Long trains through the middle of a town would be unheard of here in the UK, if they did the public wouldn't move for them and wouldn't take a lot of notice of the police either! Great to see the parade, all the emergency services helping out and the happy people enjoying themselves. Merry Christmas! (Or Happy Holidays as you say in the US of A!)
It is now considered to be correct to say, “Happy Holidays,” but for most of us, it is still “Merry Christmas!” Or, in my neck of the woods, “Felix Navidad!” I live in the southernmost town in Texas, Brownsville, with over half of our population having Spanish as their first language.
The last public service running through streets in the UK that I'm aware of was the Weymouth Tramway. That line has been lifted in the last couple of years. I believe the only example left in the UK of proper trains (not light rail or trams) running along streets in the UK is in Bristol.
Another great video JT, this town is in my bucket list now, thanks to you. Happy holidays and thank you for all the time and love you put in all your videos, sir !!
That was a long, sweet mixed freight. I loved all the power leading and the two DPUs! I think this is the first CSX slug I've ever seen so that's cool. I counted 172 cars. I believe that's the correct count. Great catch JT!! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

I agree. It sounded like the last loco of the lead 3 locos in front of the slug, then the last of the 6 locos were not running. With the echo of the buildings it is more difficult to hear as well, the one in front of the slug #6114 and last in the front 6 including the slug as a unit, #2032 sounded like they weren't running. I tried to watch for the heat plume but the clouds and distance were preventing me to hear and see see which are definitely working and which weren't. I calculated 172 cars with 688 axle count, plus the 8 locos with a total axle count of 42, for the total of the 720 axles. I must have ADDHDOCD because this is the kind of stuff my mind just does on it's own - to do all the calculations in my mind.
That's the first Slug I've seen in use in quite awhile and I'm not far from the shared mainline between the UP and BNSF in western Washington state. I thought all of those were phased out and scrapped 12 to 15 years ago around here. Cool to see!!
I am in SW Pennsy, and what is now Norfolk Southern has one and the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad, SWP, shortline that runs pas my house uses it from time to time. It is a low speed track and a 2 mile uphill struggle out of a 90 degree curve, so the extra traction is needed. I have video of the train getting stuck on the hill. They backed it down about 2 miles and cut the train into two sections, taking one section at a time up past my house. SWP only had 4 axle locos at the time, but now has a few 6 axle locos, so it isn't an issue now.
Howdy JT! Wow that second train... just massive. When I saw how far back the DPUs were I figured it might be a biggin' lol. You have got some great catches the past couple years at the Light Up LaGrange celebration. How cool! The cruiser at 27:46 has "Purchased with seized drug funds" on the side. Best way to spend most of those seized dug monies - equipment for first responders. Specially in small towns like that. Well done and thanks for sharing 🤠

Thanks for this video, "Jaw Tooth"! I really enjoy your filming. Being the grandson of a railway engineer (my grandfather "drove" the Berlin-Brussels route for many years) I enjoy your posts. I also watch the Rail-fan fixed-camera posts, and particularly enjoy LaGrange because of the tricky road vs rails combination there, alongside the one in Virginia whose name escapes me just now ... this getting older business leaves me searching for names, etc that seem to hover just beyond my memory's grasp! But i did want you to know that you have fans in Canada, too! And as for this Christmas visit from The jolly old guy from the North Pole, my mother saw fit to name me Klaus when I was born in Germany, and when she moved us to Canada changed that to "Claus" ... and you can just imagine how THAT went over with my classmates! Fortunately, I was able to use my second name, though my "full name" remains on my passport, and I get to enjoy the silence when a flight-officer looks at my ticket and calls out , hesitantly "Claus"?
There were TWO Southern Pacific autoracks!!! What a lovely memory. SP ran two blocks from me for decades. Those tracks are now a local short line, the New Orleans and Gulf Coast, they were once SP MAIN LINE to it's eastern terminus in Algiers, Louisiana a couple miles down the road.
That second train was incredible JT!!! In all my 66 years, I've NEVER seen a slug before. Never even knew they existed, so was a huge plus to learn about those! Thanks for hanging in there for so long to catch those trains coming through. Until next time!!
Just a heads up for info- when Conrail was dissolved in 1998, the assets were split between holding corporations and then leased to NS and CSX. To keep equipment separate, equipment acquired by CSX was lettered NYC. It’s likely that car was purchased by Conrail. NS retained the PRR ( Pennsylvania RR) and CR reporting marks. I think as of 2021 all of the equipment now has CSXT reporting marks .
That was a great video, it has everything long trains street running and all the Christmas celebration . Wish my family could have been there. Thank you again.
Never seen CSX use DPUs before. I have only seen that out west with BNSF and Union Pacific. First time I have ever seen a slug too. I thought at first it was an LNG tender like Florida East Coast uses. The longest train that I ever saw was a CSX running north bound north of Plant City Florida. It had 8 engines on the front, no DPUs and well over 200 cars. Going to have to see if you did any out west shots when I subscribe. I was at the PIMA Air and Space museum last October and Union Pacific seemed to be running trains behind the museum literally every 30 minutes. All were well over 130 cars with DPUs either in the middle or the back.
Enjoyed your clip there JT, Nice one" Wishing you and all there a Wonderful safe happy Christmas from us all here In Worcester UK, God Bless you all. 🙏☃🎊🎉🎄
That train looks like a yard to yard mix freight assortment. I'll bet you that's why that slug was connected because usually they're for yard work. When I get to whatever yard they're going to get to I bet they separate all the empty cars and leave the slug and its mother behind.
