Thanks again to Hot Wheels Rift Rally for sponsoring today's video! What do you think of this new way to experience Hot Wheels? To get your hands on one, head over to this link: bit.ly/RiftRally
Would be interested if I could use my Android phone or a PC controller. I'd also mention the Switch, but in that case the AR Mario Car probably would be a better fit.
Can we get a video on small local home/small business NAS setup that will not break the bank? With the recent hack of Western Digital and My Cloud leaving stuff that is stored on a home network drive unusable, I need some similar stuff that is not cloud based to migrate to for a family members small business
Sad only companies that don't play well with others can use the hot wheels car game guess I can add them to the list of toys my kid will never have right next to Sony and Apple
@@D_H_13 No complaints really. They really did a better job with this iteration of the software by the looks of it. I was just surprised to see how similar the design was, given the flop of the Nintendo version. Maybe these were built due to a large overstock of leftover parts or unsold units.
Either they did the work for Nintendo 2 years ago and have only just been allowed to make a product out of it themselves - or it took them 2 years to make an identical copy.
Velan Studios developed the tech several years ago without a solid game idea. They pitched the tech to Nintendo who licensed it for Home Circuit. I’m guessing the contract had an exclusivity agreement that prevented Velan from releasing any additional games using the Momentum tech for a specific time period.
I think that doing tech toys (for kids and adults) is a great idea for LMG. Either as a regular addition to ShortCircuit or its own channel. How good and young-user friendly is the UI, ease of setup, battery life, etc. Those are seldom covered for those type of items.
While it's harder to be, like, unbiased, I'd love to also see different opinions on a "price-to-play" value ratio-especially from staffers with kids in the target demographic. Like, these cars looks really cool, but how many times are kids really gonna play with it before laying out the tracks and syncing up the car with the controller and all that becomes too much of a chore (for either the kids or the parents)? How many play sessions would that need to be to warrant paying the price for one-or if someone has multiple kids, then the price for at least two cars so they can race each other too? Would you be better off just buying your kids a couple of $20 Walmart-brand RC cars instead?
@@Wolfesbrain Like so many other toys, I think this vid showed that the idea of it is a lot more fun than the actual reality of it. Like the tech is almost there, but the cost/fun ratio probably plateaus pretty quickly. Honestly this reminds me of when I would watch streamers play Among Us and think wow, that looks really fun. Then the reality of requiring 8 friends who want to play it, be into it, and be good at it, all make the actual playing of the game fall significantly short.
Not completely sure but I think the MK one only uses local wireless for the Switch which has a limited range. Hot Wheels one can connect through an access point which could allow connections from several isolated rooms away.
Correct I could use it outside with the iPad using the iPads connection. So now you could take it anywhere. Your iPad goes. I only original Mario and Luigi but I like this version because I could use it in my driveway.
LTT: Is there anything we cannot talk about? Mattell Product Marketing Manager: DO NOT mention how it's just a reshell of the Mario Kart thing by Nintendo!
Riley sounded a little sarcastic, but I was actually pretty impressed by the AR stuff. It picked up the gates quickly, there was basically no drift on the AR elements. I could see this be a pretty awesome experience to play with your kids.
I hope AR gaming makes a big comeback, I really enjoyed Recoil Laser tag back in the day and would love to see a product like that return to the market.
Man this seems like the thing I would have LOVED as a kid, and there is NO way my parents would have had the money to buy it. And I wouldn't even blame them.
The emergency of augmented reality toys makes me sad that I’m not a child who has time to play with things like that. I feel like if I bought it for myself I would instead be focused on all the crap I have to do to eat and survive :-( but maybe one day I can give that kind of cool toy to my son who can enjoy it for some portion of his youth before the cycle starts again.
Why isn’t this video marked as ad-sponsored content, when that’s literally what it is? Not that it’s a big deal or anything, I’m just curious why this video is exempted.
Many people already pointed it out, but this is very similar to Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. It's probably the big Mario Kart fan in me, but I prefer Nintendo's product. I have to admit however, that Hot Wheels Rift Rally being able to be used with a much wider range by having the car and your device connected to the same network, is just amazing! I wonder if Hot Wheels Rift Rally recognizes height changes in the track. If that's the case, then even I admit that it's much better than Mario Kart: Home Circuit...
Is there a age bracket for this sort of a toy rc car ? I like the whole WiFi network connection vs pure direct radio transmitter mode that RC cars have. It be super cool to actually have gas powered ones vs battery operated for nice cool sound effects and be able to do it out in the open vs indoors (no one would want fumes if its gas powered :) )
Yeah it is Mario Kart Live but not really. They managed to include gatcha elements, unlocking new stuff, but the question is, is it just placebo or they really have a complex motor system that can change the car handling. Well I guess this is short circuit so just enjoy the ride xD
Okay Rift Rally looks like a lot of fun and reminds me of the Mario racing AR you all featured some time back, but I think the hot wheels is better from what you all showed.
Sponsor points: - Do not talk about Mario Kart Live - Do not talk about Mario Kart Live - Open the box or something idk - Do not talk about Mario Kart Live
I feel like this will be better once wifi 7 is common place, so that the race track could be huge. Still better then the Mario one just from the fact you don't NEED to have a console
Mariokart live home circuit part 2. All of the tech and setup process is the exact same, and the one new thing that this does is allow you to directly connect to the car. It’s still a kool product though, and the ps4/5 support is weird, it’s still a good thing.
Nothing wrong with an internet-enabled, phone/console-connected, remote controlled camera, that maps your property and spends 2.5 hours recharging a non-removable battery.
The AR looks really good though. Only uses the camera (probably some sensors too) on the R/C car, but there's no jumpy assets, responsive tracking as the car goes about. I know of the Mario Kart thing in the past but it wasn't that reliable.

