After considering all options available, watching your video (and others), I contacted Lisa Bauer about replacement covers for the Captain's Chairs and the Jack Knife sofa for our 2016 Fleetwood Class A. I decided to install them myself. I spent 1 day on the 2 Captain's Chairs and another day on the sofa and they came out GREAT ! I can't say enough about the quality of the products and service that we received from Bauer RV Upholsery. Our coach looks factory fresh and we'll never have to deal with this problem again. Many thanks to Lisa and the team at Bauer RV Upholstery !!
Thanks Mark and Sue for the video. My wife is a leather sewer at a high end manufacturer here in NC. I worked in the industry for over 12 years and then taught furniture manufacturing at our local community college for over 13 years. I enjoy watching the trade in action. Thank you for the info on their shop. They do excellent work. Long time subscriber.
Love the way you can make a fairly detailed project become so enjoyable to watch with sound effects! Keep up the good work guys! Glad you got everything fixed and upgraded!
Saw a recent youtube video that a fellow RV'er posted about his visit to Bauer RV Upholstry. In that video, he mentioned that Bauer is also knowledgeable about the footrest mechanism which many people have trouble with. So I called Lisa and sure enough, she knew right away what was wrong - a safety interlock switch that was for some unknown reason initially invisible to me. She was able to point me to it right away. Sure enough it was the switch and she is sending me a new one. Cant beat service like this. So professional. Without a doubt we will be driving to Bauer soon to get our Flexsteel seats reupholstered.
Wow, fantastic video. You will see this problem of upholstery in many videos of coaches for sale. It is definitely the way to go as it is your home. Great idea to do it entirely and end any hand ringing over future problems. It is part of the joys of owning a coach...your coach is approaching 10 years soon and repairs are to be expected in the interior. Your points on the drivers seats are well taken...I really like it you compare the more realist costs of replacement vs repair, not just the misleading base price.....Thank you...
If I never said it, I'll say it now, your videos are the best informative videos for people like me who are going to be retiring real soon and will be taking up the RV lifestyle. Thank you again for your time and input. One day I pray my wife & I meet up with y'all on the road.
Glad it helped,.........they were a dream to work with. We are so glad we also had the drivers & passengers seat cushions firmed up. If we could do it over, we would have also have the dinette cushion seat HEIGHT raised 2 inches when we had then recovered to make using our computers at the table easier!
Great video. Thank you for sharing this information. We could not wait as long as you did when the flaking began and replaced our “lower tier” peeling captain chairs in our Tiffin Allegro with a new “higher tier version” of Flexsteel before they stopped manufacturing. That was a great decision for us as we ended up with new more comfortable seating. We, however, never did replace our peeling dinette, sounds like a trip to Bauer RV is in order and meet Lisa. Continue your journey safely!
Glad it was helpful! Lisa will take care of you. Consider the new seating cushion "adder" to renew and stiffen your recovering, and maybe even add a few inches to the seating height to straighten out your elbows when using a laptop at the table!
Wow, it is hard to believe that they got all that work done in one day, Amazing! The upholstery looks great. Thank you for sharing that information in case we ever need it. So far our Monaco seats are holding up well but one never knows what the future brings. Mary💕Fred
Thanks for watching! We were blown away how efficient and fast they were,........but with the large crew they had, you could see they were ready for us!
Great video Mark and Sue! They did a great job! The captains chair and the passenger chairs look as good as new. So does the dinette. Dry nicely done. They do great work. I would use them too to fix my furniture too! Great craftsmanship! Thdnk you Mark and Sue! Hope you both had a great Memorial Day weekend! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Hope you had a great week and hope you have a great weekend and have a great week this week.
We live just down the road & didn't know about the company. The building in Wisconsin was a lumber yard. We will be costumers very soon! Thanks....love your channel
Hello , the undersigned has thoroughly enjoyed all your videos that you have posted. We ordered our Holiday Rambler Vacationer 36 WDD motorhome on a Workhorse Chassis directly from Monaco Coach back in February 2004. The chosen Anniversary colours are still impressive today some 20 years later. Our Flexsteel Ultraleather chairs still appear new but we did suffer some abrasion type damage that we accidently caused ourselves on the armrests of our recliner barrel chair. We will contact Bauer RV Upholstery to hopefully purchase replacement "skins". Again THANK YOU for terrific Emmy award quality videos. Don Lewis Eastern Ontario CANADA.
