I like the implication that the Backroom Labyrinth and Dead God Graveyard exists near each other in whatever universe ENA is set in because of the leitmotif.
I remember thinking that perhaps it represents some feeling of unreality or maybe a theme to represent something hidden away.
it was the music for an extinction party, after all
death?
@@OliverBuckland i like the thought of that
@@OliverBuckland i like the thought of that I was just daydreaming about something like that
Moony: "Idk, seems like the Great Runas's bedroom."
Name of the background: *Dead God Graveyard*
Runas sleeps amongst his dead brethren
Thats fucking sad actually
@@gavindillon1486 so when runas sleeps its dead? Or?
In his house of R'lyeh dead Runas waits dreaming.
Maybe the great Runas has some skeletons in their... uh... closet?
Such a nice call back to "Backroom labyrinth" with those two repeating notes.
i can also hear Espial in there in certain parts
maybe moony went home and one of the weird green mist things or one of the mirrors teleported her there???
wait i thought that was a new leitmotif
omg i was wondering which other soundrtack had those notes and couldn’t understand 😭ty for saying this
Boy do we have some news for ya!
It’s all good until moony asks for your lunch money
Ha, it looks like I’m the best and you’re the worst. I wonder who got the chest hair?
@Sun beams at some leaves I don’t know, seems like the bedroom of the great Runas...?
It’s pretty lame though...
@Sun beams at some leaves Dearest chum, could I inquire how your physical form was able to reach this place in such a short duration of time?
@Sun beams at some leaves Can I ask for one more?
@Sun beams at some leaves Would you kindly reveal the wish you made to me?
If I were to describe the feeling this song gave me, it would be "the hero arrived too late"
the EXACT feeling
I have the same feeling, but it also says," Subnautica 3 OST plz"
for me it has more the vibe of "the hero won against a god and earned respect from said god"
So no one thought “countless generations of failed gods”?
i guess this is somewhat accurate, as ena arrives late in 2nd place race against moony
I absolutely adore the "Backroom Labyrinth" notes/synths in this, it's fucking excellent
feels so empty yet ominous.. as a fan of eldritch horror I can't get enough of this
I get a kind of ethereal, impossible-to-understand sort of vibe
Reminds me of something from Breath of the Wild
@@_unreel yeah
@@_unreel Now that I've seen that reply, I hear it now and I can't unhear it
As a fellow eldritch enthusiast, I agree.
It freaks me out this peice is called Dead God graveyard, implying the large floating shapes are not strange clouds, but dead gods
Also the doors seem to be gods, or where gods dwell. Runas is the only lit door, and the only one whose pillar isn't falling over.
@@gavindillon1486 I love the implication that Runas is one of the final gods left (or maybe even the final god, but I can’t be sure about that, because if you look in the background you can see another set of the ghostly figures in the distance, implying that this is only one of many graveyards) and that that’s the reason he is so hard to get to, is to protect him from what killed all the others. I’d say you could also argue that Ulysses is so “glitchy” because he has been Runas’s door man for so long that his mind is starting to break down.
wait i always thought it was dead DOG graveyard...
I mean, the clouds do look like one of the mannequins. Earlier in the animation, we see that one mannequin with the blue dress. It could be one of those "last gods" maybe even the last one, but who knows.
Doesn’t this imply that there’s something with the ability to kill a god
Notice, all the other Runas have their eyes closed. Only this remaining Runas remains.
The landscape in this scene is seriously something right out of my weird-ass dreams I had as a child. Especially the clouds in the vague shapes of people, outstretched like they’re screaming at the starless sky. For some reason that imagery was really common in my childhood dreams.
I find this strangely relatable, my dreams I can recall having had such a surrealist nature that this scene portrays. They all felt so empty, menacing, yet somehow comforting.
