  • Recipe here: www.joyofbaking.com/Biscuits.html Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Biscuits. A perfect biscuit should have a golden brown crusty top and bottom and when you split it in half it should be soft and flaky and moist enough to absorb a pat of butter, which is absolutely necessary. These biscuits fill that bill perfectly.

I love this lady and everything she says is right on but honestly, she must be a magician. She never got a speckle of flour anywhere on her black dress. Me?... by the time I put the biscuits in the oven I look like I just jumped OUT of the flour bag. She's my hero!

I recommend not using your fingers, heat from your fingers will melt butter, use fork or knives as she mentioned, will make your biscuits more flaky

I made biscuits Wednesday and Thursday night my wife was still talking about them. She says she is not going to make them anymore because I am now the biscuit maker in the house. I used more butter(a stick) than normal and I wanted to slap somebody's mama they were so good. They went great with my baked chicken, mixed vegetables and rice.

Broke or rich makes NO difference. Homemade southern biscuits are THE BEST!!! They are inexpensive, delicious and fun to make. My only objection ( I ADORE Stephanie) is that I would never bake biscuits without using buttermilk. It brings the flavor over the top. Every woman born and raised in the south uses buttermilk. I hope that you set aside one morning a week and bake some biscuits! Your kitchen will smell phenom!!!

Perfect recipe, and she’s really good with her hands. I like the fact there’s no nail polish on her nails, no bracelets on her wrists, and a bunch of rings on her fingers. I say this because I’ve seen women with all that plus long sleeves both sweater and shirt giving a tutorial on how to make the perfect biscuit. I like to be clean and free of junk when I cook and bake.

I know this was posted more than 3 years ago, but I must say "wow", fabulous. I followed the video precisely as far as steps. As far as ingredients, I did substitute almond milk for the regular milk and Truvia Baking Blend for the sugar. I then placed the biscuits atop a chicken pot pie concoction I had made. 400 degree oven (uncovered) for 20 minutes and the biscuits turned out a perfect golden brown, and delicious. Thank you soooo much.

Fantastic recipe!!! These are the best biscuits I have made yet. I used salted butter and 1/8tsp of salt. The secret or trick is...after its all mixed up into dough...fold the dough 3x, then press down to desired thickness. Take your biscuit cutter and cut your circles. Your end product will be a very flaky delicious biscuit.

I made these biscuits using 1/2 cup of shortening instead of the butter because I was short on butter and they came out very, very good. also I only used milk to brush the tops with because it works just fine , theres no need to waste an egg, the milk makes them lightly brown with a slight crispy texture. these biscuits have a delicious flavor and were perfect with my milk gravy. I gave this recipe a 10!.

hauntedfamilyinAZ milk gravy?? How do you make that??

    • @chevydude658
      @chevydude658 7 років тому +7

Milk gravy is REALLY good on biscuits. We always make it with a little bacon grease, add flour to make a paste. Cook it a little so it doesn't have a raw flour taste, then whisk in milk in a slow steady stream and it will thicken up nicely. I turn the heat down so I don't scorch it. My mom used a little bit of hamburger, and once in a while sausage. It's a good way to stretch a little bit of hamburger to make a meal. My mom would put it on bread when it would get dry, or on biscuits. It's so good I might have to make some tonight! Fried chicken grease is good to use for it too. Drain off the excess grease after frying the chicken and then scrape the browned bits off the bottom of the pan. My mom never fried the chicken in a lot of grease so it wasn't like there was a ton of grease in there.

This is a good, easy-to-follow recipe. I used to wrap left over biscuits in a paper towel and reheat them in the microwave but I've found that they turn out much better if you cut them in half and heat them in the toaster oven. I stop short of turning them into toast.

Made these again this morning. I feel more relaxed with baking when I measure by weight. I've been making a lot of recipes lately where I don't use grams and I am definitely not as confident.
Only bad thing is knowing they taste best the first day. Barely an hour out of the oven and I've eaten three! And I can't help but staring at the remainder. Calm down girl -these are supposed to be for a late lunch today.
I don't think I have to worry about how they taste tomorrow as I can't keep away from them today. Have chicken pot pie planned this week and I have a feeling I will make these biscuits to top they are so good.

That’s where I exactly made my mistake and made rocks and discouraged myself from making biscuits for years. Do it by hand sounds logical.

I'm going to try this out. I see alot of different ways to this recipe online, but yours seems to be the best. I've been wanting to this this for so long.

If you avoid twisting the cutter they'll come out less wonky on one side.

You're right. These biscuits look good but they'd be even better going straight in and out with the cutter. Resist the twist!

I was really confused when I saw biscuits, here in the UK biscuits are thinner and crispy and get dunked in cups of tea, but I must try these, it'll make a nice snack :')

I think in the UK biscuits are what we in the USA would call cookies. This recipe is more like scones than biscuits.

I just made these for the first time ever and they turned out GREAT! I ate them with nutella and all the family loved them. I'll make them more often with savory and sweet. Thank you so much for the recipe :)

This looks a lot easier than the way I have been do it. I did it the same way except I was using Crisco Lard. And it takes a good bit of mixing. And I see that I am using way to much flower.

William Wynn: I tried making biscuits once - years ago, with lard - never again! They turned out heavy (they actually looked shrunken) and you could taste the lard - yuk, and they didn't taste like biscuits!!!
I now use Crisco vegetable shortening, which has no flavor. You really need to use a recipe when you're making these - it makes a difference. I've made biscuits probably hundreds of times over the years, and I still use a recipe book - I never bothered to memorize the recipe, like my Mother did! ; ) Happy baking!! : D

I want to say that I am still making great biscuits, I did another substitute, I used Splenda instead of sugar and it still taste fantastic. I love the texture of those biscuits you showed me how to fix. Thank you Stephanie.
