    So heartwarming to hear your husband has come around. When you said he stroked your hair, that said it all. You gave him the time he needed. A lesson for all of us, “patience pays off.”

    IMHO patchy, *cotton-candy* hair makes a person look sad & seriously ill...even to our family. Now you look GI-JANE cool, happier & adorable! Sooooo happy for you! Thank you for being transparent! ❤

    When you described your scalp and the thin hairs pulling on our head, that is exactly what I have. I finally buzzed and thought "why did I wait so long"!!! I felt liberated!! PLUS you look stunning!!! I am single so maybe it was easier for me being alone. Love your videos Denise!!

    Oh my goodness, Denise, I am so glad you made this video. I have gone back and forth with the idea of shaving my head, literally for about five years. I still have bio hair but not only is it fine (strand wise) but of course it is thinning a little more every day. I want to cry when I look in the mirror. I would love to not fuss with it anymore, but I am flat out scared, plus I don't have multiple wigs to choose from. About two years ago, I went to the salon and told her to "shave it all off" She was horrified and said she would be willing to cut short layers all over, but not buzz it. So, that's what she did. Everything you said rang a bell with me. It must be so freeing. Thanks, Denise for being so transparent with all of us. Diane

    You look absolutely GORGEOUS with it buzzed like this! It looks "Purposeful" and there's a lot to be said about that word. I do have a question... Do you have a video on how you use "It Stays"? I would like to see how you apply it. I don't feel the need right now to use it, buy maybe down the road, or with a certain wig I will need it. Thank you for being YOU!

    Hi, you are so brave and I'm so proud of you. I've got alopecia and have been hidding under hair powders/large hairbands and such for 30 plus years. (52 now) I've just gone for my first wig fitting and can't wait to walk in a breeze without worrying who can see my scalp. So I'm binging on all wig related videos. Thanks for sharing. A big contactless hug from me to you. Stay safe.

      Hi, Trish! Well... welcome to the wig sisterhood! The most wonderful group of women you never wanted to identify with, lol. No, seriously... I know exactly what you are going through and want to send you hugs and love for this journey. It can be tough at times as there is quite a learning curve but it is also SO FUN! I was 46 when I FINALLY discovered this awesome wig community and wigs and had been losing my hair since my 20s. In the beginning it was hard and I struggled to feel comfortable in wigs, but once I got over the mental and emotional barrier and embraced them, it has been awesome ever since! I'm so glad you are here! ❤❤❤

    Thank you so much. I recently shaved my head too. Actually, my hubby shaved it the first time, using #2 blade and he was so sweet in doing it. I'm now down to using a #1 and I have the sides longer too for blending. Like you I am still debating on keeping them or not. I am so glad I finally shaved my head. So much better from that thin thin on top cotton candy stuff. I can't use It Stays any more so I use the gel grip and just love the way it really holds all my wigs in place. Thanks a million for these videos. Psalm 119:18 xoxoxo

    Thanks so much for this! I love your open, generous heart! I think my husband was ready when I was because he had seen me go through so much with the ebb and flow of my hair growth over our 31 years of marriage. Plus, I had learned years ago that he didn't process almost anything as quickly as I did. When I extended grace to him by giving him the space he needed to process both big and little changes, then he was free to give that grace right back to me. It sounds like you have a great relationship with your husband!

    Great video, brave and beautiful Denise! Buzzing the hair is exactly like making the decision to wear wigs = liberating and you think "I wish I had done this earlier". I want to encourage you to go shorter - I am now using the smallest setting and lately no guard at all, meaning 0 (shaving-like). my hair grows quickly ,so by going with the closest shave I get 3 more weeks until next time. But let's be honest, since it takes me 5 minutes the buzz, the real reason is that it is so comfortable, clean feeling and fun to touch. I tend to walk around the house with a soft baseball cup in the summer and a beanie in the winter, just because I like the feel of a hat on my head. My wigs are short and light (I am child size head) and I never secured them in any way, no wig cup or wig grips.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  5 років тому

