Eventially something has to give that will make large numbers of people say, to heck with this. I'm living/working in another city region or state. NYC is unresonably expensive or you have to commute to it for hours every day from a hundred miles out. Lots of large businesses have seen the writing on the wall and are closing up shop for less stressful, cheaper surroundings.

Common sense would say firstly pedestrians have right of way, everywhere (within reason), at traffic lights they should wait). But even so, dont hit pedestrians #1. Secondly bicycles. Lastly cars.

I bike to work every day, been doing it for the last 8 years, and I learned to put up with this. Be vigilant, be on your guard, and put up with it. The BK bridge is a tourist attraction and unless you're riding on it at night, it's going to be crowded with tourists taking selfies. The 9th avenue left turning cars are trouble, no doubt about it, which is why I don't bother with the bike lane if I'm stopping on the right side.
Ha, he likes to show the crossover at the Queens side of the 59th street bridge. It was hell there before they had all those fancy bike lanes. You had to ride with traffic till you hit the bridge, now that was adventure.
I work in the city, and i must admit. People take their sweet ass time crossing the street looking at their phones, when cars are trying to make right/left turns.... the people are such assholes.
A lot of people think that traffic control cops are stupid but i think that they have one of the most dangerous jobs they risk getting hurt like run over, stuff thrown at them, or getting smooshed by cars crashing. I really think that next time you see one just say thank you.