Impressive operation! I have a Tiffin Allegro who’s skin is starting to peel in places. I will definitely keep these folks in mind once it comes time to reskin my furniture. Thanks for sharing! 😎
Glad you liked it! I (Mark) actually produced this video. Thats why its not as awesome as the other ones! Sue actually teaches us all about places we visit,.............I just drive her there.
We love watching your videos Mark and Sue. I just found this video about Flex Steel on your play list. These are my peeps. I was born in Dubuque but raised in So Cal. My cousin worked for FlexSteel her entire career in their residential division. Fast forward…My husband and I are retired now and new to RVing. We binge watch your videos. Even though we have a class C, we’ve learned so much from the two of you. We will be driving this fall from So Cal to Dubuque for our annual family reunion. We’re looking forward to our big adventure and now know where to go when the time comes to reupholster our Entegra Esteem 29v.
Hey guys,....thank for the kind comment. We will be in Altoona Iowa again soon to have some stainless steel armor guards put on along the baggage bay doors along the length of the rig on both sides! Have to get ready for Alaska next year!
Thanks for sharing this. We are looking for a used Dutch Star Ventana (haven't found one yet that we like) so we will probably have to have the same thing done after a few years.
Great video! Everything looks wonderful. Our 2013 Tiffin used the same flaky material. The original owners had the front chairs covered, but the couch is terrible. I would love to have new cushion material in the dinette. Thanks for the video 😊!
How fortunate your are to get to go to the factory direct to get all this work done. On top of that, you got to video everything in progress. What an infomercial for them! They could not buy a better one! This will bring them thousands of dollars worth of business, because of the numbers of people following you alone. And, they will be satisfied customers, telling this story over again and again. There are some people who would just trade it in on a new one.
Trust me, if I could afford just to trade in, I would have made an episode of my new Foretravel Realm! If Foretravel wants to contact us to be their brand ambassador, we are ready!
Sue and Mark another great video. So well done. I aspire to have my videos as good as yours some day! You are an inspiration. So my story is I had a Tiffin 2013 allegro 38. I had qthe same flaking of my seats and as you explain it was due to a poor choice of fabric back in the time of the recession. I did contact Tiffin and even though the rig was out of warranty they did accommodate me and sent me a set of new upholstery covers. It was about $800 per chair for the replacement and then I would need to pay for the installation. We were at the Tampa RV show in 2019 and we were looking at the possibility to replace the chairs. The copilot chair was a little too wide for my wife and she wanted something a little more comfortable and one that fit her so we ended up replacing our chairs with a different Flexsteel model and it was just before Flexsteel got out of the business. It did cost a little more but we got all the bells and whistle‘s and we’re very happy with it. As an aside I still have those covers and if anybody is interested in buying them I would certainly oblige. Again thank you for your great information. Richard and Virginia. ua-cam.com/users/YoloRVadventurevideos
Lisa would have sold me the covers for $695 in the upgraded Ultra Leather. After I saw what was all involved, I would NEVER recommend someone doing it themselves. Needs to be done by an upholstery expert.
@@OurJourneyInMyles i agree. I would not have attempted it myself but a good upholsterer would be able to do it. But because Virginia has upper thoracic issue we replaced the whole chair
We recommend and sprung for the ULTRALEATHER which is still NOT real leather. The standard Halo "pleather" you DO NOT want. Real leather would cost a fortune. Lisa knows what will stand up to the duty!
It's almost funny 😅 . We have a 2019 newmar ventana. When we had the red light of doom toilet problem, your video helped me fix it, when we had a little slide problem, your video helped us fix it. Now we will be using your advice to get chairs redone. I don't need irv2 I have you😂😂. Thanks for the video's!!
Wow! We are honored to have been a help. Keep your fingers crossed you don't need to learn about or DPF Filter Change, New Oasis Boiler, Bedroom Slide Motor, Water Pump, Nox Sensor, or upcoming next week,.........NEW Black/Gray/Fresh Water Tanks and plumbing!
