  • DeSoto Falls Campground is a dry campground (no hook ups) in the Chattahoochee National Forest about 45 minutes from our house. We've driven past the entrance at least a dozen times always saying that we'd go there one day. There is a lower and upper falls with a .25 and .75 mile trail to each. The site fee to camp is $12 or for those with the "annual or lifetime geezer pass" only $6 per night. Last September we were determined to check it out and camp there. Unfortunately, that was the same time tropical storm Irma blasted through our area and the tree damage closed the campground for months. Then I read that the campground was open but both trails to the falls were still closed. Then recently we sold our truck camper only to discover that the trail to the lower falls had been reopened. Yoly and I decided to make a quick afternoon reconnaissance mission to check out the campground and lower falls in anticipation of our next foray into camping rigs .... stay tuned.

HAHA! Love The Tubes - White Punks as the music you were listening to while doing the vid. Classic!

Glad that you enjoyed the video. I've wanted to camp there so badly now that we have a new camper but it's been so incredibly hot and humid here since the beginning of June !

Tornado went through that area several years ago and did some tree damage

Good to see you're moving forward with camping ideas even though the last rig is off on new trails without y'all. Thanks for the tour of the beautiful DeSoto Falls! :-)

We're going to visit a manufacturer next week to look at some options :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing what y'all look at. We think this little 2014 14 footer made by Jayco will work out fine for us. It has a few of the things we want and nothing we do not. It's always fun to look and new and used rigs...happy trails!

Very nice campground. Hopefully we can visit once we retire.

It's a rather small campground but as a National Forest CG, the annual pass price of $6 a night is definitely appealing. Sure hope they get the trail to the upper falls cleared soon :-)

I camped there last year! The hike to the falls was fun. Very pretty area. The open air shower was my first experience at something like that.

I wished we had checked out the main bathroom (with shower). Was the shower hot ?

I meant to ask you also ... did you go to both the upper and lower falls ? And if so, what do we have to look forward to when we see the upper falls for the first time ?

Oh you live in North Georgia? Nice... I bet you started to miss your camper already after checking out the campground.

Yes, we started to miss Pierre the moment we watched him go up our driveway. We are working on an alternative at the moment but still in the research phase :-)

Great video!! DeSoto is one of many waterfalls I hope to see in the northern part of Georgia, when I visit. Hopefully, it will be within the next year. PS: I now have The Tubes' "White Punks On Dope" stuck in my head now. LOL.

LOL :-) It's an easy one to get stuck in your head :-) Ironically, we have passed by the entrance at least a dozen times on our way to the State Parks just to the north a bit more and for some reason, just never stopped in. The campground was much nicer than I expected and much closer to the main road (you can't see anything on Google Earth). We'll probably spend the first night out there in our new camper when we get one. You can run a generator between 8 am and 10 pm if needed. Wish we had checked out the main bathroom .... the vault toilet was spotless and odor free :-)
