  • In today’s video, I’ll be analyzing some real fire emergency situations where emergency equipment was used. A fire alarm saves a life, and then a fire extinguisher is used to control a fire, and finally a fire sprinkler system extinguishes a fire. I hope you learn something about how these systems work.

Nice video. Confirmation bias is a big problem when people respond to fire alarms. Many public spaces like a shop would have employees escorting customers out of the building in the event of the fire alarm going off. All of the devices in this video had to have some type of regulation to be installed which shows how fire safety has improved over the years.

Great video. I feel like 2 stage fire alarms should be used in apartments, so then people go numb to a standby alarm rather than an evacuation alarm. Please make more of these, really interesting to see this stuff in action.

In Australia and NZ we have some systems that address this. I live in Aus and a lot of apartments here have self contained smoke alarms inside them, but common areas are covered by the building fire alarm. There are also some systems that will automatically activate the building fire alarm if one of those internal alarms stays in alarm for a certain time without cancellation. In NZ there are also systems that sound the alarm locally in the apartment before cascading to the entire system if not cancelled

Great video! I bet that in a case where the fire would’ve not been in the wall the fire extinguishers would have definitely put it out. But fires inside a wall are very difficult to put out.

One time when I stayed at a Nugget Casino Hotel, someone had a hot plate that set off the fire alarm, and we all had to evacuate the hotel and casino.

Those who watched my videos in the fall of 2018 know I too experienced an obscene amount of false alarms and began to consider just not evacuating. The first time it went off, I believed it to be a drill as it was on move-in day, but several alarms later I also began to consider taping over the piezo on the 49AV in my dorm’s living room. Obviously I didn’t as that would be dangerous and felonious, but it just goes to show that so many false alarms will cause someone who knows to treat every alarm like it’s real to consider ignoring them. I do wonder if it still has that problem

This is why fire alarms exist some people think there annoying but they save lives
The people who pull them down when theres no fire are bad when people who pull them when there is a fire are good people saving lives
And false alarms are a huge problem especially when it happens commonly

speaking of Youngstown, the industrial heritage Museum has a late 80s Simplex system--possibly a 4002 with 2098 "wiffleball" smoke detectors and 4251-20s as the initiating devices, signals are 2903s with 2901-9806/9833 horns.

As my school literally just had a fire overnight, due to a ceiling fan fire, a smoke detector activated and got the FD there quickly. Put out the small fire.

Hindsight is 20/20, and I don't want to shit on the security guy too much, but I'd like to think I'd activate the pull station and start evacuation and the trucks rolling, and then start taking care of business.
