I grew my tomatoes in pots again, last week I cut 75% of the leaves off to help them ripen, and after some sunshine lots of them have started to ripen, your home is like mine, the cat catching the sun rays and the dog sprawled on the bed, love it!
Love your backyard! I make soup all the time as well. Never thought about the bravo stems or mashed potatoes. Thanks for the tips. Be easy on yourself you’ve just been through a lot.🙏🏻
Courgette, potato and onion fritters.... I could just live on them! Banana 'ice' cream...Peel them ( I freeze them without the peel) put them through a food processor whilst frozen delicious ... Well done with the aubergines!.. Tomatoes, once they have 2-3 trusses, take all the leaves off from the bottom to allow the sun to get at them leave a few leaves at the top and feed them to get the fruits growing and ripening. ( those banana skins chopped up make great tomato feed ). Have you got squiggles in the garden.. My corn and courgette was similarly munched.. it was squiggle...
Hi Jane, you’ve inspired me to try a new crockpot recipe for a potato soup that I found in a cookbook on my shelf this morning. And to get some frozen bananas of of the freezer and do up a batch of banana chocolate chip muffins this coming week 😊
If you do use grow bags for tomatoes, (or any other veg), I cut the bag in half and stand them on their end. The plants root really well like that, plus you can get a cane right down in to support the plant Happy harvesting!
Hello from Australia. Dear Jane, I've been subscribed for a while but haven't commented before. Jane, my sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad. I understand completely the stress you've been under in the weeks/months before losing your Dad. I'm also 60, the youngest of 4 and at the age of 94, after many trips on and out of hospital , my Dad passed away this Sunday morning. Unfortunately I live 3hrs away, so although we visited him on Thursday, we were unable to get back to him in time. It goes from weeks of uncertainty to all of a sudden! My eldest son also had a diagnosis we weren't prepared for in the last week, so stress seems to have come to stay. So yes Jane, I'm with you on the totally disorganised, while Dad was unwell, with many drives back and forth. Hoping my son will be okay, going forward, he's a Dad of 3 young ones and only 40. I'm going to try really hard to get back into some sort of routine and get back to making fitness and good health a priority. It's very hard when you have others to worry about, but we're no good to anyone if we're not well ourselves. I wish you all the very best Jane and look forward to your videos to come. Thank you very much for sharing. 🐨💐
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, with the worry about your son on top. I do hope it's nothing serious for him. It is very tough for you. Hugs from me x
My condolences on the loss of your Dad. I’ve lost both my parents now (I’m 66; it’s to be expected) and it’s painful and exhausting. You’ll get back to your organized life and your healthy routines. All the best. 💜
This video was comforting. Yes I do have hot tea and soup when it's hot out. My husband thinks it's a little odd. I'm also sewing fall quilts and it's been over 100F here 😊. I hope you have a lovely week Jane. ❤
Our book business is on hold, Cataracts surgery in a month for hubs. I had to drag him in after much denial. I am doing all the transport and medical appointments now, and is very tiring. I have cooking and sharing a lot from our garden. Tonight will just be slider burgers, corn and tomatoes. I have cleared the front decorative beds and am planting bulbs, then have to mulch. Son bought me a herb dryer to set up in the garage . We will have pumpkins in all sizes, colors, and shapes. All volunteers!
Love the jewellery box! I've been getting rid of the grass in my front garden and laying a membrane for when my pebbles arrive on Tuesday. I wanted a low maintenance front garden. Excited to see it finished!
It was very satisfactory watching you use up a little of this and a little of that from your freezer, plus substituting almond extract for vanilla extract. When I do those kinds of things, I feel very "housewifey." I have been doing that lately, too. I used a few things I forgot I had. Hmmm...need to do a better job of keeping an inventory of my freezer. Diane in NC
Such a great use of leftover veggies Jane, the soups will be wonderful for the winter months ☃️ The muffins look amazing too and lower carb with the almond and coconut flour, definitely going too make these! I hope you are slowly getting back to normal, so sorry to hear about your dad ❤💐
Hello Jane, I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Dad. Take your time to phase back into a new normal. Your soup looks delicious and I’m trying those muffins. 😋 Do you have a recipe for a simple, healthy granola you could share please?. You have a wonderful garden and you can see the work you have put into it. I love all the comments as well, with the great suggestions. Take care, best wishes from Lorraine, Australia. Xxx Ps. I love a cup of tea even when it’s 45deg here in the middle of summer 😊
Thanks, Lorraine. I have never made granola! I just chuck coconut flakes, various seeds and dried fruit on yoghurt and pretend it's a low-carb version, though, which I really enjoy for breakfast.
Hi Jane looks like your houseplants have thrips. I have about 50 houseplants and they have been attacked I washed then in the shower put cinnamon on the soil and sprayed with weak soapy water with a bit of rosemary oil in a spray bottle. Worth a try. Your kale has white butterfly and looks as if mice have been eating your other bits 😩. I had 4 courgette plants and I’ve had 2 courgettes they die before they fully grow not enough bees this year. Peace 🧚🏻♀️
I did manage lots of courgettes, thankfully. I have tried showering the houseplants - will be interested to find out if the cinnamon works, though. Mine look ok at the moment and are back on the window sills. We had better not have mice or I will have a stern word with the cats!
hi Jane, im having to ripen 95% of my tomatoes on the kitchen windowcill as im finding that if i leave them to ripen on the plant they are just rotting. its been the amount of rain weve had all summer i think that is to blame. also my cucumbers arent doing very well theyve been really small. my peppers are about the same size as yours and ive got 3 plants with loads on each plant so when (if) they do eventually grow i think ill have a pepper glut. have a great week love to you & Justin ❤
Hi Jane, that was lovely. Your garden has done really well you have grown lots of veg despite everything that has been going on so you should be proud. We were away last weekend in our caravan and got back Tuesday, a bit about that on my channel if you get a minute for a cuppa it's only a very short one. Have a super week.
You can ripen green tomatoes by putting them in a drawer between linen. My gran use to put them in the tea towel drawer.
Put the banana skins under your tomatoes to ripen them.

I've been getting ready for winter. Organizing and making sure I have stock of things we need and use during snow ❄days. ready for fall and winter.
Sorry for your loss. Take every day one step at a time. Do you until you're ready to do the necessary xx
Hi Jane ! Hope today is a good one for you. ❤
Lovely Jane, thank you..be very gentle with yourself...
Love your backyard! I make soup all the time as well. Never thought about the bravo stems or mashed potatoes. Thanks for the tips. Be easy on yourself you’ve just been through a lot.🙏🏻
Thanks for the tip about freezing broccoli stalks for soup, I’m definitely going to do that.

Green tomato chutney is delicious and so easy to make.
I am not a big fan of it. I only really like sweet pickle. But I do love tomato sauces and soups and will ripen them on the window sills.

That does sound hard work, Jeanne. I hope his surgery goes ok. Hopefully he will be able to see much better after.

You could use some of those green tomatoes to make fried green tomatoes or green tomato salsa or relish.
