    Thank you! This tutorial demonstrates features a "once in a while" Affinity Photo user might actually find useful. There are many tutorials demonstrating advanced methods that I personally would never use, so when I find a tutorial such as this I "save" it to my Affinity library. 👍

      That's great to hear! Masking is the trickiest part of Affinity Photo. Keep up the good work! 😊

    Thank you for another interesting tutorial. In reality it is more than a tutorial about masking per se. It also demonstrates the power of grouping, globally and selectively, to achieve various interesting results. Also, the little trick of using the shapes to define the area of the mask is something that had not dawned on me. Thanks for that as well.

    • @AffinityRevolution

      At the top right of the Layers Panel, there is a hamburger menu icon. Press on that button, and then you can change the "Thumbnail background" to Dark. 🙂

    Does this work in Affinity 1?

    • @AffinityRevolution
      @AffinityRevolution  Рік тому +2

      Yes. The only difference is that you make child layers by dragging the child layer down and to the right of the parent layer.

    • @ArtsyLadyCrafter
      @ArtsyLadyCrafter Рік тому

      @@AffinityRevolution How are child layers made in V2?

    • @AffinityRevolution
      @AffinityRevolution  Рік тому +1

      @@ArtsyLadyCrafter You drag the child layer onto the name of the parent layer. To see an example, check out this video at 4:39 in the video, ua-cam.com/video/PPNR4Xea9iU/v-deo.html

    • @ArtsyLadyCrafter
      @ArtsyLadyCrafter Рік тому

      @@AffinityRevolution Oh, somewhat easier but still dragging. I thought it would be a quick click, or something. Thanks!

    This is a great video and many months ago I came up with a similar method (using erase) to have multiple vignettes. Think of putting a spotlight on a few people that are in a team photo. Darken the photo, then erase a few peoples adjustment. Having said that, Affinity Photo is still sensitive to the order of doing things to get to the same layer set up. Hard to repeat, but the sequence of actions seem to make a difference. I'm saying there are still bugs.

    • @AffinityRevolution
      @AffinityRevolution  Рік тому

      That's true. The order of your layers is very important in Affinity Photo.

    • @pedropuckerstein4670
      @pedropuckerstein4670 Рік тому

      @@AffinityRevolution I’m not making myself clear - even if the final order equals what you did, the process of getting there is important. Making a mistake, undoing etc, seems to leave breadcrumbs which confuse affinity photo. I understand the theory of operations, I’m just saying the order of executing the steps seems to be important. Still buggy.

    Interesting enough. I get the group mask. How to use the group layer mask to individually control adjustments and pixel layers within that group?

  • @mike_qbik
    @mike_qbik Рік тому

    Photomator and soon Pixelmator is now far ahead for retouching and mainly for selections / masking then Affinity currently is. Like select object on Photoshop, Affinity even with the latest version is far far behind. Good they did fixed the Keyboard layout short cut switch after years at leat. AI should have been implemented in 2.0

    • @AffinityRevolution
      @AffinityRevolution  Рік тому

      I agree. I hope we get AI selection tools soon!
