Being a railfan, I love my train gets late or delayed just because I can enjoy some more journey moments in my train. But from the passengers point of view, these kinds of trains are a headache and I felt so bad inspite of being a railfan when you missed your connecting train at ET. Now I understand the logic behind so many vacant seats in special trains that people actually don't trust the punctuality of such special trains.
Indian railways has changed over time .Now you cannot imagine a journey without considering a delay of atleast 4 hours. There is a train called humsuffer express which is Pune santragachi humsuffer whic is always delayed by atleast 12 hours. Once I travelled in it and it was delayed by 22 hours. This is not the experiance we demand after paying extra for a humsuffer and booking tickets 3 months in advance
I haven't boarded any special trains in my life but I can share the experience of my brother who boarded Puri-Hwh special express. They had the worst journey. The train was running weekly twice (Friday and Monday). Firstly the train arrived 3.5 hrs delayed, secondly the train was full of cockroaches, lizards and rats and they disturbed the passengers the entire night. As per cleanliness the train was horrible and the speed throughout the journey was not good. Normally everyday many trains run between Howrah/Sealdah/Santragachi and Puri and vice versa on their respective timings and since the special was introduced on Mondays and Fridays, its timing clashed with other trains and as a result it was forced to stop at multiple signals, 3rd lines to make other trains pass it as a result it was delayed by 3.5 hrs. If I could remember, the year was 2014 and that time most of the trains ran with old ICF Blue coaches. My brother had a horrible experience at that train and he decided never to board any special trains in future.
Sandeep sir. Mai 4 saal pahle Kacheguda (Hyderabad) se nagpur jaa raha tha in Kacheguda - Prayagraj special. Jo ki 10 ghanta reschedule ho gayi thi aur uske upar 4 ghanta late ho gayi. Usme bhi WAG - 9 locomotive laga tha aur plus icf rakes hone ke karan 90 km/h ke speed se upar nahi jaa rahi thi aur pure journey mai 5-6 traino ne woh train ko overtake kiya tha 😂.
Another experience of mine when I was traveling by a special train last year, first it got rescheduled by 4 hours and then it got delayed in its way by 8 hours. I have to leave this train mid way in BSBS and take an auto for DDU to board another train. Luckily 22308 was running late therefore I boarded it.Irony was that it's name was gati Shakti

In an era where the quality of Roadways is increasing in the country, it's pathetic to see Railways is doing nothing to increase the efficiency and quality of trains also reducing General and sleeper coaches causing inconvenience to all. If this continues people will start preferring roads than trains like USA😢
I was traveling DDU to Bangalore and the train was DNR SMVB Special . It arrived ddu 10 min before but we reached Bangalore by 9hours delayed 😂. But I enjoyed a lot

I would like to share my experience about my journey in duronto express 12261 from cst to hwh. Thinking its a premium train would reach on time, srrvice would be good. But to my bad luck the train was delayed by 5 hr from source and hence reached destination by 9hrs. Missed my connecting train. Since then I dont trust train in terms of punctuality.

The term special trains are actually,COMPULSARILY LATE RUNNING SPECIAL TRAINS,to cut short, the name is special trains only.These trains run on different rail route as against the regular routes.Many things happen with such trains.Durung the course of the journey the engine changes ends atleast two to three times and before reaching a big Junction it is stopped for two to three hours to pass atleast 5 to 6 trains.Atleast these trains are safer to travel because of late running.The main principle being BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.You spent more money during this journey by spending on tea coffee ,Bisleri water and other snacks thereby giving a good business to the vendors .
Safety wise LHB coaches are good. But it makes an irritating sound :khad khad khad khad' while running. Here are the negative points of LHB. 3 tier upper berth - head space is less. Toilet size smaller than ICF 3 tier - ICF has 64 berths while LHB has 72 (one compartment extra)

Never ever board a SPECIAL train. These are the worst train in Indian Railways. I had same experience in one of the train from UP to Delhi. My train started late by 8 hours and the entire journey got delayed by 12 hours. WORST experience of my life !!