Same
Remind Me Of xen In Half life
Wish I had vivid dreams man the whackiest dream I ever had was a sort of "plot twist" where while I was talking to someone the dream's "camera" zoomed out to show I was talking to a FUCKING VIDEO
I'd be interested if you could describe one of your dreams (especially the cloud men)
The crazy thing about the ENA-verse is that there is so much deep lore that's conveyed through showing us rather than telling us, either by translating dialogue to find out an entity is preventing those who reside unwillingly in its domain from warning those who enter or by showing us a literal graveyard of dead Gods like the Great Runas, who were wiped from existence by an unknown event or abandoned the ENA-verse for unknown reasons which left Runas alone and sorrowful.
this sounds like something that would play in an art exhibit. love the backroom labrynth leitmotif!
one of oliver bucklands other songs (espial!) leitmotifs can be heard!!! i love this music sm
@@merryherb holy shit really ill have 2 listen 2 it!!!!!! genuinely one of my favourite artists rn
The land of the Great Runas and the rest of the ENA universe deffo have that art gallery feel.
this gives off the vibe of slow comforting panic, I don't know either
The gentle leitmotif... Oliver, you are a musical genius. I say this with utmost sincerity. Your ability to create not only an environment, but a feeling, is absolutely incredible. I hope it's alright for me to slow these. If it isn't, I'll take all of the videos down. I wouldn't mind. The people want this.
can't wait for the slow and reverb
Just subbed
@@Atitanasteelers Thanks!
This feels so... sacred. Like the moment the universe is revealed to us, the instant of final understanding.
i swear when the synth kicks in with the leitmotif? chills.
temptation stairway really was something else... this music confirms it
Dream BBQ will be something else else
I love this one so much it just makes me feel a certain way, like I'm so small and there's something so much bigger and more important than me that I'm discovering.
I love how grand the drone coupled with the extinction party notes make it feel
The drone is me throat singing, slowed down!
@@OliverBuckland oh that's cool.
@@OliverBuckland wow, really??! That's so amazing! You're awesome, Oliver! I love your music💛
I love how the soundtrack has improved so much on the ENA series, this song literally matches exactly what's happening on screen, apart from being so good on its own. Amazing job.
0:13 i felt nostalgic in a way at this bit, maybe because of the recognizable synth from your song backroom labyrinth, which is one of my favorite songs, and its also heard in extinction party. Nice
This song makes me feel an emotion that is boarderline undescribeable. I want to harness this feeling but it’s so slippery and only sticks around for a few seconds
1:25 You can feel ENA's blue side changing to yellow in this part
You really knocked it out of the park with these 5 songs. Definitely going to be listening non stop.
1:05 BOO give me your lunch money
It looks like I'm the best and you're the worst!!! Wonder who got the chest hair?
...where are we anyways..?
The music sync in the video is immaculate
True
this song is so beautiful. it sounds so happy, and yet so deeply sad. it's so bittersweet, almost like having the best day of your life, and then something bad happens, and a wave of pure depression sweeps over you.. it's really powerful
the wispy clouds remind me of that Brocken Spectre thingy. human like figure with outstretched arms and all that.
that gives me a feeling of a place where time doesn't exist, but there's everything from any time including memories and thoughts. you can wish anything there to fill this place with something and it seems like it isn't the only place to make a wish. also, I love how does not surrealistic part makes it so... memorable.
and honestly, that platform gives me old donkey kong vibes.
I honestly love your works, keep it up, it's amazing.
So, World Between Worlds from Star Wars?
Am I the only one who is reminded of Echoes of the Eye?
This has to be by far one of my favorite tracks in Temptation Stairway.
1:41
“I-I’m not telling you! You are going to make fun of me!”
*Shake*
*Creak*
*REWIND SOUND*
“HEUEHEHREGH!”
...
*CHEESE AND RICE MOONY!*
that's interesting that you called it a rewind sound, because i actually DID get that sound from mangling a tape recording
ALRIGHT!😥
I WISHED TO BE THINNER!
SO WHAT?!
@@jeandefreitasdelvalle5787(Shakes head)
This track is really beautiful, it’s made me kinda emotional for some reason, it’s really powerful and I hope I’m not the only one feeling that
indeed the piano part especially
I want this amazing piece to be longer, but at the same time, it seemed like everything that needed to be conveyed was encapsulated in these two minutes of pure bliss
this track COMPLETELY did it for me. everything about it sounds like something out of a movie and it left me in complete awe. you, sir, are exceptionally underrated.
This scene was by far my favourite in the whole animation, the amazing graphics combined with this music kinda took me out of the insanity for few moments, and made it something else entirely.
Your work is so diverse! It's really an experience to listen to.
