapping. You've just shown me a simple way to create clean maps on my Ipad.

    I study literature, which is a subject where brainstorming and connections are very important. So mind-mapping really helps. I have been encouraging students to use mind mapping when brianstorming essays, it helps focus and organize their thoughts before puttig them down on paper in essay format. Love your videos!

      Yes! I wish I had started using mind maps earlier - they might be my favorite visual thinking tool.

    Once again, great video. It had been ages since I've attempted mind mapping, and sometimes I just need to be reminded of its simplicity once I start to actually use it. Probably the more challenging thing, asides from actually making this part of my regular note-taking schema (at least I can digitally store them) is that of colors and keeping them straight during real-time note taking. I'm definitely going to watch this video again; many thanks!

    • @verbaltovisual
      @verbaltovisual  7 років тому +2

      Yeah I too find that I often just need a reminder that a thing or an idea exists to start putting it into practice again. Regarding color, I'm becoming a fan of a three-color approach: black for imagery, strong color for words, and then a lighter helper color for accenting. Let me know how you end up using color for your real-time note taking!

    In the 1970s Tony Buzan did a series on BBC called "Use Your Head" and though I was too young to watch it - before I went to University I read his book with the same name and it showed mind mapping (I think he even holds mind map as a trademark in some contexts) - so my entire first three years of my degree in Chemistry (specialising in Quantum Chemistry) was done in mind maps. The last year - like a Masters research year was mostly computer programming and finding mistakes in published papers - not my greatest achievement.

    My problem with mind mapping is layout... I map out my sub topics and add details+examples to each sub topic before I move to the other sub, resulting in me running out of enough space... and then I'll have to remake the map again... makes me loose focus and waste a lot of time TT

    Hi, I don't see the use for mindmapping on paper. IMHO you loose the big advantage of re-arranging the nodes after brainstorming, right?

    • @joeandlizellis
      @joeandlizellis 6 років тому

      Totally disagree! The biggest part of mind mapping is to just get all the ideas out so you can visually see connections. From there, you have all kinds of potential. One of my favorite styles is to put all of your "Ideas" on post-its and then those can be easily rearranged. I do it all the time.

    maybe you can do a video on the difference between mind mind maps and concept maps...I recently finished a Udemy course on Udemy about mind mappings by Harry Mapp and I got the impression that they are different...I don't know if that is a matter of opinion or fact, but I'd like to know what you think as you seem to be the authority on visual note taking on youtube (there is no one else offering decent information, but you)

      Great idea! I'm curious to explore the difference myself - my guess is they're mostly similar, just developed by different folks at different times.

      I like that he doesn’t talk so fast as some do. He says words clearly and I have time to process what he says.
