Before you comment: I’m very well aware of proper operating procedures, especially pertaining to grade crossings. You don’t need to comment for the sake of educating me, and I certainly hope you won’t comment about it for any other reason. Hope y’all enjoyed this unique operation!
Don’t know why so many are complaining about the crew and operating rules. That’s the crew’s worry. You are just filming a really nice looking ALCO that sounds like it’s well cared for. Do they think you’re gonna tell the crew to blow the horn? Then they won’t let you film. Well done video 👍👍
Nicely composed film. In our collective rush to film video the way we capture stills we often loose sight of the train as a whole thing. I enjoyed the way you recorded whole train movements and the cadence of operations as a flow. Very enjoyable.
You just popped up in my feed....can't beat those old Alcos, or EMD, or....😉😎 Watched, liked and subscribed....👍🏻 Greetings from a Swede in Glasgow, Scotland....
Thanks for bringing us along on that cold, rainy, snowy, FINALLY the sun came out day Harrison! It's nice to know there's still Alcos out there earning their keep!
Awesome video! It’s not often somebody covers the northern division. The second engine that is up in Carthage is MHWA 2403. 2403 was actually on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad as their 4243 until it was sold to the Delaware-Lackawanna (another GVT company) in 2012. In early 2020, GVT moved it up here to Carthage as a backup to 2454. 4243 was also the last engine to be turned on the Tupper Lake wye. Great video bud!
Great video. Really appreciate you letting the whole train run past while switching. Reminds us of how slow switching can be, Thoughtful of the crew to clear the level crossing so the cars could pass too. It rained the only time I visited Carthage too, back in October 1985,
The initial action takes place on the old Utica & Black River, which once stretched from Utica to Clayton as well as Morristown. NYC removed the stretch between Lyons Falls and Lowville. Slack Chemical is on the old Carthage, Watertown & Sacketts Harbor, and the mileposts on that line are still numbered from Sackets.
What a joy you made me. Never been physically there but many days to search about that line & surrounding. Good to see improvment. The old signal box at the street of that chemical co. (Google Earth & street view) Have been replaced by the new one on other side of the street. Do you know if there is still some storage on Lowville track ? By the way if i´m not wrong the track have been cut betwen Castorland and Lowville. If so, fun / sad fact, with track removed after Lowville, there is a collection of cars at Lowville and turntable. Those cars can´t go south with removed track, nor north to Carthage, leaving Lowville Croghan with its train museum without rail connection. Not to mention former Beaver Falls pulp mill with trackage also to Lowville. Yep, nice tracks no exit. Back to Cafthage is there also some storage on Newton Falls line ? An other cute scenic line. The paper mill in Newton Falls have seen so much change in it´s history. Good ideas for a layout with tracks on 2 level, not to mention that mysterious wye on short bridge. Just wonder why a wood pile trestle for a simple wye ? NARCOA gang should ride that track that have zero potential before it´s too late.... Thanks again to show us that awakening of that sleepy Alco. Now she works so hard that she´ll still run in 50 years...
Is there some ordinance/regulation that doesn't require them to blow the horn or ring the bell (specifically for the first crossing)? I looked on FRA crossing reports and it does not mention any quiet zone. Not criticizing, just plain curious.
I don’t think it’s a “QZ”, I just don’t think they felt the need to blow the horn. All the moves are done slowly and cautiously and there’s very little traffic at most of the crossings.
That’s definitely a rules violation though lol. If that’s a public crossing, unless flagged, you need to blow for it. Sounds like the engineers just lazy.
Is it just me or have the rail taggers have grown up a little I noticed on this cut, most of the cars that have graffiti its not over the crucial writing such as warnings, regulation and identifying markings. The las time I drove a truck to NY "Manhattan" it took les than an hour to tag the crap out of the box. little bassturds.
Hmmm, no use of the bell over crossings and while street running and a lack of using the horn. Beating the gates at the one crossing that looks like it works and then all the others that do not work. They must have good insurance.

