I always wondered how a bottom unloader worked. I worked on a couple farms that had top unloaders so I knew how they were. Back in the day when I was milking I had a round barn that had an 8 by 45 wooden silo in the middle. I hand pitched that one.

Liked your video back in 1960 my dad had a 50 foot ao smith harvestore built it had 2 big electric motors one for the unloader also had a 50 foot auger that took the sileage out to the cows in the feedlot the auger was under a covered roof this was in Indiana
I used to work for a farm with 16 harvestore silos.. they had a guy who did some modifications to the chains. By taking some hooks out and some paddles off the chains. So there was room for the feed to fall into and the cutter chain. Made sure there was different hooks in different places. I used three silos at once and in 8 minutes I'd have 10,000 pounds of hayledge in the mixer. Never once did I have to put the wrench on to help the unloader move. It was awesome. You most definitely put some money into your unloader. They are nice when they work. But they are super expensive. Glad I don't pay for that bill you have from those parts. ☺️
We used to put haylage in it. It was a lot more expensive then. Since we put earlage in it, we only have to replace the chains every 6 to 8 years, so it's not near as expensive as it used to be

Memories flooding back , we had , empty since 2011 a 110/25 silo Dad pulled those ugly things a lot Silage pit eliminated them here Dad actually died working on it , digger chain climbed up , no matter what we did , cut a hole in the side to try and bring her down Stress , and probably lack of sleep and brute strength , he milked his cows , at 3:00am and came for breakfast around 7 , had a Power Nap and never woke up again. I was 21 , still milking cows , 200 or so April /8/2011 We emptied that silo and been empty since. Roof was a mess. The click click click advance sound the arm makes.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. Glad to hear you were able to keep the farm going. I lost my dad to cancer in 1986. I was 14.
