I think Teach is a character who, while being smart, also takes into account that fate plays a role in carrying out his plan. It's like he knows that sometimes things shouldn't be forced and that fate has a greater desire for something else to happen. I say this because of his official introduction as Blackbeard in Jaya, where when Van Auger asks why Laffitte isn't in town, Teach replies "That doesn't sound like you Auger. If he gets lost, it shouldn't be it a kind of fate.". Hell, he didn't even plan if he wanted the position of Shichibukai, but as usual, he let fate act as if it were his greatest friend. For example, when he had his plan to kill Thatch and get the Yami Yami no Mi, he didn't have the beautiful and complete plan in his head, but a scratch of what he planned to do. His plan did not involve handing Ace over to the government, he even probably went so far as not to think that Ace or the Whitebeard Pirates would want to avenge Thatch's death, but with the news that Whitebeard wants to rescue Ace from execution he plans to take his former father's Devil Fruit. The same thing is repeating itself with the Koby situation. Even knowing that Koby is a member of the Sword and that the plan to use him as a tool of exchange with the government will not work, he still wants to continue and see what fate brings him, Blackbeard lets fate act as it wants to act, so he can think of a plan that always rewards him.

While yes they are considered toothed whales that lists funnily enough extends to more than just whales. It includes Dolphins and porpoises. While they all are Cetaceans, most people consider them Dolphins first, and then "whales" given how they belong to the family Dolphinida. Orcas are actually the largest species of Dolphin on the planet, the name Killer Whale is actually just kind of a misnomer. Just thought I'd let you know.

I think you're missing a very immediate issue with Devon. If she turns into Jaygarcia she can give orders to the Seraphim, orders which no one (except Jaygarcia) can overwrite. The Gorosei have the highest level of authority with the Seraphim (beyond even Vegapunk) and we know that orders from people of equal authority cannot overwrite each other. So even if the World Government know Jaygarcia is dead and any orders come from a fake they cannot do anything to stop the Seraphim. As for Laffitte, he might have the Magic Magic fruit. Not as in possessing magical abilities but rather control over stage magic including short range teleportation (between boxes), turning himself and others into Pigeons, cutting people in half, breaking seemingly impossible locks etc.
This just came to mind but what if it’s actually Perona and Gecko Moria on the ship? As far as I know, we haven’t seen Perona again after she gave the keys to Coby so he could escape and it was implied that Coby broke out Moria too. Just an interesting thought.

What particular animal has all of this in common. An owl, that's right, I think Lafffittte's devil fruit is the Tori Tori no mi . . . . either regular model owl, or mythical model Chikap Kamui. The mythical fruit might be pushing it a bit, but you never know with Blackbeard's crew. Anyway, I personally think it's a regular owl model because we saw what he's capable of, and his power seemed too plain to be some kind of mythical ability. The wings and the stealth make it obvious, but the hypnosis also is a common element pertaining to owls. HootHoot from Pokemon is a good example, that has hypnotic abilities and when people generally talk about an owls gaze, they seem to mostly use the word hypnotic to describe it. He also seems to stand in the background and observe, which is another thing owls do. Then there's the look on his face, screams opportunist, and that's yet another characteristic of owls. However, on the other hand, there is no special enough qualities to Laffitte that elivates his DF power towards the realm of mythical. We all know that mythical zoan DFs typically has the traditional transformations and an additional power that doesn't pertain typically with regular owls. At least he hasn't shown this yet. That's why we can't really place him in the category of mythical, but everything else about his power screams Owl zoan DF.
I bet Laffitte / Devon will pick up Caribou with all his info together with whatever other stuff they get from Egghead. That plot has to go somewhere and this is a perfect chance for Blackbeard to learn about ancient weapons and attack Wano / Fishman Island later down in the story.

Honestly it seems like Teach is good at making plans, but whenever something that he didn’t plan for happens he either then relies on luck (which he has a lot of tbh) or he makes up a new plan with the same goal on the fly and, in a way, that’s why he’s so dangerous. I mean there’s the old saying: “a plan never survives first contact with the enemy” and Blackbeard seems to know this and it makes him somewhat unpredictable because he doesn’t plan for any changes and instead makes things up as he goes along.
This is completely unrelated to what I posted above, but I’m just really curious about it. When Tekking did that Angel Fruitcake joke it got me thinking: If you used a devil fruit as an ingredient in a dish, like a some random fruit dish, would you still get the ability? Because the fruit was altered because it was cooked but wasn’t destroyed so would it still transfer its power if it was eaten afterwards.

It’s so obvious what Lafitte’s devil fruit is and why he was able to pass the gates of Justice so easily. It’s the Tori Tori No Mi, Mythical Zoan Model: HATTORI. It’s the ultimate infiltration Zoan as he’s been saddled up with Lucci the whole time gathering and relating information back to black beard while having full access to anywhere CP9 and CP0 are allowed.
I mean, he does planning, which puts him ahead of most One Piece characters. Getting the right fruit to beat anyone that might hunt him down. Capitalizing on capturing a VIP from Whitebeard's crew by giving him to the marines. Gaining Warlord from that and access to Impel down. While also having the War at Marineford as the perfect distraction. Planning no taking fruits from whoever lost at Marineford, even though he seems to have know it would be pops. He is very good at anticipating moves from others. It really seems like he did think quite a bit ahead, even misusing his Warlord status directly lead to the abolishment of the system and his opportunity now to take some assets. He wasn't just waiting around after Marineford either, he acquired more fruits suited for his top players. He's not light Yagami or Lelouch vi britannia, but he's up there.
Funny because the real Blackbeard was more respectful to his victims than this blackbeard (altrough the real Blackbeard also screwed up other associates to gain advantages). Marshall D. Teach is more like Bartolomew Roberts in cruelty.

