Here is why Locals do not count for rankings: Rankings are more focused on wins rather than strict placements. This, in turn, means that losing to players you're not supposed to lose to will hurt your rankings quite a bit. Look at Sparg0 getting 9th in the 2024.1 rankings for a prime example of that. The tournaments he won, he was supposed to win. And he had a LOT of losses to players he wasn't supposed to lose to, which hurt him quite a bit. So, with that in mind, let's look at locals. Top players attend locals for consistent practice, but if you enter them every single week, EVENTUALLY, someone's gonna beat you. That's just the nature of competition. But if a top player, like Acola for example, loses to a player that's unranked, that would be a MASSIVE blow against his rank if that local counted for rankings. And so, if locals counted for rankings, top players would stop attending them. They'd be afraid that, eventually, they would lose to an unranked player they fight every week and take a massive hit to their rank. If top players stop attending their locals, others will stop, too. After all, top players being there is a motivator for others to come and practice against them. And so, Locals would see a big decrease in attendance and a lot of players would lose their only source of consistent, offline practice. There are some other reasons why locals don't count, but the one I just described is the BIG one.
@@mrdragoon3344 that top players lose in locals ? Yes, several times, one that I remember because of the controversy was Ally vs Bocchi in 2019. But it's not that rare.
