This isn't EA, its the developer Capitol Games. They chose to no longer participate in the Game Changer program. The Game Changers have been shown support in other EA titles that they dont even cover. For instance Dice/BF2

There's literally a microtransaction that skips a majority of the game for $100
For those that dont know, it's called the hyperdrive bundle, and you skip to max level, as well as roughly 60 characters (I dont remember the actual number) to 5 out of 7 stars. Depending on the character, it can take months to farm them but for $100 USD, you can skip roughly a years farming. While it is useful for newer players, it is a complete slap in the face to older players who have spent years farming for these characters and their respective gear pieces. And as the cherry on top, on your home screen for SWGOH, the icon to buy the Hyperdrive Bundle is permanently on your side bar and does not go away even if you have everything in the pack. Atleast it didnt for me anyway. Also, while I cant personally confirm this, once you buy the Hyperdrive Bundle, you unlock the ability to but another bundle specifically for gear.
Not really the majority. It’s called the “Hyperdrive Bundle” and it basically gives you a 6-8 month head start. It’s still considered one of the better deals in the game. To get a brand new character (plain character, not even a legendary) right after release, you have to open packs to get Shards of that character. The average amount you have to spend to max a character is around 300 US dollars.

I played swgoh for years and loved it. I was almost entirely free to play; I would treat myself to like $20 worth of cores each christmas or something. I felt like it was a great game until recently. I was always able to get the legendary characters the 2nd time they came around. At least up until the last year. The game became more and more pay to win with general skywalker and then especially with galactic legends. Galactic legends would have taken me like a year to farm for as free to play. I quit the game because of that.

I've been playing swgoh for nearly 2 years now and you've hit nearly every nail on the head. I've been grinding first order just for fun, trying to get them all max level, but when Galactic Legends Kylo dropped the requirements malware insane. It's been 6 months since he released and I'm still probably another 2 months worth of grinding away from unlocking him. The game isnt kind to free to play players
I haven't dropped a dime in GoH for a few years. The only time I did was when they had crystal sales. Otherwise, I just saved crystals from daily objectives.

I remember thinking how cool this game was when I first got it. It’s a mix of everything. Then I saw the shitty microtransactions (up to $99.99 just for crystals!), and haven’t ever looked back.
EA has the formulas to make great games, they just need to learn when to fucking chill with the monetization, they could do so much more and honestly probably earn more money that way. But its infected with greed.

@@Tainted_Human if you wanted either GL rey or supreme leader kylo on release, the gear requirements were so high ridiculously high combined with having to collect tokens with low drop rates to attempt several repetitive that you could lose, it could easily cost thousands. Nobody could get either day one because of the poor drop rates on the event tokens. Ahnald tried on a livestream with 3 different accounts with 16k people watching and it took him a couple days to unlock them. And then you gotta spend money gearing them too

I gave up GOH quite a while back, the feeling that I could never catch up with the rate that characters were being released was just too great. I mean even Marvel Strike Force, which screams "give me money" doesn't make you feel like an out of date fossil if you don't pony up your pocket change.

You think a multi-Billion dollar cares about that? If on the off chance Arnold sues, it's an uphill battle against some of the best lawyers money can buy. Capital Games may be the Mos Eisley of EA Star Wars, but they probably make the most money for EASW. EA will likely defend their property.
IF Arnold wins, EA will likely throw a couple thousand to million at him and then sever all ties. Nothing is illegal to big companies as long as they have enough money to "convince" others what they're doing is justified.

I hate how everything is structured, it’s pointless.
If people keeps spending their money, they won't really do something about it. Battlefront only changed cause people were not buying into the micro transaction stuff, so they had no other option really.

Pretty good summary and good research, nice! :) Just know that 50k is a low flying Kraken, double that or more to get the real meat... oh man this game. Add to that there is a "Secret" whale channel where these people yell at CG to make it as expensive and as hard as possible for free to play players.

Galaxy of Heroes long term player here, thanks for sharing this issue with the other Star Wars fan bases. It feels like we are a small community on the outer rim of the galaxy where our voices can't be heard. For you and other BF creators to shed light on this matter has been very nice. We as Star Wars fans should stand up against this injustice and not let companies bully us and expect us to take it just because it's Star Wars. Thank You good Sir!
I'm happy people from outside the swgoh community are sharing the the issue with their followers, our community is pretty tight, but very strong and a lot of us still keep playing the game just because people like Ahnaldt keep making it somewhat fun when the actual developers fail to do so
I stopped playing after coming back from a break and finding all my progress and characters gone, forcing me to start again.
They might as well just come out and say “if you don’t give us all your money than your a bad person.”

Thanks for covering this. Dice got crucified for the launch of BF2. But CG dodges any criticism for their abuse and exploitation of the SW license in SWGOH. If it wasn't for the SW license this game would be dead already.
I'm surprised this vid is still up, the company could take it down out of pettiness because it has video of the game in it.

Well actually it's not. People need to knowthe difference Between the people who fund the game from the people that make it.

I expect EA to fund revolutionary games including: the Battlefield series, Titanfall 1/2, and a lot more.
@@turdblaster923 yeah, that's what you should expect from a triple A company like EA, but that's not what they produce anymore. The somehow screwed up WWII with battlefield 5 (for example, there still isn't a D day map, and the game is still broken), the Madden franchise has become straight garbage in terms of gameplay, in Battlefront it took them forever to remove the loot box monetization and fix the bugs, also, was Titanfall 2 really that revolutionary? The point is, EA was once a great game developer, but they no longer care about the consumer, but the profit
I play GOH and it's kinda hard to get anywhere without spending money. Some upgrades you need to complete in game challenges actually cost as much as $70. The gameplay and character selection is immaculate, but the push of microtransactions is disgusting and incredibly frustrating for people like me who just want to play a simple mobile team battle game.
I got a cell phone Star Wars game ad published by EA before this video started lol

I frustrated with hackers at BF V. Every room has it. They are everywhere. Dice done nothing with anti cheating. All the reports goes to trash

I’ve been playing galaxy of hero’s since launch basically and I have never spent any money on it. BUT MY GOD ITS SO HARD TO PROGRESS WITHOUT. I’m not even close to being able to do any of the missions for galactic legend Rey. So yeah, no money, no progress essentially.
so this might actually be the company targeting their largest supporting with bans so the sunken cost fallacy kicks in and they spend all of that money over again with a new account.
