While McLaughlin's lap was remarkable, Murphs "Lap of the Gods" is the only one that should be called that. McLaughlin's lap was 4 tenths faster than Reynolds. still very impressive and it was one of the greatest single laps in history. But Murph beat JB by 1.1sec, that is just inconceivable in modern motorsport, the one true Lap of the Gods. and it still gives me goosebumps to this day watching that lap.
They’re both great laps in their own rights. Murphy’s lap is great because it was so unexpected and completely out of nowhere. McLaughlin’s lap though was so flamboyant especially across the top when he went through the dirt and still went faster. Respect both laps, although Murph’s lap is my favourite of the two.
For me, it’s not just that Murphy’s lap was a record breaker, but that he outpaced 2nd place Bowe by over a second. That’s a lifetime in the shootout, even back then.
I still remember the pub I was at losing it at Chaz Mostert all over the back of Whincup in 2014. Absolute confusion as Whincup ran out of gas and coasted down the hill after Mostert went for the overtake. One of the best moments in racing I've ever seen!
So many great moments on The Mountain. My personal number 1 would be Brocky's 1979 victory. Finished the race 6 laps ahead & set the lap record on the last lap!
unreal that anyone could think that whincup didn’t cause the entire issue with the redressing. He pushed scott off, then slammed the brakes on the racing line. Should have been given a 10 second stop/go
Oh horseshit. He tried to redress the contact. Its obvious Tander had pulled up and avoided Whincup. It was the dive out to go around him, not knowing Mclaughlan was next to him is what caused it.
@@staticman1263 that is not the place on the track to make a redress on the racing line especially when you have another car following right behind him. The safest place to make the redress would be on pit straight off the racing line. A driver should never drive slow on the racing line unless it is absolutely necessary. Whincup wanted to do the redress there so he could have another go at overtaking McLaughlin at Murray's Corner.
I thought for sure somewhere in the top 10 would be Chaz Mostert annihilating the Tickford Racing No.6 (and his leg) in qualifying for the 2015 Bathurst 1000, claiming a marshal's post with him.
Yeah I'll agree to this list. And in this order, that 2014 victory was on another level given Chaz was in the fence twice after starting last... My favourite 1000, followed closely by 2006
YUP Sure did. THERE WAS NOTHING BEFORE SUPERCARS. 27 Years ago, God created Mt Panorama. He saw that it was good. He anointed Tony Cochrane as a Christ-like figure (currently Mark Skaife).
There was a similar incident a few years later. I think it was either 2021 or 2022 where two Mustangs got taken out in that same spot. One was the snowy river caravans entry and the other was the monster energy mustang for memory. Can't remember the third car that caused it. Could've been a ZB Commodore that caused it but I know it was definitely none of the red bull commodores. It was just as terrifying if not more terrifying than the Whincup incident.
i cant believe some people still think Murphy was in the wrong with ambrose... when its clear as day that ambrose turned in on murph and sent himself.... ...and then the Whincup/McLaughlin/Tander incident.... yeah sure ..whincup caused it with the hip check... but scottys rejoin was damn horrible, it was that poor move that put them into the wall... dutto baggin tander is bloody rich!...tander gets blocked by whincup..tries to pass, and gets hammered by scotty?... how tf is any of that tanders fault? ...he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time...
One of the best soundtracks produced by this country, a V8 at full song heading down Conrod!
Yes, That would have to be one of the Better 'Bathurst Moments' Lists yet!!

And done with a later proven Illegal power plant! Shouldn't be on this list im sorry.. Nice guy and not his fault though.

@@traveltopia1the engine you talk about was the 2019 engine
Given that McLaughlin's overall lead was only slight above what Murph's was per segment, I couldn't agree more
For me, it’s not just that Murphy’s lap was a record breaker, but that he outpaced 2nd place Bowe by over a second. That’s a lifetime in the shootout, even back then.
The Commodore & Falcon made such cool racing cars
Agree. Really miss the VF and FG X

Just the funniest ending ever
One of the best motor races of all time
Yeah Dutto was taught well by Roland.
Still murphs lap of the gods is freakish! Just looks and sounds amazing to this day.
Awesome! Bring on the weekend!!!!!!

Redressing is a bad idea, as seen
@@philpreston3072 No. pulling out into a car that is blindly reentering the track is a bad idea.
100% agree with #1. That was the best/most bizarre race I think I have seen.
it's that time of year once again
That verbal spat at 7:31.

I believe there was a moment from the 92 Bathurst which was without a doubt more iconic than anything on this list
Hmmmmmmm interesting...enigmatic comment.
Plus a very sad moment from that race :(
As per Fab's comment. I knew it was a bad accident when I got out of the car without opening a door.
Love it, thanks for sharing!
The track is jammed, the track is jammed
Life himself 😂
Lowdnes win of 2006 is a fairy tale ending to a heartbreaking death of peter brock
Idk why but i almost hear Mark Skaife say something like " & the safety Roo has been deployed " 😂😅
#11 The 2024 championship is going to be decided.
14:18 why there is chewdrens?.???????
Geez whoever edited this could've put the graphics in, particularly for those fast laps.
Love Dutton nothings ever 888 fault in his eye always hard done by
So Bathurst only started 27 years ago?
no the first race was in 1960, it was a very very different race back then.
I'm also disappointed, I wanted to see Richards and Skaife's 92 win
YUP Sure did. THERE WAS NOTHING BEFORE SUPERCARS. 27 Years ago, God created Mt Panorama. He saw that it was good. He anointed Tony Cochrane as a Christ-like figure (currently Mark Skaife).
Greg Murphy was so arrogant back then….and I loved it!😂 This is what made V8 Supercars so great back then, big drivers with big egos.
McLaughlin's Redress?
You mean Whincups redress and Scotty’s rejoin?
@@ashdog236 Yep 100% on Whincup
@@ashdog236 definitely sounds more accurate to me!

@@BlairSauer do you mean the Mostert vs Waters incident when they were team mates and took each other out in the chase?
Am I the only one who thinks Ambrose and Murphy are practically twins? ahahahaha
What happened to the racers friend who won?
What about the boulder on the track in 1980? I guess you don't have the rights for most stuff.
Should have had the 2020 Holden win
Murphy. Always the FW.

Marcos Ambrose was the most overrated driver in the history of Supercars.
