    I was actually researching
how to correctly complain to school about a bad teacher.
This video was still helpful and informative.
And it also made me more sensitive and try to look at the problem from a teacher’s perspective.
    Thank you! 😊

Will Bowen: WOW. I really enjoyed your informative video, and it actually helped me out during my recent teacher-parent (+assistant principal +another teacher ) 😬
So this was pretty nerve raking for me, as I have no experience
But reading your comment made- me so grateful I carried this attitude all the way through the conference!
Thank you! (And I really meant it :)

what do you suggest a teacher to do when a teacher is being wrongly accused (the student has told their parent the teacher hit them---the student doesnt like being in trouble and is retaliating against the teacher; the teacher spoke privately outside the classroom door with the student about their behavior)

Under no circumstances are our educators obligated to be verbally abused. With that being said teachers have got to get on a level plain with parents. I'm always going to consider the teachers point of view beforehand but it is hard to find one that is willing to listen. My experience with educators is that they typically want a parent to shut up and leave them alone. I hope that more schools show this with an emphasis on listening to and empathizing with parents rather than how to shut them down. My children's schools have no consideration to my work schedule. Plus the amount of educating being done at school is being pushed off on us more every year. Teachers deserve respect but parents do to.

To any Parent that this applies to.... First know that 1. It is not all about you or your Child. 2. You need to learn "Self-Regulation"... 3. You are the sole owner of how you choose to express yourself. If you are a parent reading this from the Kissimmee saint cloud FL area, and this video sounds like you.. "Get-A-Clue"

Hi Will, this is wonderful advice that helps diffuse heated parents. As an elementary school principal, I periodically encounter these situations and now you have provided me with an enhanced handful of valuable win-win strategies.

Many parents are attacked by educators for going to board about concerns. There's no advice for those parents. But there are many videos for educators to "deal" with "difficult" parents. It's a conundrum, in my opinion.

@@Sally_Joe I think a parent should go through the correct channels. They should start with the teacher. Then if they arent' satisfied contact the building principal, the school board should be the last resort. Those parents who skip right to the school board are just trying to cause trouble, they don't want resolution they are on a witch hunt.

What makes me angry is the 8th grade female teacher I witnessed on zoom last year constantly rambling on about her personal life and problems during class time. Can't do anything about it. Can't get rid of them. They still get paid they still get their raises.

Teachers have feelings too you know .They are not robots and they are not firemen to blow out fires .There must be a better way to protect them from bullying like new laws for example .Its not my job to sooth every crazy parent who is unable to teach discipline and honesty and responsibility to his child .If they can be in class for an hour and deal with the students then they can talk .

I totally agree with you. Teachers are teachers because that is what they choose to do. I am so thankful to those that choose this profession, put their heart, soul and own money into making the classroom work. Unfortunately, not every teacher is as dedicated as you seem to be. Bad parents and bad teachers sometimes have to co-exist. I would say educating teachers and parents how to deal with classroom situations would benefit everyone, mostly the children. At the end of the day that is the goal right ???? Making sure we as parents and teachers we turn out a good product to the world ?

This is awesome! I have been looking through different vids that will give me an idea on how to deal with angry parents, and whats the same is the approach in dealing with them. However this video has really explained every single approach that has been used. Its purpose its effect towards the parents. Awesome! Thank you. Just one more thing, how about dealing with angry parents due to their child’s low mark? I thought of showing them evidences like no homework, their copy books are not well organised etc. but how will I present the evidences or explain to them what their child has to improve?
    Thank you!

That's really great of you to say, thank you! I'd handle angry parents the same regardless of situation. But, wait until the "Let's work together" part to haul out the homework, etc. At that point use it to get them to work with you.

whoa nothing learned from this video, i was hoping for more examples of cases where teachers have done something out of line like loosing their temper with a child, that seems to be happening more and more these days most likely due to all the staff cuts. Teaching must be so difficult in today's society! :()

Helpful video but the scenario at the end doesn't feel like the school/staff are supported as a baseline. The offer for the parent to immediately go and see the teacher with the principal in tow would isolate and catch the teacher unaware. Not the right approach. Parent still needs to know that the senior staff will support the staff in almost all cases but offer to investigate inconsistencies another time....not their and then! Also, the promise of sorting the situation so it NEVER happens again is totally unrealistic.
