I get a lot of satisfaction from taking an old chunk of wood and turning it into a useful piece of art;
Something that someone will enjoy using for years to come.
From the time I was a kid, I always picked up a walking stick before heading out for a hike.
As much as I use walking sticks, it just seemed natural for me to start carving them.
I've been carving them, now, for years; and I've got to say, its the most enjoyable job I've ever had.
I've had the opportunity to make some really fun projects for folks all over the country.
But, if it hadn't have been for the encouragement of an old wood carver, known as, Mountain Man, I probably would have given up a long time ago.
He bought my first walking stick from me.
It isn't much to look at, but its the one that got me started.
He told me I needed to carve ten of them.
He said by then I'd know what I was doing.
So, I started carving!
I'm glad I took the old timer's advice.
By the time I'd finished my tenth stick, I'd learned a lot from all the mistakes that I had made.
I've got to say; I owe him a lot for urging me to keep on carving.
Mountain Man would come down just about every week to see the progress I was making on my latest
projects.
I really enjoyed visiting with him while I carved.
Today, I'm carving my 86th walking stick.
In his later years, Mountain Man spent most of his time buying and selling shed deer and
elk antlers.
So I'm making this cane in memory of my old friend.
The one who inspired me to #stickwithit!
Sometimes a word of encouragement is all it takes to get a person started doing the thing that he really
enjoys.
Thanks, Mountain Man! - Навчання та стиль
Your sticks get more beautiful every time I see another one.
I can see in 50 years time there being a collection of them in a museum somewhere like the Guggenheim, the Louvre, the Smithson or the Getty. I hope you have taken photographs of all the sticks you have made. They are definitely works of art and I am so happy I have seen them being created. Thank you.
Thank you that's very kind! I do my best to document each one.
I love the king snake walking stick and would love to have one made with the color of my pet king snake

Loving everyday and being thankful for who we are and being blessed for whatever talent we have and living in a wonderful country like we do .
Great story. I got my start on carving walking sticks from an old navy vet named Jungle. He had a 10 dollar dermal tool he got from harbor freight that he gave me back in 1999. He told me to just have fun and to date I have lost count on all the pieces I have done. I have had many people tell me that I do great work. So I find encouragement from your work and I watch your videos over and over. Your a great crafter. Keep up all the great work.
Thank you, Nadine! It's great to look back and remember what got us started. Keep on carving!
Amazing, marvelous and incredible. A giant artist full of sensibility.
