I love the way the first gentleman introduces speakers. You can tell he cares alot about each individual speaker. They way he describes their attributes and how they have devoted their time and efforts to the association is very genuine and real. I enjoy his introductions especially when he makes a fun jab at a speaker, lol
Informative and educational presentation, excellent.
A much needed spotlight on Major General Jackson and the Trench Warfare Department many thanks for posting . Regards Gav .
Thank you very much for this video. Your passion for this topic is only surpassed by your knowledge. I hope someday you will release a book so this information is not lost for future generations.
A fascinating lecture and a wealth of information.
I learned so much.
Thankyou for posting this.
i guess it is kind of randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream new series online?
@Asa Jefferson I watch on FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
I had never heard of Gen. Jackson, thank you for sharing this video.
Ditto ! Was this the guy "Action Jackson" was named after ? For a follow up, what ever happened to him ?
I wish I was as knowledgeable as this gentleman
fascinating insights, thanks!
Great talk, shame no time for the Stokes mortar.
I can see how this way of testing obnoxious gas weapons ultimately lead to nerve gas testing on regular oblivious soldiers who were simply written off with as death by misadventure.
Very interesting thank you!
Bloody Nora we had resorted to fighting with hairbrushes and bloody jam tins, I am so thankful for your channel I have a keen interest in all western front aspects, I had to have a giggle not in a disrespectful way but maybe to some of the coping humour that would most definitely have been used at lobbing a jam tin over the top! But in another light the grasping despair at just how unprepared and the futility felt by our boys!
Notice the Tickler's Plum nad Aplle Jam? Load the tin with explosive, throw at Enemy ,and 'Tickle ' them up.
At 21.20 Dr Sneddon says that "In October 1918 . . .. " Claude Pemberton Leech asked to demonstrate his hand-grenade catapult. Surely this was rather late in the war to be of any use?
Did Dr Sneddon make a mistake and intend an earlier date?
I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue, I think he meant 1914.
Good God almighty, could you imagine if as a people we put that much effort into something useful like curing cancer, AIDS or poverty?
We take our time and limit our resources when it comes to those but when a war comes around it's balls to the wall.
Almost makes you ashamed to be a human doesn't it.
21:16 October 1918 ? Possibly should be 1915.
So, by 'off this list' he means 'away from this list' - to buy anything from companies not on the list was forbidden. It's ambiguous, so I thought I'd mention it having worked out the only way in which it isn't self-contradictory.
When will mankind finally be done with war? So much tragedy, so much misery.
