I know this an older video but just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make this. Makes me more confident in my ability to do this at home.
4years old and this helped me swap my transmission after it burned up 3-4 clutch packs! The locater/dowel pins on the bellhousing were rusted and had swelled up which held the transmission on. I ended up taking a long 2x4 and leveraging the differential mounts off the hanging cradle mount bolt and basically “rowing the boat” with the board until it finally popped out. Also my brake lines were very hard to reinstall. The hard line threads were messed up. They are m10x1.0. I took a thread file and filed the threads clean. Install was very easy after that. Also cleaned up locator/dowel pins and put aluminum anti-seize on them. I also had to remove my Borla exhaust with the mufflers. It was a fairly simple task with this video. Couldn’t have done it without it!
I honestly don't know how you don't have more views and positive comments. I'm guessing people are scared on watching a so long video, not realizing the detail you guys provided. This should save me $2700. Now I just have to spend $800 for torque converter and reinstall. Thanks again guys.
A lot of people won't even look it up, they'll just take the car to their local mechanic and pay a couple thousand dollars and have them fix it. This video is more for the do-it-yourself kind of guy. Thanks for watching!
Just put a window in the side of my freshly built 4l60 that i paid thousands to have built and installed. Going to order a built trans from rpm to match the rpm rear diff i already have and do it myself. Confident i can do it as well or better than the original shop did especially after watching this. Just getting under the car and looking, this job seemed very intimidating. Thanks for the great info 👍
and yes, the oem exhaust is bolted to the mid pipes right whre all the welds are. comes right off. Thanks for this real time procedure. Very nice instructions, guys. are you guys Corvette techs in your day jobs? Very professional steps.
Sub’d. pulling the torque tube on my C6 Z06 this weekend with my friends. This helps us a great deal. Especially the parking brake and brake line info. Thank you!
Great Video, Once the cradle is down an out, is the torque tube bell housing the only thing supporting the Transmission and diff until you drop it down with the jack??
Yeah, and you're not suppose to lower it down too much till you get the transmission detached from the torque-tube. If you lower it too much you can break the intake-manifold on the engine cause it pulls it back too much.
@@1018Video I know this is a year old, but I'm taking a shot in the dark. If you had easy access to the front (and didn't want to leave the whole car on 4 stands) would it have been easier to just unbolt the tube at the front and drop the whole thing? It seemed like undoing the torque converter through the access panel would be a hassle? I need to change an AT on one of these and, at least on paper, it seems easier to change the converter, AT, etc. on the ground not under the car. Or are there other troubles I'm missing? Also, absolutely great video. Thanks guys.
You guys did a great job ...I have a c5 Corvette I just fix my engine and my transmission dont work like I turn on the car put in drive does not move i put in scanner it don't read the transmission reads everything else i need help and on this
Yooo quick question so my car broke c6 as well it doesn’t make any weird noises I put it on 1st nothing 2 3 4 and reverse are all gone what could it possibly be what should I check for it leaked all transmission fluid while racing lol
The only thing that would’ve made this video more informative would be to tell us the bolt sizes I’m in the middle of taking mine out of an 05 and I don’t know the brake lines size

Well I'm glad you liked the video! And I'm glad it helped you! Thanks for watching!
Planning to do the same as the third gear in my 2005 is blown ...next weekend project
Excellent tutorial, unlike most stuff on UA-cam that just shows before and then shows it done without explanation. Good job 👏
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
For hand tools, a jack and some patience you guys did great. Not going to lie, I ran out and gave my air compressor a hug....
Yeah we kind of like to show the average person without much how to do things like this. Thanks for watching!
When you put in the new transmission did you have trouble getting the main shaft slimes into the torque tube?
This is the first video that I see and can almost do after seeing it. Good job.
Glad my video helped you! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video! Both did an excellent job.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it!
That was a excellent job by your self, i just did axle seal on my C-6 great presentation, and props to the Camera guy!
Cameraman here, thanks for the support and thanks for watching!
Just bought an 07 c6 automatic, and want to switch to manual down the road, this video will help alot.

That exhaust system would have seen my Sawzall at 0:10 into the making of this video!
Good job, done with patience and determination. I hope you were able to reinstall with no issues.
This vid can get you thru this job.
Keep remembering how much money you are saving by doing it yerself.
Oh yeah, a mechanic would charge a lot to do this job for sure!
wow, watched start to finish cuz I'm about to pull my diff. but I bought a trans jack to capture that 75 lb lump. and I have a lift! but I'm old! LOL
Should be a lot easier with a lift and trans-jack for sure! Thanks for watching!

Sounds like you may have forgot to hook up a plug somewhere.
Where you guys located i need a torque tube on my 2014
Southern Florida.
@@1018Video dang it what's the time frame on replacement or rebuild of it
@@donpetty8625
We did this pretty quick, probably 2 hours of taking our time.
Please tell me you aren't near Miami if so that's a little to far for me to travel if you guys work on cars
and do I detect you installed Z06 rear brake ducts? Cool!
Possibly!
What size socket did you use for the rear cradle
I don't remember, lol. This was a long time ago.
Question? Why did you need to remove the axels if the whole cradle is coming out I’m new to corvette
Less stuff to carry around when it's removed.
Great video! The only thing that might have helped is to have the car on a lift in order to save your back.
Yeah but this video is more for people just trying to get it done in their garage, most people don't have a lift.
Nice job, I hope to do my rear seal.
So when you removed the cradle … what was holding the tranny and doff up
Should be in the video, I don't remember lol.
Thank you sir
Thanks for watching!
So was this taken out of a 2005 I’m guessing? Since it was a 4L80 in it
4L60*
Do you happen to remember what size bolts were holding up the upper part of the cradle?
I do not, this was a long time ago. Sorry!
@@1018Video no worries! I just wrapped my project up. Built trans, built diff, and LS7 clutch

Nice. 😎 Sounds like something I'd like to get some videos of!

It's hard to diagnose something without seeing it myself.
How Much Time IT take you to drop and reinstall IT
About 24 hours including sleep.
Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching!
great fucking job. now i can pull my shit with confidence. good fucking work
Hope my video helps you! Thanks for watching!
why the jackstands so low, seems to make work more difficult than if you had a nother halft a foot of altitude.
I'm not sure, I'm sure there was a reason lol.
Well done. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Did the RPM trans fail?
No, I believe it's still going to this day.
Wait, you guys have a customer car? and no garage lift? Oh, I wish I could be there to help out with my jacks and stands. srsly.
Yeah we kind of like showing people how to do things without lifts and expensive jacks, not a lot of people have access to those things.
The only thing that would’ve made this video more informative would be to tell us the bolt sizes I’m in the middle of taking mine out of an 05 and I don’t know the brake lines size
