As much as I enjoyed the original, I really think this version suits the solemnity of the songs' lyrics and meaning in the movie. This was beyond incredible. WOW!! Smog was the dragon they were going to fight to get back their home and their people's gold. The four "characters" that are singing are just like the ones in the movie...incredible!
The original song was written and sung by Ed Sheeran, and plays during the ending credits of the second Hobbit movie. He's already done Misty Mountains from the first one. We fans are going to nag him until he completes the trilogy and sings The Last Goodbye from the third Hobbit film. A duet with Billy Boyd would just make my decade. You've got Bassmaster Infinity for the Geoffquakes, so what is he in his upper register besides totally awesome? Get seatbelts for your chair for the next VoicePlay song. My favorite song of Geoff's or VP's from here on out will be "the next one" because they just keep killing them.
OMG...that ending song the Last Goodbye, from the third Hobbit movie, just took me out when I first heard it !...So sad and beautiful...If Jeff does this one, I'm a goner!
Awesome reaction Dennis. Characters left to right.... Killi... Bofur... Fillli.... Thorin. Hobbit 2 Desolation of Smaug... Smaug is a dragon that breathes fire. The story is that one of the dwarves steals from him. He gets mad and burns everything in sight. These guys plus 9 more dwarves fight the dragon to stop him. The Song is in the credits at the end of the movie.
Gloin(Gimli's father) Dwalin(the younger brother to Balin) Balin(the older brother to Dwalin) why the writers choose to switch their characteristics around in the movie beyond me. They also gave Dwalin lines that Thorin was speaking with about the Moon Ruins(Two different moons seen in the same month, according to Lord Elrond played Hugo Weaving) "You have to be standing there at the right place,in the right spot or you'll miss the the last sign of summer and the beginning of Autumn." It happens once every thousand years, which would was the light of the second moon, the first moon couldn't be seen that day cause it barely hides behind the sun that very day.. Legolas's father face the fire drakes(like Smaug) years ago while trying to acquire "gems" of star light. In the mist of his greed,he lost the love of his life(legolas's mother) to dragon fire and got burned while trying to protect her. Leaving his face scarred up(in the movie it shows his magic covering up revealing his half face shielded) but in reality he doesn't have magic effiety to heal himself from dragon fire.. when he showed Thorin his real face(which he is ashamed of) by warning his grandfather at the time King Thrain. Weird enough, there's a scene with Thorin meeting his father in Dalgundir(he was driven mad with grief after the death of his father by Azolg the white Gundabarg Orc.. Thorin the young prince around 40yrs old at the time, cut the hand of the Orc clean off lol. That's why Azolg uses a chain whip for a hand(believe it or not even though he's quite clumbersome for his size, he's very skilled with it)
There are no words!! This is absolutely amazing!! Yes, this is a "sequel" to Misty Mountains. Misty Mountains was from the 1st movie, this is from the second movie. I am such awe of Geoff and how amazing his arrangements are. Great reaction!!
Smaug is the dragon who is doing his best to annihilate their World. We really get to hear his higher ranges here. I love Geoff’s bassy goodness but it is the baritenor and tenor that really did it for me on this. His acting is top notch in this. Thorin glanced over with such a somber and melancholy look. And all of his lines are pretty somber as well. Geoff and the other two dwarves have more of a tone of gearing up for battle to me. But Thorin just seems like he’s reflecting on the near certainty of death and is in mourning. Eli did the lighting and arranged it so they were all synched. The day of filming, only Kathy and makeup genius Rick were there. It was filmed at PattyCake Productions. Listen to the lyrics. I thought of our deployed military when I finally listened to the words, not just the gorgeous music.
The original is really beautiful; I would encourage you to go listen to it at least once! Love that we got a ton of tenor Geoff in this this one, and belting no less!
Hi Dennis thank you for another awesome reaction to Geoff. If you want to see a totally different side of Geoff then please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover " Peaches " ( Bowser, Mario, Luigi & Toad ). Geoff really unleashes his inner Rock God in this one. Look out Eli, Geoff is coming for you lol. At the end one of Layne's daughters makes a cameo appearance as Peaches. They did this live , outdoors.
So, Misty Mountains is the group of dwarves (and Bilbo) setting out on their journey to the misty mountains. This song is where they've gotten there and angered the dragon, and now he's about to go and destroy the nearby town. This is the eye of the storm, where we've just been through one fight, and we're in the calm before the next battle begins. I love that he keeps the video in that kind of space, where he isn't going too big.
