  • It's happened to me before within two weeks from brand new bike pick up from a dealer. The switch was replaced and now it's happened again rendering the bike unusable until managed by force to push the switch into a position that allows to start the bike. I don't use it to turn off because it would break again. When I look at my mates' bikes such as 25 years old Africa Twin you see quality and robust stuff that's been working for years. BMW saved on this one - cheap and rubbish component that should be redesigned/factory recall IMHO! Otherwise the bike did well on really rough terrain although the engines specific can cause it to stall when using too much clutch. Africa and 1200GS were much better to handle slow clutch operated riding.

@@r-prizzle2168 Thanks for coming back on here! I think the ring-thing is recognizing the ignition key as everything on the dash is doing what it should do. I haven't yet got a T9 torx to take off the handlebar switch so today I'm trying to find where the lead from the kick/sidestand connect to. This is my first, and will be my last bmw!

@@MrStr8den starter switch not the actual starter but still it was $300+ for the switch. Honestly fuck off with that shit BMW. Same first and last. Apparently they have the highest failure rate. Harley is 2nd if you can believe it.
