I love watching them. Ever since I started messing with GG codes in the early 2000s I've always loved pumping in random codes to see what crazy effects would happen. One of the best, which I unfortunately didn't document, was in Ninja Gaiden 2. It made the background in the first stage scroll like the parallax stage 2 background, so it was just chunks of the level scrolling at different speeds.
The original "Luigi moon jump" code worked like the hover code, however there were a couple of steps involved physically to get it to work. Basically, it was like this: - Use Luigi to do high jump charge after implementing code - Let go of Jump button to allow Luigi to fall (make sure jump is performed on elevated platform for full effect), then hold jump button before landing. - While holding jump (preference only), run in either direction off the edge of platform and don't stop. Instant airwalk!! **Side note** For extra fun, you can make Luigi into a UFO by doing the "jumping duck and slide" from the original Super Mario Bros. Basically, if you duck before running off the edge, Luigi's crouched form looks like a little "green Luigi saucer". I lost my book years ago, but I'm sure the code is online somewhere.
These videos always bring me back to the days of homebrewing Game Genie codes for games and seeing what I can come up with. Sadly I didn't have SMB2 to play with.
I am going to give that challenge a try. SMB2 is one of my most played games from the past and I cannot wait to see how it obscures certain places. Awesome video good Sir! Thank you!
Thank you for reminding me of how of much I love Super Mario Bros. 2 and of hours of messing around with Game Genie when I was a kid (which included pronouncing the codes phonetically as you do here!). This video made an instant subscriber out of me.
I came across your channel a few months ago and have been binge watching your videos. I think my favorite part of every video is how you attempt to pronounce the game genie codes like they were actual words. Keep up the good work.
hell yeah sweet video gruz! I happened to discover a code for Mario 1 while I was just punching in random stuff. OPENZZ: Mario is either on the left or right side of the screen, weird beeping noise and trippy colors. you dont get very far as the game crashes by the 3rd pipe in 1-1
Mario 2 was my favorite Mario game on the NES . I could beat it as a young kid . Mario 3 I liked but it was to hard of a game for me at that time . It needed a save option .
Some codes work differently on PRG0, PRG1. The Japanese version (Super Mario USA) is the same as PRG1. If you don't know what PRG0 and PRG1 are, the game pak and box have the revision letter of REV A and REV B respectively.
To add to my comment. I like your no nonsense commentary, would you be up for regular play throughs? I enjoy a relaxed background of good gameplay. Life can be unnecessarily stressful and stuff like this is a distracting world of bliss.
I'm intrigued by the commentary pacing/tone. It almost has a feel like, Bob Ross gentle explanation, mixed with kids movie narrator like "Milo and Otis" where theres personalization of events on screen.
They look pretty fun especially the pull stuff from the background code. Question. Since a code gives you a carpet, what happens if you enter that first door in the sky in 1-1?
Oh, hey, it’s LGR’s long lost relative bringing us more awesomeness in the form of Game Genie codes for the best NES Mario game. Glad you’re back, bruh. 😆
Nik Clint (Also known by his UA-cam channel name Lazy Game Reviews or “LGR” for short). Killgruz sounds remarkably similar to LGR whenever he talks, hence my comment about them being long lost relatives. 😋
Awesome vid Killgruz. Just walked my dog (named Yoshi) and sat down eating a burger with a beer whilst watching this. Time for some Luigi's Mansion before the wife gets back!
That magic carpet code makes me wonder what happens if you go up to that door you fall from at the start of the game and go in it. ...Looking it up, it seems somebody tried it and what ends up happening is you just go to the same area you're in, but higher up than the door.
Some friends of mine (3 brothers) had an NES that started glitching sprites on games, especially SMB2. So all doors would be birdos, shy guys would be mushrooms and your character could be anybody. Made for a funny time
Great video K'gruz. There's a game genie code for SMB where all enemies throw hammers. Have you seen a game genie code for SMB2 where all enemies shoot eggs bullets or fireballs. That would be a real challenge code!
Great video! I'd love to see what you can do with the Game Genie with the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB2 in the near future. Keep up the good work.
This game was a unique and refreshing take on the series. As a matter of fact, the first three Mario games were all weird experiences with the third game drawing directly from the first one but with such a different feel to it. Such pure talent! If only Nintendo was still what it was back then today...
@@TrentonDoesStuff. Dude... Give me a break! I can easily handle 21 FPS and with 4 sprites on the screen at the same time! I bet you can't process anything over.... ummm... wait... Where's my walker? Billy, is that you sonny? You were always my least favorite grandchild!
I like the way the original NES versions looks as compared to the SNES Super Mario All Stars version. I just picked up the original today and will be trying your codes. Thanks!
These codes are definitely cool ,i wish i discovered them back then, now i remember that i discovered a code wich will not only turn the game into B&W but also will glitch music into a pitchless version of it.
Its doing the cherry noise constantly because the tiles are all acting like cherries in some way, including air blocks. That's why they disappear. Should i try to look how to disable that sound effect, or you no longer care?
Had SMB2 been a more traditional sequel, we would get a unique follow up every 2 or so years. Think about, how many SMB games look alike?? Barely any if any. What SMB2 started was a Nintendo creative tradition.
And ironically in Japan the original Super Mario Bros. 2 looked identical to the first game except the difficulty was much higher and it has poisonous mushrooms lol
I remember back in the day I would waste hours creating game genie codes for SMB and SMB2 and testing them and I'd write what the code did if it was worth it. I had lots and lots of pamphlets full of different codes for many interesting and cool effects. I wish I still had those around. Plus I had many other codes for other games as well.
There was a Mega Float code for just the Princess in the original Game Genie codebook that I used to love! Combining that with giving all characters Quick Grab to make up for her shitty plucking stat and she was gloriously OP'd. I want to try Earthquake Mode though. It makes it seem like the planet is about to explode, Krypton style 🌎💥!
There’s codes to make the enemies move slower or faster. I don’t remember the code, but there is one I used all the time, where the enemies were extremely fast. It made the game much harder. The hardest level with the super fast enemies was the beginning of 4-2. Try dodging all those Beezos flying straight at you (with only to 2 hp) and not getting killed. 😂
I realized it's been 5 months since my last Game Genie video. Love making these, so look out for more this year!

I love Game Genie, PAR and RAW codes! they make the games so fun to play!
My NES use to initiate the ‘graphics enhancer’ code quite often all by itself, at random times, no Game Genie required. On multiple games at that.
It'd be awesome if there was a Super Mario Bros. 3 code that somehow allowed you to spawn Goomba Shoes, similar to the magic carpet code in this video