      Hi, Anat! When it is time for me to buzz again I plan to use a 2 and see how that goes... baby steps to get here and baby steps forward, lol! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. 💕

    I think you look great. I used to have a pony and the wigs and wig grip would pull my hair. You can even keep it a little longer and blend it with the sides. I keep the front bangs and sides for blending and the rest is short but tapered. Makes it look a little more like an intentional hairstyle 💁🏻‍♀️

    Hi Denise, brilliant to get your update on your journey with the buzz cut. As always, you have such a happy positive disposition & you radiate like sunshine 🌞
    I have had major surgery at the top of my spine (cervical) & the little ‘pony’ has been causing me such discomfort I so want to follow your lead. However, I do have toppers that I can still wear so it’s debatable whether or not to just go for my wigs full time or not. We’ll see.......
    Enjoy the comfort, take care & look forward to seeing you soon 😘 xx

      @heywigsister  5 років тому

      Oh gosh, prayers for your recovery. Many many prayers and hugs! If you can still wear toppers that changes things just a bit. I can't so my hair was more an annoyance than anything that was useful. Take your time and know you have sisters out there rooting for you. XOXO!

    Hi Denise, I watched your buzz video twice. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for sharing your thoughts about 'being beautiful as I am'! That inspired me ... and I buzzed my hair 2 days ago. I made a decision beforehand that however the results came out (good or bad), I will not let them affect my feelings of love and self-acceptance. I do not have any bald spots, only very thin hair. I think the results on my scalp look similar to yours in this video. I feel great for many of the reasons you gave, and also because I am aware of a heightened sense of confidence and strength. I will not let judgment about my appearance drag me down. I find I like the au natural look and the 'wig' look, they definitely are different, and I may even prefer the buzzed look ... woman warrior. You look beautiful with a wig and also without a wig.

    good job! you are very well-spoken esp on the husband topic. my older cousin had 'cotton candy hair' for years (SHE would point it out - nobody else thought TWICE about it we all thought she was gorgeous)... due to lots of things, like being a twin (the WEAKER twin) + health conditions she was born with...she did mention once in a while about wanting to shave it all off and start fresh. but she was worried what people would say (I BET it was only her mom's and aunts she was worried about being mean.) never shaved it then. there are both aspects to it - with her she never ever wore wigs of any kind, i think she might not even have considered it was a possibility! she did use henna and stuff to thicken its appearance.. but she could have shaved it too like she would talk about! i wonder whether she ever ended up doing it?? she wanted to for so long. she also wears the hijab normally, out and about (anyplace there are men besides her husband or family men). so if she was worried about people 'staring' (which tbh they wouldn't have but she was v self-conscious) she would have that to cover it up anyway

      We all have our struggles, that is for sure. I would never have considered doing this if I did not have wigs to wear, so I understand her hesitation. I also think that sometimes we notice our flaws a lot more than others do. Thank you so much for taking time to comment!

I will have a little bit of bio hair. I am pretty thrilled that I don't get hair shedding into my family's food, my wigs fit GREAT (size fits better and no strays falling out from underneath the cap), and I am super happy with the ease of washing and drying my head.

    Isn't it freeing?? When I decided to do mine (on November 19th) I told my husband I was going to do it "Since I wear a wig all the time". He said okay and even buzzed my hair for me. Honestly, the man didn't act even the tiniest bit affected. He did rub my head sometimes like yours did and I didn't mind! He was never allowed to touch my head before! The strangest thing is though, that I've not put a wig on ONCE since the day I buzzed it! Sounds weird but it almost felt like my "true identity" was revealed. There was nothing to hide under anymore. I was very self-conscience at first, but adjusted after about 2 weeks. I just kept telling myself, "no one cares what your hair looks like!". My hair has grown a LOT since then. I don't really want to go back to having to mess with it so I may have to get the clippers back out. You look amazing and I'm so happy for you. :)

