this is cool, I remember when Amtrak started but did not ride until the 80's My parents worked for Frisco RR, who did not join because they no longer had any passenger trains. I grew up riding trains everywhere on Dad's free pass, he died in 1973 so never got to ride them. But Mom and I did a few times. I started long distance travel in early 20's and have not stopped. Have some planned this summer. Glad you are restoring the daily service on LD, makes it easier to plan trips. And I have made friends among the crew on various trains, usually the conductor because my maternal grandpa and his brothers were conductors and Mom used to help him with all of his paperwork. Not much now, with the scanning. I have been collecting punch marks for last couple of years since I found out they still carry them. I visited the 40th display train , not sure if there will be one this year, but have t-shirt ordered for 50th. Congrats, Amtrak on a job well done and I love riding trains, so long may they roll.

Great video Matt! Would be cool to see a history video talking about why certain paint schemes were chosen and some of the behind the scenes of the human and political interactions and interfacing of each Era and each phase.
3:08 It is mentioned a bunch of times, especially in other videos that Amtrak is looking to “better tie the schemes together” again to get rid of a disjointed look. I’ll tell you one step closer to doing that. Take the Viewliner IIs and put them in Phase VI. It was the stupidest idea to put them in Phase III, especially when they’re to be used in conjunction with other cars already in Phase VI. With a rumor of putting everything in Phase VII, it’ll take time, so for now I don’t think it takes much to put them into Phase VI. The trains would look so much better, especially the single-level long distance trains.
This is so cool. I'm very excited. Have you guys ever considered perhaps doing any units to commemorate essential workers throughout the pandemic or any units at all to commemorate and embrace diversity? Such locomotives I think would also be a really awesome addition to the fleet.

When comparing these, I think phase IV looked most classy and refined to me with the amount of silver and the matching pinstripes on locomotives and cars. When designing liveries, please don't just think of locomotives, but entire trains. The stripe levels of the Chargers and Venture cars of Amtrak Midwest already don't match. The livery should harmonize with both single deck (Amfleet, Horizon, Viewliner, Venture) and double deck (Superliner and whatever comes after) rolling stock. 0:32 Was Amtrack spelled with "ck" at the beginning or is this just a mistake of the newspaper?
@@MattsTrainArchive It seems the spelling is a common misconception, in my local city, the street signs pointing toward the station even say "Amtrack", I think it's a simple error that people who don't know much about trains logically assume track has a C in it- because it does until it doesn't, thanks Amtrak

AT&SF on the Southwest Chief and Heartland Flyer, MP/T&P on the Texas Eagle and Missouri River Runner, SP on the Sunset Limited and California corridors, Southern on the Crescent, IC on the City of New Orleans, D&H on the Adirondack, PRR on the Pennsylvanian, SCL/ACL/SAL on the Silver Service, Milwaukee Road on Hiawatha Service, NYC on Empire Service, GN on Amtrak Cascades, NP on the proposed Montana service, GM&O on the St. Louis-Chicago corridor, UP on a revived Pioneer and Desert Wind, B&M/Pan Am on the Downeaster, PRR/NH/PC on the Northeast Corridor. And outside Amtrak, FEC on Brightline.

Please work with Athearn and Walthers to release the anniversary models! And help out in modeling the Viewliner II's! It would also be cool to see the anniversary train head back out with Number 406 after the pandemic clears up, though I know for a fact I'm asking too much and there's no way in hell that Amtrak will even see any of these requests. I'm just geeking out over this news.
Sargent,All Amtrak Paint Schemes will be on all Siemens Charger ALC-42s and the 3rd generation of superliner derived bi-level intercity railcars that I drew. Also the new Phase VIII Paint Scheme that I colored in with Midnight Blue,Royal Blue,Red and Orange.
:) these liveries look so AWESOME :D . But you're missing the Classic P40/42 Phase 3 livery. :(
Can't wait to get these as ho scale models. :)
They're all great, but it was the "Pepsi Can" that really brought a big smile to my face. Considering how tailored it was to the specific shape of the Dash 8's, it will be interesting to see how a P42 wears it. Might have to sketch it 3D to see for myself!
Interesting! I’m exited to see how they come out!
Happy Birthday Amtrak!
🥳
Awesome new schemes that honor a proud history while inspiring hope for the future of rail travel.

Happy 50th Amtrak!
bel video della storia dell'amtrak - auguri !
Wow what a video thanks!
Nice paint schemes!
Love em!!
Wow congrats to you Amtrak on 50 years of passenger service.
Most likely a mistake.
@@MattsTrainArchive It seems the spelling is a common misconception, in my local city, the street signs pointing toward the station even say "Amtrack", I think it's a simple error that people who don't know much about trains logically assume track has a C in it- because it does until it doesn't, thanks Amtrak

Matt, this is fantastic buddy!
As a railfan... I’m so excited.
I'd like to see Amtrak work with the freight railroads to have a heritage unit belonging to every current named train. GN units on the Empire Builder, NYC's on the Lake Shore Limited, C&O on the Cardinal, etc...
The EB could also get locomotives in Burlington Northern's Cascades Green.
The CZ could get locomotives in CBQ, DRGW, and WP colors.
As of May 1st, Amtrak will have the most beautiful train paint schemes anyone has ever seen. The ones that caught my eyes were the "Dash 8 Phase III and the "Day 1" paint schemes.
Neither are out yet.
Class Video super!🔥👍👍👍
Cant Wait! Calling Bachmann, Athearn, Kato, Lionel And MTH now!
Congratulations Amtrak!
Great work!