Old PGE/BCRAIL ALCO 630 You can see where the British Columbia ditch lights were removed
Not sure why everyone is critiquing the crew. I never saw even a potential conflict with traffic. That being said, if they DID hit someone, then they might be in some trouble.
This has to like driving a 1959 Edsel, just don't see it , its big, smooth with plenty of leg room. Smash you head on the dash an d you can just hose it off.
Not big on following operating rules are they? Forward headlight and ditch lights are off, then on, then off again, and I never heard the horn once. They don't get to decide whether to blow the horn. FRA rule 49 states that horn is to be sounded at ALL public crossings.

You’re a railfan warrior. Thank you for getting the train in the rain.
nice to see her still in her BC Rail colours albeit weather betten
Hey! Finally got some blue sky in the North Country!
Lovely, a classic Alco still doing the job
Gotta love those ALCO/MLWs!

Nice job on the catch.. very cool to see short line train
Nice work! Miss the CP MLW Century units up here.
Yes definitely very good excellent and I just thought they were an HO gauge wow beautiful.

Excellent Video as Always!
Totally fabulous video
Only you and Ryan (@weathered rails) could produce a half hour masterpiece of one engine making switching moves
That M; A& N engine is the smoothest sounding Alco I’ve ever heard
I’ve heard all 4 D&H PA’s and they couldn’t compare with this beauty
Excellent video ! The MA&N Alco C425 looks and sounds great. 👍
Nice!🙂🙂
Love to see a book on MA&N. Cover predecessor lines, where it goes now. Locomotives. Crew.
This is a great idea! Certainly a book I’d like to author or co-author. Maybe it can happen someday….
@@NorthCountryTrains try Morning Sun publishing. They do a lot of books on railroads
Roadbed in better shape than any jointed rail on pan am
It’s frigid in the capital district, can only imagine what Plattsburgh must be like.🥶🚂🥶🚂🥶🚂🥶🚂🥶🚂🥶🚂
It’s about three degrees right now, hard to stay warm when I work outdoors on Friday nights like tonight
Harrison’s well equipped to handle sub zero temps as a ski instructor

i loves me some smoking alcos
They didn’t believe in using the horn I see lol
5:24 Thats weird, it didn't blow horn at the crossing
What is going on with that crossing at 2:56? The gates were still coming down as 2454 was passing through!
I was an engineer for BCR.I probably drove that alco .
Bring an umbrella
The harder it rains or snows; the fewer foamers there to clutter up things
Id love to figure out when this runs so i can see it one day
As needed. Earlier in the week is the best chance
That looks more like BRC than BC Rail.
The Belt Railway of Chicago had that paint scheme if I'm not mistaken.
It’s BCOL… look up MHWA 2454
Prior to the red white and blue scheme, BC Rail used the green and white paint scheme that predecessor, PGE used.
@@NorthCountryTrains😆🤣😂😊
Belt Rwy. paint scheme is black/gray, with yellow end stripes .

No storage on the Lowville line to my knowledge . There is storage on the Newton Falls Line, but not much these days.
Hope we don´t go in recession but that could bring some easy traffic and démonstrate usefulness of those tracks.
Thanks again

Come on Blow the Whistle!,5:11
Was it worth getting wet for, course it was. Alco fanning knows no bounds.
Great Video, large customer gets mainly these rail cars?
Thanks for sharing.
Medium sized customer I’d say
2:50 Why did the mee-mool lights *(o)T(o)* activate too late? Rusty rail?
That's definitely an MLW built Alco

425. 4 axle, 2500hp.
Great video, it's too bad they cannot get more business
That's a lot of Milk of Magnesia in those tanker cars.
We gotta find you a chariot w/ no windshield pillars

Exactly. Is it a violation, technically, does anybody care, no
What's wrong with the crossing at 26:05
It won't activate it because it's old
I expected more smoke from an Alco.
It’s not working hard enough!!
