- These are 5 TIPS and TRICKS that I believe that would help out beginners to Monster Hunter World Iceborne. I also talk about some skills that I would recommend using with the GREATSWORD.
I will be missing out a lot of other information that might be important for using the GREATSWORD but I wanted to keep the video as short as possible.

If you don't use evade extender and the monster is sleeping if you guard next to the head and do a roll backwards you are in perfect distance for the wake-up hit
I dunno why but it doesn't work for me. I always have to take a microstep forward
Correct way would be this
Place on head -> Block in Monsters Face -> Kick 1x backwards -> Roll 1x -> Block -> Backwards Kick
Ready for charging
My method is: guard on head -> roll back -> charge -> tackle -> true charge

I just learn the wake up animation of the monster and position myself so that the true charge slash will connect on both hits
Quick sheath is a good skill to have with a GS aswell, makes you able to abuse the critical draw skill as much as possible and makes the GS a little more fast pased.

I always try to use diff weapons when going through a mh game. I love hunting horn, switch axe, and now im using greatsword. I knew I was missing a few things like I wasnt using its full potential and now I know it was the shoulder bashing I didnt ever think it was as useful as it was till I watched this thank you!

although its not mandatory, focus is highly recommended for GS if its available, crit draw comes close. guard and evade is great if youre not comfortable with certain monsters and later on in iceborne, frostcraft is also a quality skill to have with greatswords
Focus is mandatory...Crit Draw and Guard is useless for GS
Gotta have that Focus, hell sometimes I rock the quick sheathe too
Guard is not useless, since you CAN block with the weapon.
@@JagoEvershade Guard isn't technically useless, but I'd much rather put in, say, Divine Protection then Guard. You only really should Guard as a last resort.
Crit Draw is 100% useless and should never be used over just getting 100% crit naturally.
@@Nirroir factually incorrect, there are no different playstyle for GS. You don't ever need crit draw when you can just build in normal critical chance that will work on all hits instead of only focusing only on draw attacks. If you're only using crit draw then that means you are unable to utilise the full potential of GS because you don't know or taking advantage of monster's openings

Just got back into MHW with Iceborne, back to my GS main. Adjusting to the new stuff. Not a rookie, have several thousands of hours into the series as a whole but I'm always trying to learn new tech so I'm all for stuff like this! Passing it along to my buddy, we'll support any other fans.
That shoulder bash is invaluable, my buddy always forgets I can power through charges and whatnot. The new blast you can do helps the repositioning greatly now that I'm using it, I really like it.

This was very helpful, I beat the original game with duel blades and finally picked up iceborne recently and decided to switch to greatsword, I was confused on how to do the 3rd charge attack now I know! I subbed to btw thanks!

I try to use the slinger skip more then the shoulder bash as with draw boost the first attack is good, then the final is a true slash so thats great but the middle is kinda just meh.
This is what I don't understand. Sometimes the TCS does like 1.5k damage and sometimes it does 400-500 damage? How? What influences these numbers.
The Greatsword has a sort of "sweetspot" mechanic that depending on what part of the Greatsword's blade hits the monster, a certain % of damage is inflicted. This is why you can see varied numbers than usual despite hitting the same monster part multiple times. Hitting with the preferred part of the blade is however, easier said than done.
It depends, some monsters just don’t have a good threshold for physical damage. Also if you don’t know, the first hit of TCS plays a big part in the damage of the second hit. If the first hit is landed on a weak spot, the second hit will do a lot more damage
@@davidlu458 yeah even if the first part of tcs hits, it still sometimes only does relatively lower damage. I think it's related to what the previous reply said that it depends on which part of the blade hits.

Weak spot doesnt increase damage by 200%

I went through base World with greatsword and it was painful... then I got to iceborne! An easy and quick true charge attack? Amazing!! It fucking sucks how every monster is faster though!