@@Lrtzeh oranges are better he eats plenty of them ;)
That is straight up the Mario Kart vehicle with a new shell. It even looks to be the same camera and gates!
I was thinking the same. Even the gates or like the same
I want it to complete my mario set haha
its made by the same company

Would be fun if they made it compatible with mario cart car
Same developers, but with Hot Wheels now.
Riley must now incorporate "don't step on my boneshaker" into every video he hosts. Catchphrase acquired 👍
Most definitely 😂😂

finally, ltt/lmg are going back to toy videos, everything is coming together.
when is the next firetruck review?
I came to the comments to find something about the fire truck and was not disappointed 😂😂
Since it's HotWheels and DLC's got mentioned, I'm going to assume there's gonna be a lot of models to pay for.
can't wait for them to review an actual firetruck, like vancouver fire department firetruck review
Part of me feels like this was made to be on the set of the next Home Alone movie.
There must be dozens of us that saw Home Alone 3.
@@troy4393 I didn't know there was a 3rd one.
Riley is the perfect person to review this 🤣
Seems like the Mario Kart AR kit, wonder if the range is better
Probably the same, made by the same compnay (Velan Studios)

Riley gets to play with Hot Wheels at work and I'm jealous
Seems a better refined Mario Kart AR. Amazing how much a bit more time to develop can do.
I need this 15 years ago ASAP

I just picked it up for 30 bucks from gamestop online
Not a new idea, but I like the way this is done! Riley should come in the box though, I'd have a lot of fun playing with him 😁
IT was kind of impressive how quickly it drew the course after you ran the initial lap.
Finally Linus media group going back to its roots reviewing toys. I wonder if the fire truck video is still one of the most watched video ever.
Ok... This is actually a dope concept. I hope they don't kill this project. I'm buying one
Ah yes, even my Hot Wheels can spy on me now
Man this reminds me of that one time Linus reviewed a firetruck. A return to one's roots in a way
Calling back to OG LTT when Linus unboxed the firetruck.
Man this is my childhood dream come true. If only I could go back 30 years.
"Unboxing toys, we should do this more!"
Channel Super Fun: "Am I a joke to you?"
I would love to see Riley reviewing more kids' toys, Best host. Good job team
*insert “Can I copy your homework meme” here. I also imagine Nintendos lawyers having a busy day
ShortCircut really made a video about hot wheels, I love it
This looks actually way cooler than I expected, provided you have the space to play with it properly.
Hot wheels to Nintendo: hey can I copy your homework? Nintendo: yeah but change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious
"It was a good drift, Brent"
What a reference.
I'd happily just watch Riley play with hot wheels for the whole episode
Riley, the second gate is definitely also my favorite, even though my girlfriend isn't that stoked on it.
The hotwheels car knows where it is because it knows where it isn't 😂
2:21 "you'll find all this out when you play with me"
Short circuit is what this Hot Wheels lap would be around my tiny house
That is the coolest use of AR as a toy I've ever seen.

if you're an adult just get a car that drives nice irl. its a hell of a lot better than some AR crap :)
It would be cool to see more tech toy unboxings on here
If you guys moved into cool tech toys, that would be awesome. Especially with things like those lego robotics kits.
Lego Technic has always been cool, but higher tech technics would add to the cool
These toys you buy thinking you'll play them all the time but end up using it once. Just like the Mario Kart one.

Wait! Dads nowadays have hotwheels? My dad only had hot heels from walking through desert to go to school 😂
Unique sponsor choice, at least you acknowledged the fact that's it's a little quirky 😂

Returning to the root of LTT. The toy firetruck.
This is literally the Marino kart live one just with out Marino. Cool.
I first read "It's ain't you hot dad's wheels" lol
I think the Mario Cart ones do it better. It is wild how much faster it seems to be in AR than in reality, it's cool tech.
It feels faster and more chaotic 😄
@08:44 for the guy (with what sounds like an Irish accent in the background) reminiscent of the Late Late Toy Show - he will know what I mean 😁
More videos with Riley having fun!

You can also just get a real fpv car for about 100 dollars
So it's Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which didn't sell very well. So they wanted to jump on that bandwagon too. LOL.

wasn't expecting Riley's Toy Reviews
You know, you can get 2 1:24-1:28 scale proper RC cars for that price, like WLtoys.
Hmm, I guess a bunch of these and a few at night in an empty shopping mall could be a blast.
It was actually more fun watching you guys race in similar AR/MR race cars on that CSF video!
I don't know why, but it reminds me of a 80s movie called Manhattan Project with John Lithgow.
It would be interesting if you could play with friends on a more complex track with double or more gates.
This was meant to go up on 4/1st but got delayed. Riley could review a napkin and it'd be interesting
"am I drifting?" Haha.
How could they not call it a "Carmeleon"?
You should totally make more videos about Toys. We 40 years old with no children want to know on what we can spend all that extra cash.
No Android? No Xbox? Eliminating a whole lot of potential customers
I remember playing with Hotwheeels cars over 50 years ago
Hot Wheels' Sponsor stipulation "Don't mention Mario Kart"

It seems to be from the same company that made MarioKart Home Circuit