Yes,.......it is much, much better, MUCH FIRMER, but Sue still SITS on the ridge gorilla kneeling pad that now puts her arms in the absolutely perfect position. Hindsight is 20/20. You saw what the cushions and what the covers look like. If I was ordering it over now, I would have told them to add 3" to the stack AND MAKE THE COVERS LARGE ENOUGH TO WORK with the increased height!
Mark, I am a big believer in seat covers, our seats are still in good shape but I bought some cheap seat covers off of Amazon and just hated them. They didn't fit right and made the ride uncomfortable so I ended up removing them. This opens up a whole new possibility for us now.
No break in needed. Literally feel like new,..........much firmer with the new seat buckets which we recommend folks pop for! (Added $95 per captains chair and $130 per dinette seat)
Hope you guys are all “recovered” after that ordeal. With your new Captain’s Chair continue your travels documenting OJIM’s adventures to the “Captain’s Log” with Sue “Making it so”. Guess I was really “stretching” the Star Trek reference. 😝
I asked Lisa and she says it was all over the map! We have friends with a rig as old as 2012, and have read of folks with units much newer. The key seems to be if your fabric used was supplied by Halo,........you are doomed. This fabric was specified by TONS of RV companies for Flexsteel to use. Even the high end Newmar's and Tiffins!
Great video, do not think I have seen any videos showing this. With Tiffin’s, bob will generally send new covers but then you need to have them installed, but I like that you also had the foam refreshed. Giant Fifi’s, that is awesome. So you started the video in carabelle fl, can I assume this was a week or so after the Tampa show, we are thinking about leaving Tampa next year and going to Ho Hum or Carabelle RV park, would you recommend either of those parks and especially during that time of year? Safe Travels
We were in Carabelle FL in mid April. It was too cool to use the pool, but nice weather. We only stayed 6 nights, and that was enough. It is a sleepy area. Not a lot to do. If you can get FHU at Ho Hum, stay there. You would be able to hear the water at night sleeping. We were east of Beacon St. at the Carabelle resort which is WAY roomier! The main area of the resort is TIGHT for a big rig.
Just what I needed to know ! Our 2013 Fleetwood is in similar condition. Can you share the cost for the dinette ? Thanks so much , great info and video.
I bought a 5 year old bumper pull from a dealership. The couch was flaking but the dinette wasnt. I just told them to keep rhe couch. I bought a new cloth recliner for 350 to replace it. Much cheaper
Great results. Did Newmar cover any of the cost? I have a couple of friends who have Tiffins and Bob has sent them replacement leather at his cost. All they had to do was assembly and disassembly
Great job. But one thing that a lot of folks get 100% incorrect. It is not Flexsteel or Lambright, or any other company that was responsible for this failure. It pains me to say this, but it was Newmar and Tiffin and whoever had the issue that picks the covering fabric for the furniture. Notice that Winnebago didn't have the problem, nor did Newell or Prevost conversions. It was a function of trying to increase the gross by lowering the cost. I had a 2015 DS bought new and then built a 2018 DS and both had the same issue. I'm a big time Newmar fan but when they did something wrong, I called them out on it. Mr. Lambright told me in person that he quit doing furniture for Newmar over this issue. He said that folks kept saying he built a bad chair, and he does not build a bad chair. The fabric on the chairs is dictated by the manufacturer of the motorhome. This issue at Newmar was down to one or two folks at Newmar. One VP of which is not there anymore and the other with some authority has been removed. You know the saying Fool me once same on you, fool me twice, well they got taken to the cleaners for several years. Now I’m not sure who got the free trips or the new car but I gotta tell you it sure looks like something was going on under the table. Anyway, both of mine were redone and the sad part was some of the samples that were sent to me for the replacement fabric were in fact the same crap that was on there in the first place. I went with Ultraleather, the real product. No issues since.
You are 100% correct. The real corker is that as recent as a few years ago, the replacement covers that Newmar was sending folks was made from the same material that had failed in the first place! Well Bauer Upholstery has put that issue behind us! This issue should be added to textbooks for business schools to teach students what not to do, and how not to respond to customers and the on going customer relation problems.