      @heywigsister  5 років тому +1

      Thank you, Diane! I can totally relate to what you are saying. I'm not to the point where I am willing to go out without a wig, but I rarely put something on my head now if I am just hanging around the house whereas before I always wore a baseball cap if I wasn't wearing a wig. It IS freeing!! Thank you so much for sharing and big hugs for you and your journey! ❤️

    Excellent Denise! I've been wondering how it's gone for you. I guess you haven't experienced any itching because you didn't mention it. I LOVE your spirit...and your "sensitivity with your scalp since you were a little girl" makes me wonder if you are a Highly Sensitive Person?! Look it up - I have some things I could share with you (I am an HSP) if you find you are. I can't wear sandals with the thing between the toes (it hurts too much), and as a kid, I had to cut off any lace or wool around my underarms because it hurt too much. These are signs, plus being a very empathic person. Love this video and thank you for sharing -- you have such a kind heart. Glad your husband is fully on board too.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  5 років тому +1

      No- no itching at all! I think it is just the right length, any shorter and maybe that would be an issue. Oh, and OMG! I have one pair of thong sandals that I can wear, but otherwise I have NEVER been able to wear them because they hurt my toes. I could never understand how anyone could find those comfortable. I was thrilled when I found the ones I can wear, and am so said I didn't buy like 4 pairs because I have never found another pair since that don't hurt. I plan to look up HSP and learn about it... that is so cool, thanks for sharing!

    I know you had spent a lot of time debating about buzzing your hair. Your hair loss looks a LOT like mine. I just couldn't wait to find a wig I liked so I could cut off the hair that I had categorized as "problem hair" for years -- thin, but wavy and dry, and full of cowlicks, and full of greys that I felt like I had to dye -- and now, no coloring, no expensive haircuts (clipper guard on 2 or 3 all around), showers are so much faster, wigs are more comfortable....
    It took my husband a few months to get used to the new 'do, but like yours, now he just sort of shrugs. Of course, HE started shaving his head years ago in response to HIS his hair loss....

      It is so funny how our husbands see things that impact them differently, lol. Oh our men :). Thank you so much for taking time to comment, Elsa! Have a great rest of the week!

My scalp hurts..oh well. I get it.. you are pretty I’m glad to see your smile and videos. Thanks for sharing. ❤️

    I'm single, so I don't have a spouse to worry about, but I do have an 8-year-old son and I have some very close friends and my family as well that I'm thinking of as I consider cutting my hair off. I know for my son it's going to be a change. He's used to seeing me with my sad lil messy bun at the back of my head, but yesterday I tried on my wig after doing some thinning and he said it looked good on me, so he likes me in the one wig I currently have. But having no hair might be a little hard on him. Maybe the baby steps will be easier on him and my friends and family.

      Hi, Toni! I used a 3 in the end and went over my whole head with it instead of the sideburns. Here is the original video: ua-cam.com/video/bal2HSRvftc/v-deo.html

    Oh yes. Our husbands are definitely going through this work us. Thankfully, mine “seems” to be okay with me wanting to shave it all off.

    Good for you. I found that suddenly you just feel like you need to do another cut. It feels too long and itchy. Hope you are getting some coolness from it.

    You look great! And now, if I put make up on, you will look exactly like your cyber mother! Isn't that cool? Now we both have caterpillar heads! My husband doesn't mind at all. I think he was sick of cleaning up all the hair that was flying around the house, we have hardwood floors, and there were hairballs everywhere. I used to have to vacuum my sweatshirt 2 or 3 times a day... our husband's love us inside as well as outside. A couple of my kids a couple of my kids seemed traumatized when I showed them my bald head, (they are all adults) When my oldest daughter saw me, she said, “ you can go on Facebook and get a ‘go fund me page’, you can pretend you have cancer! “ (a sense of humor really helps). It is an adjustment, and some people take it better than others. It's the decision each one of us has to make, and your videos certainly help💕