This song conveys the feeling I get when I return to the crumbled remnants of what once were bustling online communities. The last dying embers of the first IRC room I ever wandered into when I was 8 years old, an archived forum, old AOL Instant Messenger logs...
The hallowed halls may disappear into the digital ether like so many tears in rain, but those of us who were there to witness the wild digital frontier will never forget what we experienced.
Wait... Does it mean the great Runas is... Dead?
But at the same time revive?
I see many doors that seems closed.
Or maybe he's alive, but the things in his room that look like him are not. Maybe his kind died and he's the only survivor. It would explain the "forget the past" thingy and him crying because something horrible happened to him.
@@toxdz_quack8466 I see :o
@The WinterWolfen good theory
I think that great runas might be the last of his kind, the last god, maybe he killed the others, maybe the others locked themselves away because people became to selfish or they didn’t want to bother making more wishes anymore?
"Rock dies till *int main(){* reaches *}* "
This moment was what made me realize that while this series is lovingly made and the music wonderfully crafted, it isn't just an internet odity. This really is something, something beautiful.
I'm feeling emotions that do not exist especially at 0:54. Excellent work on this piece. ✨
I'd *PAY* for an extended version that's more ambient. This song is so awesome and beautiful. I'd go to sleep to this every night.
Mee toooooo
This is such a beautiful piece.
When I heard this in the video I said "NOW I HAVE SOMETHING TO LISTEN FOR A LOT OF YEARS"
I love the bottomless sensation of reverence this place inspires, like you're stepping into a cosmos steeped in the foundations of things you could never hope to comprehend. Like the event horizon to a new realm.
I was looking for this the second I heard it in Temptation Stairway, this is awesome.
I played this in the car really loud, it's amazing
What an absolute masterpiece! When this played it gave me some chills but it also was relaxing to listen to. A sense of unknowing but a sense of hope. Your music will always inspire me to make art and draw my feelings onto paper.
BABE WAKE UP NEW OLIVER BUCKLAND SONG
my favorite track in the animation. anyone know any similar sounding songs at 1:26 ? i couldve sworn i've heard something like this before
honestly it sort of reminds me of the Minecraft OST with all the piano.
Did you ever listen to Solitariat by Oliver? I may be wrong but I feel a connection with this part and part of Solitatiat. It felt vaguely familiar and that was the first thing that came to me when I felt that feeling
@@neimu8508 Yeah, I felt some connection to the intro of Solitariat. I also felt a connection to Espial. I also agree with SwanDec in that it's reminiscent of some of the aquatic and nether songs from the minecraft OST. I was browsing through some old songs I'd saved and found this: ua-cam.com/video/IKIkrq4S2j4/v-deo.html , but there's another song out there that was less hip-hoppy and more in the mood of 1:26 and I can't find it and now it's like an itch I can't scratch lol
I knew this was made by you! The notes in 0:13 told me that without looking at the credits in Temptation Stairway! I love this so much!
Part of the second half sounds like remembering a precious memory.
1:11-1:20 is my favorite part. The way all the sounds compliment each other and fade in and out is so relaxing and inspiring.
Man, I just love this song, its so calming, and the context kinda makes it even better.
Forgot to mention that I would love an extended version.
I can still hear the " give me your lunch money"
I like how it sounds a lot like a beta Minecraft ambient track. It reminds me of the last part of Mice On Venus and the removed alpha track “Excuse”
This whole scene was breathtakingly, beautiful especially with the music.
This feels weirdly comforting and final.
the most visually appealing graveyard ever
This song sounds so gentle and calming yet haunting, i really love it
you're so talented I'm-
I love how you're able to bring completely different moods with every song
This makes me sad, but in a "staring at an unusually beautiful sunset in a car while leaving the house in which you lived for all your childhood life for the last time" way. Beautiful❤
The fact that great runas lives around dead versions of itself is kind of creepy
why is this so incredibly comforting?
this feels like the tpe of music i would hear while entering a void of nothing. peaceful/frightining/surprising. it just sound like i died but accepted it. this is so amazing to listen over and over again thank you.