Mark and Sue another great video. I'm beginning to develop a budget for recovering my furniture. Could you clarify for me? You mentioned the captains chairs were around $1,100 each then including the euro booth you mentioned $2,600. Was that including the booth seats and captains chairs? or $2,600 for the booth + $2,200 for the captains chairs. I bought DSDP 4369 last year and it had very little flaking, if any. Fast forward 1 year and I have been surprised how fast the flaking has progressed. I heard about Lisa and Bauer RV Upholstery and plan a trip. I didn't know if they did the disassemble and assembly too. Your video really helped me. Thanks
So we added the costs to REPLACE the seating “form buckets” on each captains seat, AND we added REPLACING the foam seating portion on both euro-booths. We also used the UPGRADED Brisa Distressed Ultraleather Fabric, WHICH WAS MORE EXPENSIVE. So with these additions, it was $1100 x 2 for the front seats and $1300 x 2 for the euro-booth which totals $4800. My advice to you would be to sit in your eurobooth, and decide if you want her to TRY to raise up the seating position a few more inches if she can with firm padding. She would need to know this ahead of time to add in fabric to the seat cover. Now that our seat is awesome & perfect, we wish it was higher! Good luck. Tell her we sent you. She will give you a free bic pen.
We have a 2017 Berkshire 34QS ( by Forest River ) ....our furniture is made by Wiliamsburg and is " flaking " badly - I should say disintegrating badly. I just got ( Jan 20,2023) an estimate to reupholster our 2 Captains chairs - couch and dinette - $ 6420.00. We are the orginal/only owners of the coach. I am extremely disappointed in Forest River and Williamsburg - pissed would be more like it especially since - when making a few complaint phone calls , I was told the peeling/flaking is due to our body sweat/lotions I/we wear ( which I dont) or the cleaning products we have used. Maybe people purchasing RV's from dealers should come up with an addendum to the sales contracts which lays out a very specific onus on many features of the coach - or walk away from the sale -( of course this will never happen). It is amazing how these people sell something and put it on proud display as part of their package/product offering when the sales game is on but when something goes SNAFU - the client is part of a leper colony. Hey Chan Man - I dont ever think I caught what your final costs were in the reupholstering job. ?? .. We enjoy your channel

This was a goldmine of good information. I'll definitely contact them for my Holiday Rambler coach. Now! I need new floors too. Rip out ceramic tile and carpet to replace with luxury venal. Got any ideas?
I think your best idea will be to research in depth the "Holiday Rambler" irv2 forums and various Facebook Groups to see what others have done before you.
Thanks so much for this video. I’ve been going town the “Halo Leather” replacement rabbit hole for my 2014 Ventana and this certainly seems like the solution to go with. The couch and booth are ok (at the moment), but the fabric on the Lambright recliners is failing. It looks like your fabric is the same color as mine. Can you kindly provide the color you selected for the Brisa distressed Ultraleather? I may just order new recliners in the same fabric as the captains chair covers. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Look for the ID Tags under the seats that I talk about in the video at the beginning. Our leather color and style info was: L97-80 / 535-3340 Desert Tan Brisa Distressed Ultraleather.
@@OurJourneyInMylesThanks. Ours is K26-82, so a different color. I’m sending pictures of the tags to Lisa to find the closest Ultraleather match. Thanks again. I feel much better now about getting this done right
Great fix. Honestly, this isnt as much the fault of Flexsteel as it is the fault of the RV manufacturers. They have the final say as to the quality of products that go in their coach. They historically have gone the cheap route.
Yes, you are correct. We said that in the video that Flexsteel literally used the material they were SUPPLIED. Seats turned out awesome,.....all is well!
One of many reasons RV manufacturers have a deserved bad rap, junky components, and they just pass it off on their subcontractors. Flex steel, bankruptcy was too good for you. I bought a used 2012 class A in ~ 2014, furniture was perfect, rig not used much by first owner, within 1 yr of purchase with my light use most all pieces were flaking. Forward to 2018 bought a considerably more expensive "quality" used 2016 Super C, same thing all pieces turn to garbage in ~ 3rd year. Both rigs I paid extra to park in covered parking, kept shades closed during storage. Meanwhile my 2013 car sitting outdoors full time, in Texas heat and sun, with black leather like interior shows little wear and tear.