Scott Appreciate you filming from another spot in the town, always love watching the the trains running threw LaGrange. Such a Kool shot at the beginning.
Holy crappola, that manifest had 7 powered units and its probably only half way through town so there could be some helpers at the end. I love long trains, especially manifests, so much variety.
My son lived in la grange, ky. This town. Me and girl friend had a steak there on the square and a train scared rhe shit out of us right out the window. Its a neat town the court house has huge spread oak trees and gas street lights all down town. We went north and crissed the river at madison.
After that long train passed, crowds looked like it was in Times Square
Yup, lol
1st train 68 cars and 1DPU,2nd train 5engines,1slug,2DPU, and 183 cars,3rd train 2 engines 13 cars
Enjoyed your clip there JT, Nice one" Wishing you and all there a Wonderful safe happy Christmas from us all here In Worcester UK, God Bless you all. 🙏☃🎊🎉🎄
Hi" Don"t think so,! @@shauntrailskinner9645
Great trains to catch but the parade was great too. Really nice to see small communities coming together for some fun
It sure is!
Awesome video Jawtooth! Great location! Great catches! Great parade!👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video JT! Thanks 👍 for bringing it to us. Tell all your family and pets I said hey. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Will do!
That train looks like a yard to yard mix freight assortment. I'll bet you that's why that slug was connected because usually they're for yard work. When I get to whatever yard they're going to get to I bet they separate all the empty cars and leave the slug and its mother behind.
I think you are right. I was told the slug is going to Osborne Yard in Louisville,Ky
I wonder if all those local/yard units are going to the same place.
Loved the cop telling the boy not to do that again! Wonder if he will listen?
I think it scared him. He acknowledged the cop with an embarrassed look
That cool a Cow and Calf unit you don’t see them a lot.
Awesome video my friend
Robert
Thanks 👍
@@JawTooth your welcome brother
Scott Appreciate you filming from another spot in the town, always love watching the the trains running threw LaGrange. Such a Kool shot at the beginning.
A fire apparatus parade! Tons of money on display! A big thumbs up from a State of Ohio Fire Academy retiree❤
Thanks for watching!
Holy crappola, that manifest had 7 powered units and its probably only half way through town so there could be some helpers at the end. I love long trains, especially manifests, so much variety.
As someone who's never really gotten into trains, I've never seen a DPU before, it's pretty cool looking.
DPUs are a fans favorite. Usually they are only on the monster trains. I got a train the other day with 2 DPUs in the middle working hard
Really Cool video Jaw-Tooth , great to see the locals come out to see the parade and SANTA .
Wow what a video always love watching trains in Lagrange ky plus that 2nd train was my favorite with all those engines 😊
My son lived in la grange, ky. This town. Me and girl friend had a steak there on the square and a train scared rhe shit out of us right out the window. Its a neat town the court house has huge spread oak trees and gas street lights all down town. We went north and crissed the river at madison. Messed ariund there the next day at the tobacco auction..
But that train blew his horn in front of the restaurant.
They probably blew the horn due to a car in the way or a person. thanks for watching! I have a Street running playlist with more cities like LaGrange
Awesome action video. I guess that second train had enough power. Thanks for sharing...
AWESOME video Jawtooth! Love the street running action! So cool to see those double stacks running right down Mainstreet!
I just realized I watched these three same trains on grab bag and the parade. But your video was way more better and cool. Keep up making the best train videos you there awesome
Cool, thanks! Got more coming
@@JawTooth your welcome I know you do can't wait
Wouldn’t it be great if Macy’s Thanksgiving parade could flow down the street with such ease. Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays
You're the best! Love it all!
WOW, JAW TOOTH!!!! 6 engines & a slug, love that video, so awesome, Thanks great, great, video.
Cool slug! Don't see those much any more.
You got that right!
The train with the slug was huge. This was a really great video JT. Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎅🤶
Thanks! You too! Merry Christmas!
Hey JT thanks for this video, this is my favorite of all your videos. the ones in this town!!
Glad you like them!
What a great video from my favorite downtown. Great shops and street running too.
Thanks 👍
That is crazy... if that train derail for any reason on that street O_o that would be terrible.
I do admit I do want to go visit La grange just to see that train going by. 🙂
Small town Christmas parades are the best!!! Thank You La Grange!
Thanks for watching!
That really long train is another "yard clearing special." 😁
Never thought about a mixed manifest train being a “yard clearing special.” Great description! Merry Christmas!
@@leecarlson9713 That long a train (someone estimated it was 170+ cars of mixed rail cars) definitely qualifies as a "yard clearing special." I mean, the train was operating with seven locomotives and one road slug.
Amazing 🇬🇧
@michaelnovak9248 you could say that again, mate.
@michaelnovak9248 the US trains are absolutely splendid.
2nd train needed a lot of power cause those coil cars are heavy 😂
You got that right!
merry Christmas to you and that railroad is so cute i love it
I don't recall steel coils going through before.
I have filmed them in LaGrange a few times
Wow! Great catching two trains and Christmas both decorations and parade, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you.
Happy holidays!
I was in the second fire truck very fun day
Wow, you lucky guy! That must have been a blast. I'm glad the fire trucks didn't play any copyright music like last year. lol
Guess the train didn't see the road closed signs 🤣😂
Good thing they didn't get a ticket lol
