Just had this happen to me on my 91 Camaro. Was able to take the cover for the optional light switch (like you have) off and put a finger under to hold it so I could get the lights off. This video will help a LOT, thank you so very much for posting!!
you are the man!! Couldn't find that blasted button to release the head light pull knob for nothing! Replaced the stock gauge cluster bulbs for red LED bulbs.
Great instructions. Did mine and I used a back out bit to remove broken nut thus didn't have to remove the dash cluster. Hardest part was reaching the release to with draw the light pull rod. Thanks for your video.
If you use a long torque bit screw driver it has a flat tip, easily push the button under the switch that allows for the headlight switch shaft to be disengaged from the light switch
Great video, I was literally working on this today with my son (he's 15 and a 1991 camaro is his first car). This video will save me a lot of time. One suggestion - if you don't have a pry tool to tighten up that platic nut you could use a pair of needle nose pliers to tighten it as well. thanks again!
That's a good ole fashioned reach around right there!! Haha, thanks for the video again klowny! I think my switch is going out, because when I drive at town, put putting around town, like 30mph to every stop light, the lights flicker, just the headlights. When I drive on the highwqy, they are perfect. I just put in the silver stars that claim to be a brighter whiter light, but I think they are getting to hot after 20mins of driving or so and they start to flicker in town. On the highway no flicker and they stay running, so I'm thinking the air getting in there helps keep the heat down, qnyways... Thanks for this video! Big time!
+klowny1969 I have a question, im swapping my cluster that has 104k out with another one that shows 101k. is there a way that I can adjust the odometer to show my current mileage of 104k?
How dare you suggest we do something as awful as getting our minds out of the gutter! I will do no such thing. Great video on this, sure is a royal PITA when that stupid plastic nut breaks. Good video for replacing the switch too.
klowny1969 so can you tell me how to fix my gauges, radio, interior lights that totally went dark? Fixed the fuse but still no lights! Sigh. I drive my 85 Camargo every day so I need it back working without having to get it to an expensive shop repair. Thank you! The dimmer switch and light is new.
And if you touch any of the metal around that button under there with a screwdriver or anything metal, it blows your gauge lights fuse. So always good to get the battery disconnected
Hey Klowny69 when I pull the knob to turn the headlights on they come on. But when I switch it to highbeams they turn off. What could it be? Thanks man!
@@klowny1969 yo, quick question did you have to cut down the threads at all or is it like really tight trying to screw it in? i can't get the nut to screw in all the way.
hey, one other question - I noticed your speedometer is pointing at 55 mph when the car is off. We have an extra speedo that we're installing (the tach on the current one thinks the car is idling at 5500rpm) that shows sits at 40mph while uninstalled. does that guage zereo itself out once you start the car up? One other funny fact - my son has the same color and year RS as yours. I'd say small world but I'm guessing they made a 100,000 of them...
Not sure there's really any way to install the switch from a 4th gen, but if you're after something more modern the switch from a early 90's Firebird might work. Just need to get the wiring diagrams and figure out how to mount it.
Okay I have a question. What if none of the lights work such as headlights,Tail lights & dash light. Radio works fine but none of the other lights work only if you hit the brake, the tail lights come on. I need help asap .
yes, I replaced one, but will check them all again. Phoned GM. They say it could be the lighter socket...as that can short and created problems like this with the lights etc....as it shares more than one fuse etc...sheeesh! Anyway, will give it a go soon and let you know!:) Thanks for at least replying...way to go buddy! Thanks!
OK so nothing wrong with cig lighter. I am told it could be a relay. Those go. Well will have to check that now. Sigh. I want my lights and tunes back!! I found the 5 am fuse had blown again. Sheeeeesh!
+klowny1969, thank you for your awesome videos. I noticed you had a switch below the light know , what is that for? My 3rd gen dosnt have one of those?
Actually you can get this without the number at Hawks 3rd Gen Camaro. Com. :) I had ordered 2 of them. Anyway do u know how to fix an 85 Camaro when all interior lights fail? Even radio won't work now. The 5 amp fuse keeps popping. If u have an idea what the 5 amp fuse leads to that would help both my mechanic and me as I have had everything apart trying to figure out why nothing has power. My car is the sport coup. No brain box on passenger side. Nothing on utube seems to help. Thanks!
klowny1969 yes, but any idea where? I have checked all fuses. Put in a new light switch. The 2 MO th old one worked fine. Unhooked the cig lighter socket. Still no dash, radio or interior lights. Wish I knew what to do next! Thanks!
Andrew Corona On my 92 it is under the dash by the brake pedal. Remove the cover where the pedals are and it is a black rectangular box that plugs into a connector. It has a round sound hole on it. Should be easy to spot.
Still very helpful years later thankyou, im 17 with a 1985 camaro for my first project car
Nice! Good luck with it..and don't forget to subscribe 😉

When I pushed the small metal button the headlight knob wouldn't come out. I got it out now, it was stubborn and dirty. Keep up on the great vids 👍

+Rodimus_Prime one trick is to use a drill to turn it up
+klowny1969 thanks how do I take it apart to do it? ive been looking for videos and haven't seen anything on youtube

Is there much resistance when threading the nut in? I have the same parts and when I try to test fit by hand the threads feel very tight not smooth.
I don't remember there being resistance..thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe
Great tips ! Thanks klowny!
thank you sir! don't forget to subscribe and ring that bell!

3 months ago I had a new dimmer switch put in. Now the switch isn't working again. Ever drop the steering column and change one? I'd like to see that.
Does this switch also control the parking lights?
I'm watching the video and my wife says to me, what the hell are you watching? Hahahaha

Yes the guage should reset once started..tgo has the stats on how many were produced..but yeah there were a ton teal ones made lol
I'm new to the z28 I have a couple questions like what does that switch do and how do you turn the hazards on?
Headlights..hazards on column, push in the middle
Genius klown! Genius!

Check your fuse panel first.
Same problem here 92 rs all lights work but headlights wont come on . is their a relay just for the head lights switch is new and new bulbs

Vicki k Gibson no relay for radio..sounds like u may have a short or bad connection somewhere
my 1989 camaro, all tail lights and courtesy lights are working. But my dash lights are not working
🤪 don’t be mad but you can replace a headlight switch by removing the dash pad and the four screws for the plate to the headlight switch
+klowny1969, thank you for your awesome videos. I noticed you had a switch below the light know , what is that for? My 3rd gen dosnt have one of those?
He said that switch is to run an auxilliary fan. That's normally where the fog lamp switch would go, if equipped.

What can I do when I push the button but the knob doesn't release ?
allen wrench not sure what u mean
Does anyone know where the buzzing sound comes from when you leave the lights on ? I want to eliminate that annoying sound
Andrew Corona On my 92 it is under the dash by the brake pedal. Remove the cover where the pedals are and it is a black rectangular box that plugs into a connector. It has a round sound hole on it. Should be easy to spot.
Klowny, if you were my neighbor you would have all my money from repairs on my 92 rs. check out my page and see the car. I would appreciate your input
This video didn’t show anything except after it was fixed. No help at all from these people, why should I call them.
If you can't figure it out after this video you probably shouldn't be wrenching on cars dude. This is simple.