The furniture peeling issues was a bad deal for everyone,..........the customers & the manufactures. Flexsteel maintains they assembled the furniture with the materials selected AND PURCHASED BY the RV Companies,...........not by Flexsteel. Thank God for Bauer RV Upholstery!
What should have happened was the person or persons responsible for putting out the faulty material from Flexsteel should be in jail, plus reimbursing every innocent customer.
This issue did go on for way too long and with way too many manufacturers. We are just thankful we found the awesome professional team at Bauer RV Upholstery to put that nightmare behind us,.....
@@mchurch3905 It has been too long ago for me to remember. I do know that all the NEW high end coaches now use this Brista brand of ultra leather in most rigs.
I’m surprised with the RV industry in general. It seems to be along the lines of the boat industry. Companies starting up and going out of business on a rather frequent basis. I can see why. The auto industry doesn’t have the greatest name but does on occasion recall their vehicles when it’s clearly a manufacturing failure and not the fault of the owner. These luxury items are not given away and I’m sure the profit margin makes many people in the industry filthy rich. Im surprised regulators who reportedly do oversight for safety, quality and reliability seem to be absent. I love the whole idea of traveling from place to place but if I need to be trained as a handyman plus pay for the privilege I think my moneys can be better spent. I tip my hat and wish all RV owners the best but watching all the issues that goes with this lifestyle isn’t for me. It’s like staying married because she’s a good cook…
You are correct in everything your saying, but if you having traveling in your blood it is the only way to go. We are on a 24 day cruise right now, and we will be reporting in with a few videos on how THAT experience is! Living out of a suitcase is tough!
I think the material that was used "way back when" had virtually no chance of lasting long term. The GIANT spread in the success full time/part time/have kids/have pets etc. All of these different uses stressed the material at variable rates.
You spend a lot of time selling the safety of OEM RV seats. It's not like they are crash tested. Having your shoulder harness attached to an RV wall that will explode on impact might not keep you in place either. Walking through an RV junkyard is eye opening.
I have to agree with you Travis. I am trying everything I can do to stay in one peice during this lifestyle. I too watched the "Where RV's Go to Die. RV Salvage Yard Lessons from RV Fires, Accidents & Blowouts" video that @RVLove did. Checkout: ua-cam.com/video/Vtt41vbgwn4/v-deo.htmlsi=HxoQljNQxKaoWPEY
I agree that Lisa Bauer and her team are pure professionals, indeed. I disagree with you, Mark: you are no schlub. Sue and you are pros as well for making repairs and upgrades informative, exciting, and entertaining. 💙❤️🤍
Thanks Raoul. It was a pleasure working with their staff and getting the great outcome that we are still enjoying trouble free as of today, 09-07-2024.
This is such a common problem and discussed topic. Your coverage of the background and solution was on point.
We wanted to show folks what to expect during the entire process.
Lisa is such a pro! She helped us many years ago and I'm so glad she is doing well. Mark and Sue, you guys always find the best! Looks fantastic!

Great information. Placed this in my future maintenance files. It's only a matter of time before this information will be needed.

The other option for folks is to upgrade rigs the minute the flaking starts to show up!
Thank you for the recommendation. We had our front captain seats reupholstered and bottom seat foam replaced. They did a great job.

Thanks Susan. Lisa Bauer and her team were so kind, helpful and skilled we just had to make this video.
I have a Tiffin 40 QBH, vert similar inside. What did that cost you to do?
$1100 per captains chair,.........$1300 per booth seat,.......so $4800
Great video! Everything looks wonderful. Our 2013 Tiffin used the same flaky material. The original owners had the front chairs covered, but the couch is terrible. I would love to have new cushion material in the dinette. Thanks for the video 😊!
Give them a call,......they do this all day long!
They do beautiful work. This was definitely worth the drive. The reupholstering makes the inside of the Dutch Star 🌟 look brand new.
You got that right. The oldest looking thing in our rig is the driver once again now!
@@OurJourneyInMyles 😂😂😂

Great info! Thanks for bringing us along!
Our pleasure Wayne! Happy to have you along,.....
Hi Mark, thanks for your time on this video. Just a short question.....did you stay with the leatherette or did you spring the real leather?
