not sure if you guys caught on, but the stepmother/nurse was never in the house with su-mi and the father. every scene you see of su-yeon and the stepmom in the house was just su-mi herself. that's why when the uncle/aunt came to visit, they were so disturbed by su-mi's rambling about a past event that had never occurred. if you watch the film back, there are many moments that seemed a bit odd from the father, like at the dinner table, he completely ignores the stepmom (actually su-mi) talking to su-mi and suyeon because she is actually talking to herself. he simply gets up and puts some pills on the table, recognizing that she is having an episode. the film was masterfully made and paced very well.
I love this movie so much. Great twist, beautiful visuals, especially the music is a masterpiece. the Korean title is [Janghwa, Hongryeon], which are the names of the two daughters (in the movie, Soo-mi/Soo-yeon) and mean rose and lotus respectively. This movie is based on a classic novel from the Joseon Dynasty. And the novel is based on a real murder case. Real incident: In 1656, two daughters died. The father and stepmother says, they scolded the first daughter for getting pregnant out of wedlock and having an abortion, so she committed suicide. Then, the second daughter died following her. The investigation revealed that the first daughter had never been pregnant and the evidence of the abortion was a fake made by the stepmother using rat skin. The stepmother after remarried and had two sons. However, the stepmother hated the two daughters because the priority for inheritance rights was given to the two daughters. Then, when the father tries to make marry his daughters, stepmother decides to create fake evidence to prevent his wealth from decreasing. (The two daughters inherits the property brought by their biological mother when their marries.) (The property she brought with her when she got married was at least $1.44 million.) When the father sees this fake evidence, he gets very angry and decides to kill the first daughter. So he orders his sons to throw her into the river and drown her. When the second daughter sees this, she drowns herself in the river. The father is exiled for this incident, and the stepmother and two sons are sentenced to death. (the father was the head of the municipality.) Novel: The novel exaggerates the actual incident (the stepmother's hideous appearance, vicious bullying, the father's incompetence, etc.) and praises the judge who solved the case. However, the biggest difference is that the person who reported the case is the spirit of the two dead daughters. When he hears that the judges who were assigned to the village are dying one after another because of the ghosts that appear every night, a bold judge volunteers to take the job. He tells the two ghosts that he will solve the case appeases them. The ending is that the case was actually solved. and the two daughters were reincarnated and married the judge's two sons and lived happily ever after. If you watch the movie carefully, there are three major twists. 1. The younger sister (Su-yeon) is a hallucination of the older sister (Sumi). 2. The stepmother's abuse is also Sumi's hallucination. 3. you thought all of this was a hallucination caused by Sumi's mental illness, but there is actually a ghost in the house. What the director wanted to say is not 'Sumi is crazy' or 'There is a ghost in this house', but 'How terrible a catastrophe can be caused by a single moment of irreversible action'. I'm glad you guys enjoyed this movie. and My English isn't that good, so I hope you understand even if there are some awkward sentences.
finally more channels are watching this movie, so underrated in the reaction department. you should do more foregin movies, especially korean and japanese ones, very good ones you should rewatch this tho, you missed a couple of things and the ending plot twist
Thank you for reacting to this movie! It's my all time favorite korean horror. In the beginning, the doctor asked her who she thought she was 'cause she is suffering from a mental disorder due to the trauma she had experienced- she is playing all 3 characters in her mind. the movie made us think differently until the twist in the final act.
I love your reactions guys. Can you react to Jet Li's Hero 2002. Its awesome movie and literally every frame is painting and story is great. It have few fantasy elements like most of Chinese movies that have combat in it but its a lot less then other and you'll enjoy it i believe

곤지암보다 훨 나은 공포영화인데 화재 덜된게 아쉽다.
You're absolutely right. It was so well made, artistic and creepy with amazing acting, all with a low production budget. I love stuff like this.
Please react to the two Korean movies, "No Forgiveness" and "The Chaser".