The first video of Joel's I watched was temptation stairway, and the first thing that kept me hanging on was the music. It meant so much to the material actually being shown that without it, I don't think I'd have been such a fan as I am now. Much more of a fan I have become of your work, it's fantastic
I like how in the middle of the track 1:05 the sound goes down like the the first part of the melody fades away (As for my interpretation, i think it because as the first part of the track is heavy with anticipation, you can almost compare those distorded noises with the eco of the challengers longing for the Great Runa. But when we does find it all the trouble is finished (there is left only this immense landscape with our "reward" shining in the distance)
Makes me think that Runas is dying as all the dead doors (gods) have their eyes fully close looking sad with no path to them, whereas runas looking he’s crying
The bits of backroom labyrinth fit so well really feels like a cohesive journey
I really really love how ENA manages to create some sort of... not exactly but quite similar to what I imagine an eldritch atmosphere would be like, sometimes doing it even better than actual eldritch horror based media, everything is both familiar and strange at the same time, extremely dreamlike despite being based of an outdated digital aesthetic, it's an ever changing world full of contradictions that's uncanny in a beautiful way, a friend of mine even described it as "the same sensation of watching a show as a 4 years old being able to understand dialogue and images but not really the trains of thought behind the conversations".
And the music plays a HUGE role in conveying that feeling, specially in dialogueless segments like this one, with ENA just walking in this sort of floaty hallway.
As soon as I heard those notes, I was like... Oliver that you???
can't express proper words to describe how much i love these tracks!! especially love the ambient yet ominous atmosphere i get from this
The way I imagine Dead God Graveyard is a person going into a deep, dark cave filled with crystals and gems. The crystals and gems hold the souls of gods. The person walks in further and sees a small blue being guarding all of whats in the cave. The being is meditating until the person alerts them at 1:05. Then then proceed to have a conversation about the gods in the cave and how nothing lasts forever. Then it just fades. The piano notes is the blue being and the small twinkling notes is the person talking at 1:07. Anyways I really love your music! Keep up the great work!
“All the RUN-AS, has been expended…unending rot is left unchecked”
All servers except for one is offline
definitely some hidden lore vibes with this one chief
listen closely, and also wav, spectrogram, linear
Thank you! Your music is incredable!
I love the little part at 1:07. That distant little twinkling sound is so pretty and whimsical. I could listen to it forever. :)
Thank you for making these.
I am absolutely in LOVE with your music!! my gosh! it’s so unique I can’t describe it, every detail and synth you use in your music is just fantastic. you are extremely underrated and deserve so much more recognition! I’m such a huge fan of your work
The song makes me worried.
The song name plus the visual storytelling makes me think that there is a dire conflict that the characters are either unaware of or they just accept and move on.
I wouldn't want anything to go wrong with these characters, I love them too much.
It's so peaceful.. but in a creepy way. I love it!
the boop beep boops scattered throughout the song give me so much joy
“Boo. Gimme your lunch money.”
reminds me of Heptapod B
Okay, I have to admit that I totally listened to that before writing this. I adore that film & the soundtrack.
oliver, im so glad ive found your music recently. this track cannot be put into words. i feel unworthy of being able to listen to it. thank you
This is giving me Minecraft end vibes and I’m here for it
So soft, so full, I love it
The song is way sadder when you know that this is the last time we will see this Ena
Your work is absolutely stunning
I love love love your instrumental music it’s just so PERFECT AND A DRUG TO LISTEN TOO
Brilliant composer, brilliant composition.
underrated song that i've been searching for years.
We need an extended beginning before moony shows up, best bit for sure
The animation, the enviroment, and the music leave me with a sense of wonder I haven't felt in a long time. Love it
I just love this type of music, it just feels oddly nuetral and even slightly unsettling, and I just love the surreal feeling i get listening to it. Keep up the good work my guy!
The Dead God Graveyard. A place meant to be sealed away for years and years, and eventually was forgotten, until a single soul gazed upon it. Viewing the gravestones of every god in existence, their doors shut and pillars falling over. All that remained was 1. A deity amongst the mortals.
There is something with This landscape that reminds me of something I've already seen
from 1:05 on, the song gives me very comforting, ethereal vibes. Like the feeling you get listening to Adventure Zone while someone is monologuing. Like the song is saying something profound and maybe unbearably sad to you, but it's still something you need to hear.
Joel was a genius to include you to make most the BGM for this Ena Episode 😌
The person who disliked did not get a wish from the great Runas
Your music is wonderful I love to listen to it while I draw and paint
I absolutely love this kind of music.
