Saw him in 77 and again in 90.Was dragged to the 77 show (wasn't all that thrilled about going) and had my shit completely blown away. Not only was the performance killer but the sound was so crystal clean and clear that the unbelievable volume level didn't even hurt.Same with the 90 show and I was even sitting right in front of a stack.I'll never forget either one-highly recommend seeing this..
I saw him all those years ago too. I smelled that sweet smell too. I was about 17. Have been a big fan ever since. He changed my musical taste too. Jazz, and beyond.
Gino is so great, and that drummer! He always has such great people playing with him. And he always looks like he can't believe he gets to have so much fun. Nice one, thanks for this!
Absolutely amazing. Back in Britain, where I used to live, you could forget all that heartthrob shit about Gino. He was looked at as a musician's musician, and the people I knew in bands, especially jazzy ones, all dug him, and in fact, introduced me to him. I still play my vinyl copy of this. Yecannaewhackhim!
Gino is great and always will be. I do notice he doesn't sing with the enormous vocal gymnastics he once did in the 70's and early 80's. But his singing is still great and he's still THE MAN! GO GINO!!!!
Being a drummer myself, I've enjoyed every drummer that Gino selected for his records and his tours. I've heard as a drummer himself he was something of a taskmaster. But I think he got the performance he wanted from each one of them.
Oh, thanks a lot! Kind words, indeed. You're more than welcome to have the video on your MySpace page, of course! =) I hadn't planned on doing any more Gino stuff for the time being, but now that you asked I might take another look at it. After all, I really love the music so very much! We'll see how it turns out, it'll probably be something from Brother to Brother, Nightwalker or Black Cars in that case. =)
I took the LSD and aura-aurally experienced the composition:A PAUPER IN PARADISE by Gino Vannelli...FANTASTIC...An hour later I was being chased down by Salvador Dali's sinister undulating floating dirty sheet...I got away:)
magichypnochic: Thanks so much for the info. I thought it might be a guitarist I played in a band with 30 yrs. ago - in fact if you saw this guy (and had heard his talent back then), you'd do a double take, too. Thanks again.
He kinda got the rotten end of the stick in the states. The media wrote him off as a pretty boy, flavor of the day. Not me. Always been a big fan. I turn people on to him now. They say, "Who is that?" I say Gino Vannelli. He rocks!
Great arrangement of that classic Vannelli song. The bass is definitely playing the synth part , with effect of some sort . I think octaver for starters ,because of were on the neck he is playing to achieve the proper tone , when using this effect. The bassist has a large pedal board in front of him, very cool.
I hear that moog ..and brass synth..was it pre-recorded??? what happened to gino..from the Forum(mtl )..to this called second cup..or whatever, looks like a type of bar.....
Nice move to the Sub Dominant for the solos. Great Kicks. Next to the studio mix in Portland, the guys are a bit "On It" . Live Energy, or lots of morning "rockstar" or other . . . Joe is gone, and so is the musical influence. However, I dig the musical approach as much to the Re Man's or maybe at times even MORE ( with the exception of Reinhardt's work on " I Just Wanna Stop" ) Gino missed it their. Too Hard for the tune. Sorry my German Bud.
Um evidently you dont understand the meaning of "yall betta shed"..You must not be ethnic or churchy are ya? This phrase is saying that they are really playing well,is that better for ya there lil buddy.(smile)
Excellent video. The drummer has always blown me away.

I saw him all those years ago too. I smelled that sweet smell too. I was about 17. Have been a big fan ever since. He changed my musical taste too. Jazz, and beyond.

Great live performance.
Gino you are amazing! There is no other entertainer like you! I love this song!
One of my all time 'old' MUSIC heroes!
Wow. Musicianship and artistry. Beautiful
35 years ago today (2/15/75), Gino became the 1st Caucasian artist in history to appear on "Soul Train" and perform "People Gotta Move"
I have been a fan since I first heard Gino about 35 years ago. Huge talent. Thanks for posting this.
Cooks! Best version I think.

Same over here in the Netherlands.

I guess some judge people by either looks or talent. But when you see GIno it is the most beautiful balance of both.
He's da bomb!

Great song great band great singer/composer.And Canadian .!Great bass sound .Great Moog replication !.How I wonder?.

That drummer is Reinhardt Melz of Portland Oregon, as is the bassist Sandin Wilson. Both are fantastic musicians--but anyone can see that.
gino is incredible !
makes me proud to be canadian.
HUGE !!!
Great. Gino is one of a kind.
wicked keyboard riff on this song......

Drum Wizard and Master of the Odd meter - Reinhardt Wolfgang Melz. A drummer worth to remember!
Being a drummer myself, I've enjoyed every drummer that Gino selected for his records and his tours. I've heard as a drummer himself he was something of a taskmaster. But I think he got the performance he wanted from each one of them.

Go GINO!!!

Grandissimoooooo!!!!!
Mastermind....
I surely like and enjoy Reinhardt's take and interpretation (seen him several times with Gino), but I still miss Enzo.
Sandin!!! Funky bass
Thanks for uploading this! Awesome song in a brilliant live version I hadn't heard. Can't ask for much more than that. =)
Oh yea!!! Dont get any better than this!!!!
I gotta move !!! Nice musica
Argee with you: Ultra cool!!
Someone else made that exact same comment to me about the percussion some years ago...
Allen Hinds on guitar!
this guy has some serious tone and good hands...check him out!
They are obviously playing on sequencer's click, as usual for Gino's bands since seventies!
Jeez. my jaw would hit the floor if they played shit like this on english breakfeast TV.
magichypnochic: Thanks so much for the info. I thought it might be a guitarist I played in a band with 30 yrs. ago - in fact if you saw this guy (and had heard his talent back then), you'd do a double take, too. Thanks again.
Ya just wanna get down and boogie dont ya !!!
Lots of stuff going here! Nice arrangement!
The guitar @ 2:29 started to modulate too early!
But @ 7am its gotta be tough just to play

dnetsurfr, Mr Vannelli is an idol to me. Please give us the year and context of this post. Thank you for advance.
I hear that moog ..and brass synth..was it pre-recorded???
what happened to gino..from the Forum(mtl )..to this called second cup..or whatever, looks like a type of bar.....
Hit #22 in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in Canada? God bless!
il l,as tu l,affaire lui!
The bass player is playing. He just has a Moog-like patch he's using either through his foot switches or an off stage synth module.
Yep... that's it......
Does anyone know the name of this guitarist? If so, if you could post it to me, I'd be ever so grateful. Thanks.

Graham Lear
thats not the bass you are hearing but the
keyboard.
Yall betta shed...
OK, Somebody try to tell me that this clip doesn't kick major a--! Go ahead!

Who is the guitar player at 1:03?

ON dirait JIMMY PALLAGROSI à la batterie ? Est ce lui ?

Great. And even with that horrible backdrop. Looks worse than my basement at 17.