There's one thing one piece fans often lose sight of amid all the hype: this is a series about pirates. Infamy plays a huge role in how the legends of pirates play out. The stories about their successes matter as much or even more than the deeds themselves. Nobody in the series wields infamy as well as Blackbeard, which is perfectly fitting with his real life counterpart.

I think he is smart and is a good planner. And knows when take advantage on whatever opportunity he's given. Case in point: why did he join the Whitebeard's? For the Tremor fruit. That was a waiting game. Wait for Whitebeard to die then get the fruit. But when the Darkness fruit just suddenly popped up, you could see his shock then change to malicious intent. He wanted the Darkness fruit to but didn't know where it could be but he did for the Tremor fruit. Given the situation he had to change plans but I can affirm that he wanted, NEEDED both.
Blackbeard isn't so much a planner as he is a gambler. He gambled away decades of his life pretending to be a loyal WB crewmember just to get the specific devil fruit he wanted. He gambled with his life to invade impel down and build a crew with the inmates, then did it again to get whitebeard's power. Him even letting Kuzan in the crew is a gamble. Hell, him running into Law was him gambling to try and get road poneglyph rubbings. He rides fate and constantly risks things, and half the time things go awry (ran into Ace, ran into Magellan, ran into Rayleigh, couldn't use Koby) so he sniffs out a new way to play the game he's playing. Hopefully we learn more about him soon, like how he got the OG crew, where he got to read the book of genesis, how he knew he could carry two DF powers (or how the yami yami lets him), how he knows of Pudding's potential, and why his ship shares Rock's name, among other things.
I did acid and was watching this nature documentary on Disney+ and there was this scene where a killer whale was tossing this seal off of its tail for what felt like an eternity. Every time I thought it was over it just kept going on and on and on. It was one of the most emotional moments I’ve ever experienced. They are literally just bullies when they want to be. We all know that mythical zoan DFs typically has the traditional transformations and an additional power that doesn't pertain typically with regular owls. At least he hasn't shown this yet. That's why we can't really place him in the category of mythical, but everything else about his power screams Owl zoan DF.
And he's one of the most loyal to Blackbeard, I think he's Blackbeard left hand man and potentially sanji opponent.

Honestly it seems like Teach is good at making plans, but whenever something that he didn’t plan for happens he either then relies on luck (which he has a lot of tbh) or he makes up a new plan with the same goal on the fly and, in a way, that’s why he’s so dangerous. I mean there’s the old saying: “a plan never survives first contact with the enemy” and Blackbeard seems to know this and it makes him somewhat unpredictable because he doesn’t plan for any changes and instead makes things up as he goes along.
This is completely unrelated to what I posted above, but I’m just really curious about it. When Tekking did that Angel Fruitcake joke it got me thinking: If you used a devil fruit as an ingredient in a dish, like a some random fruit dish, would you still get the ability? Because the fruit was altered because it was cooked but wasn’t destroyed so would it still transfer its power if it was eaten afterwards.

It really seems like he did think quite a bit ahead, even misusing his Warlord status directly lead to the abolishment of the system and his opportunity now to take some assets. He wasn't just waiting around after Marineford either, he acquired more fruits suited for his top players.

His plans aren’t 4D, but I like how realistic they are. Characters like Aizen and Kenjaku who have everything planned out I have a hard time buying and ruin my immersion.

I think he is smart and is a good planner. And knows when take advantage on whatever opportunity he's given. Case in point: why did he join the Whitebeard's? For the Tremor fruit. That was a waiting game. Wait for Whitebeard to die then get the fruit. But when the Darkness fruit just suddenly popped up, you could see his shock then change to malicious intent. He wanted the Darkness fruit to but didn't know where it could be but he did for the Tremor fruit. Given the situation he had to change plans but I can affirm that he wanted, NEEDED both.

Blackbeard isn't so much a planner as he is a gambler. He gambled away decades of his life pretending to be a loyal WB crewmember just to get the specific devil fruit he wanted. He gambled with his life to invade impel down and build a crew with the inmates, then did it again to get whitebeard's power. Him even letting Kuzan in the crew is a gamble. Hell, him running into Law was him gambling to try and get road poneglyph rubbings. He rides fate and constantly risks things, and half the time things go awry (ran into Ace, ran into Magellan, ran into Rayleigh, couldn't use Koby) so he sniffs out a new way to play the game he's playing.
Hopefully we learn more about him soon, like how he got the OG crew, where he got to read the book of genesis, how he knew he could carry two DF powers (or how the yami yami lets him), how he knows of Pudding's potential, and why his ship shares Rock's name, among other things.
I did acid and was watching this nature documentary on Disney+ and there was this scene where a killer whale was tossing this seal off of its tail for what felt like an eternity. Every time I thought it was over it just kept going on and on and on. It was one of the most emotional moments I’ve ever experienced. They are literally just bullies when they want to be.