Railways and their punctuality, last time I missed my train (duronto) when I was just 2 kms away from DDU as my connecting train which was a local one got delayed by 45 mins.
Special trains have always been given a low priority on IR network for decades. Regular trains (even stopping passenger trains) are given more priority than special trains. These trains usually serve as extra options during a holiday rush. I remember a journey I took in 2009 onboard a ' Rajdhani special ' from Bandra Terminus to Delhi Safdarjung and the train was hours late. Most other trains on the route were running mostly on time, except my special train and a few slow express trains. I even remember that my special was hauled by a red - cream coloured WAM4 locomotive from Vadodara Junction onwards. From Bandra Terminus to Vadodara Junction, the train was hauled by a WCAM1 locomotive.
because they don't have a permanent schedule in IR. They are 'extras' that railways usually try to squeeze in wherever there is a window available between two trains.
Now railway is focusing on Vande Bharat express. All other trains are been halted for long hours especially the passenger trains just for the Vande Bharat to pass.
I took anvt-lko AC special due to urgent travel as it was summer time and no ticket available in any other train. It departed at 22:50, right time from Anvt but was looped at sahibabad outer to pass all express trains going towards gazibad from new delhi. It reached gaziabad 1.5 hours late. Reached moradabad by 5Am. Bareilly by 8 Am. It ultimately reached lko around 12pm. Around 4 hours late. Fortunately my connecting train was at 4pm. So it was fine. But really these special and ac special trains are worst. Even in AC special local unreserved/mst passengers travel which us very annoying.
I was travelling in 07047 Dbrg sc spl which was late by 21 hours and their was no water the date which it has to arrive was 16 December at 4 pm But it arrived at 17 December at 1:30 pm

Agreed. We keep introducing 'high speed' trains like Vande Bharat that is certified for 160kmph, but in reality their average speed in mere 80kmph because the track on which they run is not certified for that kind of speed! It would make sense to first upgrade tracks for high speed and then introduce new trains. Also Vande Bharat doesn't represent even 1% of IR, but hogs all the limelight. Govt. should really focus on improving service on non-premium trains that forms the backbone of passenger railways in India.

Railways and their punctuality, last time I missed my train (duronto) when I was just 2 kms away from DDU as my connecting train which was a local one got delayed by 45 mins.
Why are these trains getting late? Is it because of more traffic or priority given to Vande bharat and premium trains?
Special trains have always been given a low priority on IR network for decades. Regular trains (even stopping passenger trains) are given more priority than special trains. These trains usually serve as extra options during a holiday rush.
I remember a journey I took in 2009 onboard a ' Rajdhani special ' from Bandra Terminus to Delhi Safdarjung and the train was hours late. Most other trains on the route were running mostly on time, except my special train and a few slow express trains. I even remember that my special was hauled by a red - cream coloured WAM4 locomotive from Vadodara Junction onwards. From Bandra Terminus to Vadodara Junction, the train was hauled by a WCAM1 locomotive.
because they don't have a permanent schedule in IR. They are 'extras' that railways usually try to squeeze in wherever there is a window available between two trains.

Now railway is focusing on Vande Bharat express. All other trains are been halted for long hours especially the passenger trains just for the Vande Bharat to pass.

I took anvt-lko AC special due to urgent travel as it was summer time and no ticket available in any other train. It departed at 22:50, right time from Anvt but was looped at sahibabad outer to pass all express trains going towards gazibad from new delhi. It reached gaziabad 1.5 hours late. Reached moradabad by 5Am. Bareilly by 8 Am. It ultimately reached lko around 12pm. Around 4 hours late. Fortunately my connecting train was at 4pm. So it was fine. But really these special and ac special trains are worst. Even in AC special local unreserved/mst passengers travel which us very annoying.

I was travelling in 07047 Dbrg sc spl which was late by 21 hours and their was no water the date which it has to arrive was 16 December at 4 pm But it arrived at 17 December at 1:30 pm

Tracks are over saturated atleast triple line in and four lines are needed now in every route to run trains on time and CLW and DLW are just focusing on Wag 9 production instead of wap 7 due to which many trains are running with Slow AF wag 9 🤮

Agreed. We keep introducing 'high speed' trains like Vande Bharat that is certified for 160kmph, but in reality their average speed in mere 80kmph because the track on which they run is not certified for that kind of speed! It would make sense to first upgrade tracks for high speed and then introduce new trains.
Also Vande Bharat doesn't represent even 1% of IR, but hogs all the limelight. Govt. should really focus on improving service on non-premium trains that forms the backbone of passenger railways in India.