Just noticed...it looks like Jeff is using the same or very similar costumes and characters that he used in the cover for Misty Mountains...and the characters he portrayed in that are in reverse order in this cover! In that one, the main singer was at the right hand, and in this, he starts out with a very similar singer/costume at the very left...I do hope he continues with these guys...they are just awesome!
Like we would ever forget Geoff. One of the people who don't believe in climate change said that NY wouldn't hurt you. The levels are pushing 400 and 200 is the current high end. But it won't hurt you.
Geoff arranges half of the Voice Play songs that is why it sounds like something they would do. He and Layne and Eli are original members. They started the group
@@laundrygoddess4 Eli came around the time slightly behind Layne(Eli had hair back in the day as well 😁) btw Layne's nephew plays Jack Skeleton in "This is Halloween."
Did anyone else spot the Easter egg ? Geoff on the far right is wearing the same key he wore in " Misty Mountain Cold " ( in that one it was the Geoff on the far right but with clothing on ).
Loved your reaction! Hes amazing! I like in NJ and we had the haze too. Every morning for 3 days it looked like the whole world was burning. It was freaky as hell! We could barely go outside it burned our eyes so bad. Cant imagine how bad it was for everyone else more north!
Yes, this is a "sequel" song to Misty Mountains Cold. MMC was from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey whereas I See Fire is sung over the credits of the second movie in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. This song is talking about how the dragon, Smaug, burned the dwarves of the Lonely Mountain and the men of Dale out of their homes and lives. And, just for easy identification, the dwarves (and clones) are, from left to right: Kili (Geoff), Bofur (Jeff), Fili (Goff), and Thorin Oakenshield (Daryl). Geoff says that clone Jeoph took the video off.
You really should listen to the original song…it definitely wasn’t sung anywhere near that low but that’s the beautiful thing about being an artist and being able to interpret in your own way
The Last Goodbye from the third Hobbit movie with Billy Boyd would be a dream come true. I can only imagine. This was sheer magic. Geoff is the biggest dragon under the mountain with those glorious low notes.
This song brings tears to my every time as the images of what the dragon is doing as they sing their death dirge. The music always sounded like wings pumping in the back ground the deep thunder of the wings sweeping up and crashing down. The horrifying shadow of death and destruction flying overhead. The line about the tunnels should bring more terrible images when you watch the hobbit and they find the skeletons grouped together in a room. All were burned alive in their own made golden tombs. This before we even know of the Balrag. This song I see warriors watch in petrifying terror of not being able to do anything but watch your friends and family be burned alive, eaten or dropped from the sky by that gigantic dragon Smaug who is there for their home and the vast wealth it holds because swords, knives, arrows are all useless. Greed begets Greed in this deadly moment. All you can do is accept the inevitable of a horrific death. Smaug came because of the massive amount of gold and gems the dwarves had collected , never happy with what they had. In the end Smaugs Greed was his demise by the greed of all races. Fabulous version he holds the tremble of fear in his voice along with acceptance of it all. I think it is now my absolute favorite. Ed Sheerens version is more like a bard singing the song in a tavern as others listen. This version is the Death Dirge of Dwarven warriors who have accepted they cannot do anything watch those they care about die before their own deadly demise.
If you weren't familiar with Geoff and his work and just heard this song blind you would swear this was sung by multiple people
He's so talented and does the "split-screen" perfectly!
Geoff = BASS on Demand!!! He's got such a wonderful GOD-talent!!! Never disappointing!!!

I like this. It's got a catchy beat. Another masterpiece by the Master Dragonslayer, Lord Geoff.

Got a good one for you brutha!! Legendary vocals from the one the only!! Fiji-Riddim of life!! You won’t be DISAPPOINTED!!!
This cover is a HUGE hit on UA-cam right now! Geoff, my hat's off to you sir. ^_^
That slight dip at the end of the word "mountain" in the first phrase is just so primitive and raw! Love it.

So much fun that one’
And Geoff hit his highest recorded note in it.
I've been listening to the arrangement since he released it on Patreon. Today I was concentrating on the lyrics, it's just an amazing song!
Love everything Geoff and VoicePlay, and love your reactions to them! Thank you!

Killi - Bass
Bofur - Tenor
Killi - Baritone
Thorin - WTF Geoff
@@dianeschluter9995 I think the third dwarf is Filli, but otherwise I agree. And thanks for the laugh!

This is the other other extreme for me. The tune disappears like at very high pitch shouting. Just because you can, you don't have to.:)
You stop it way too much
This is a nice cover. Though I prefer Peter Hollens' version better. And of course the original with Ed Sheeran is really good also.
