    Introducing the Less Paul

I played this guitar at the store and I was impressed by how light, resonant and nice they feel. I went home with a Gibson SG Standard in a beautiful silver color from the new line. That afternoon while playing the SG, I started remembering how good the Les Paul Lite felt. Next day I went back and returned the SG and walked away with the Pink Modern Lite. No regrets.

@@jonathanhudak2059 SG was great. The silver really sparkles in the light. The only thing is…I’m used to playing an SG 61 because of the thinner neck and the higher fret access. They didn’t have those at the store yet, which made my decision to get this one easier. I’ll still get the SG 61 once I pay this one off, and it will be the same silver color. In the meantime I’m really enjoying how light and comfortable the Les Paul Lite feels, and the pickups sound great as well.

@Tiago_007 hey thanks on that info I bet the silver SG looked rad! Would love to see one (and TV Yellow) in person. My 94 SG Standard(bat wing pickguard) has a fatter neck whereas my 2020 SG Special P-90 has the slim taper neck which I like better. Glad you're enjoying your new Les Paul!

Guitar prices have softened quite a bit lately. I was able to get my new Les Paul Studio a few months ago for $1520. I wanted this particular Studio because it weighed 7lbs.7oz. While it's just a bit brighter than a heavier one, it sounds great and plays really well. I prefer the sound of the lighter ones myself, especially playing in a raucous band, a little brighter tone balances and cuts through better. Still sounds like a Les Paul though. Standing with it for a few hours is delightful compared to my heavier guitars. These new Modern Lites look like a lot of fun. I imagine their tone without the maple cap may sit somewhere between an SG and a Les Paul and that's a pretty cool tonal niche to be sitting in, I think. I bet you could get one of these Modern Lites for well below list price at some point if not right away.

I think the best "lite" weight, affordable LP they ever did was the studio lite series in the 90s.
Still got a tobacco burst finish, natural binding, carved top, maple top, full thickness but much lighter weight by having a balsa core, ebony fretboard, and trapezoid inlays.
Just perfect. It's still my main guitar

It's a great option for somebody who's got back issues I really think they missed with not offering white,TV yellow,or cherry also it's hard for me to believe Gibson isn't making a $1,000 profit off each one of these if not it's got to be close not in favor of them discontinuing the Tribute for this so they can sell these !!

The first 30 seconds of your tone demo on this guitar are the best I've seen you do yet:

i don't think i'll be trading in my 2021 LP tribute any time soon. First of all i'm not a fan of solid color guitars, my LP tribute weighs 6.94lbs so it's not a heavy weight either, trapezoid inlays instead of dots. I swapped the volume pots for CTS push/pull pots on the pcb (easy swap and the necessary holes for coil split are in the pcb) and gave it a set of burstbuckers (with quick connectors) i found online. sounds much better in my opinion and even with the replaced pots and burstbuckers price added up to the tribute's price it was all in all still cheaper than the Modern Lite.

    Hi Trogly.
Not a complaint, but when you mention the color "Inverness " green, it always sounds odd. The correct way to pronounce it is inverNEss with the emphasis on the "n" and"e" instead of inVERness. Semantics yes, yadda yadda..
Again, not complaint . Love the show.

Hardwired cool kind of helps explaining the cost plus the veneer on the headstock helps keep the in place (I don't think all Gibsons have a notch for the nuts) the Grovers are a plus and the neck being on the wide side as you observed string spacing is critical when they reach the area of the pickups, the strings really should drape over the pole pieces center. Plus the width creates a margin on the side of the neck where one might experience pull off. All in all not bad

Curious whether these have a discernible ridge where the fretboard meets the neck. I've had a Les Paul Tribute and still have a Les Paul Tribute Special P-90. On both those guitars, where the fingerboard meets the maple neck has an obvious ridge on both sides. Even a $300 Pacifica doesn't suffer from that.

I recently saw one of these in a local guitar shop in my area that had a tv wheat finish and tried it out. I was definitely surprised at how lightweight it was as well as its smoothness with the satin finish. It definitely played better than most satin guitars I’ve played prior. The only thing keeping me from really wanting it isn’t really the price actually. I’m just personally not that good with single cut guitars as opposed to double cuts which is not limited to Gibson. As much as I like Les Pauls getting up to the higher frets is my Achilles heeI with those guitars unless I was every able to afford one of the Axcess models or even a regular modern. As a result I tend to lean towards SGs.

This is very much like a single cut SG in weight. The SG upper access is so great compares to any gibson single cut to be sure. The single cuts have their place.

I bought the cardinal red one. The color and matching headstock are quite striking in person, but I do agree it is overpriced by about $250-300. That said, it's a joy to play because of its light weight, non-sticky neck, and great sound. I can see this one getting played more than some of my other heavier, more expensive Les Pauls just because it's so grab-n-go.

I Thought I might not like it at first. But I actually kind of like this model now that I have seen it. I love the color and I love the matching headstock. I like the fact that it's a stripper model with the dot inlays too. I think I could live without the binding too. My best friend's first good guitar was a used Les Paul studio I believe probably from the 1980s. I'm figuring that because he bought in the early 1990s. It was a pearl white color and dot inlays possibly even an ebony fretboard. It was a cool guitar and his workhorse for many many years. I could see myself buying one of these. If I was in the market for another guitar and wanted a different kind of Les Paul.

At $900-999 this would be a cool buy. Even at that there are superior guitars from other manufacturers but people will pay more for less from an American manufacturer. A Les Paul weighing in as a SG is a HUGE plus for me (back issues).

I like this as a basic beater guitar that's always with you in case inspiration strikes. Lightweight, simple, no trem to worry about. It looks more "woody" than some of the ESP LTD single-cut models I've tried. I wish Gibson would come out with some darker colours though... feels like they do anything to keep the cheaper models away from the Custom look.

AMS used to create this guitar as a Les Paul Classic Lite. Now that had 57 Classic Pickups and a flame maple top available in black or burst for $2K. So this with stripped down paint and different pickups, I think seems fair. I think it being around the same price as a SG special seems right to me. SG Special does give fret binding. I am really on light guitar kick, so for me, this is a good Les Paul option. Epiphone muse is probably a good option, sure you could find Les Paul types for less. Michael Kelly has a light version for less with Seymour Duncans in it. I will say, Gibson pickups usually sound better than the lower priced options - unless they have Duncans or whatever.

  • @frankwebster9110

I love it. I have a special that is a bit too heavy at times and I don't want to buy into another back breaker, this one fits the bill. I like that satin type open pore finish as well. Mini grovers will get replaced 1st thing but otherwise it's a great little guitar. Even at that price, which is high, I think it gets a green light.