Keep your fingers crossed you don't need to learn about or DPF Filter Change, New Oasis Boiler, Bedroom Slide Motor, Water Pump, Nox Sensor, or upcoming next week,.........NEW Black/Gray/Fresh Water Tanks and plumbing!
wow cool congrats looks great safe travels
Thank you! You too Allan!
Missed the shots of you guys sitting and enjoying the new upholstery. Did the couch seat raise enough to make the computer work easier?
Yes,.......it is much, much better, MUCH FIRMER, but Sue still SITS on the ridge gorilla kneeling pad that now puts her arms in the absolutely perfect position. Hindsight is 20/20. You saw what the cushions and what the covers look like. If I was ordering it over now, I would have told them to add 3" to the stack AND MAKE THE COVERS LARGE ENOUGH TO WORK with the increased height!
"Ahh, made from the finest rich Corinthian leather", said Ricardo Montalban.
Loved that show!
Nice looking seats, I hope they did get it raised up some for Sue so it is easier to do the video editing.
It is firmer and higher. In hindsight, now that we know what a great seat feels like, we would have added 2 inches to the height.
@@OurJourneyInMyles Hindsight and more padding for the hind end, good pun.
Mark, I am a big believer in seat covers, our seats are still in good shape but I bought some cheap seat covers off of Amazon and just hated them. They didn't fit right and made the ride uncomfortable so I ended up removing them. This opens up a whole new possibility for us now.
The seats have been awesome since the rebuilding & recovering. This place is the gold standard for redoing the FlexSteel line of furniture.
Boy I've been looking for this I;ll be calling them. Thanks!!!!!!! 2015 Berkshire
You won't be disappointed. Tell them we sent you. They will give you a free bic pen.
@@OurJourneyInMyles Can always use a new pen!!!!
Looking good! But how do they feel? Better than before or do they need a break in period?
No break in needed. Literally feel like new,..........much firmer with the new seat buckets which we recommend folks pop for! (Added $95 per captains chair and $130 per dinette seat)
Great information..!!! Guys
Thanks for watching Dennis.
Hope you guys are all “recovered” after that ordeal.
With your new Captain’s Chair continue your travels documenting OJIM’s adventures to the “Captain’s Log” with Sue “Making it so”. Guess I was really “stretching” the Star Trek reference. 😝
Maybe a stretch, but I think I see a Star Link in our future.
Money well spent. It'll make it look like a new coach.
We wished we didn't have to spend the dough, but you are correct,........it had to be done eventually!
Great video. Do you not what years this material was used?
Great Video. Nice info.
Thanks Marlon.
Just what I needed to know ! Our 2013 Fleetwood is in similar condition. Can you share the cost for the dinette ? Thanks so much , great info and video.
$1100 per captains chair,.........$1300 per booth seat,.......so $4800 (Price includes all new seat cushions.)
I bought a 5 year old bumper pull from a dealership. The couch was flaking but the dinette wasnt. I just told them to keep rhe couch. I bought a new cloth recliner for 350 to replace it. Much cheaper
That sounded like a great plan!
Great results. Did Newmar cover any of the cost? I have a couple of friends who have Tiffins and Bob has sent them replacement leather at his cost. All they had to do was assembly and disassembly
Zero help due to age and we are second owners. Folks should always call LISA FIRST before having any warranty talks so they know what is up!
I just got ( Jan 20,2023) an estimate to reupholster our 2 Captains chairs - couch and dinette -
$ 6420.00.
We are the orginal/only owners of the coach. I am extremely disappointed in Forest River and Williamsburg
- pissed would be more like it especially since - when making a few complaint phone calls , I was told the peeling/flaking is due to our body sweat/lotions I/we wear ( which I dont) or the cleaning products we have used.

"1 inch taller than Quick Draw McGraw!"😂😂😂
Yes!
I feel much better now about getting this done right
@@bill149 Good luck Bill.
We don’t have Flexsteel furniture in our rig but am now looking for a captain’s chair with an hibachi grill built in.
Make sure it is 110v and not propane. I'm sure your coach is all electric, right?
THAT'S BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks.
Looks great!
Thanks Pattie!
The workmanship looked very professional. Does the new upholstery material come with a warranty? Great video!
It seems that the only videos on how to fix the peeling this faux leather but not one on how to prevent this peeling, not one!
