    Unfortunately, High Country Roses just raised all of its prices. They are still quarts but the price has increased to $21.95. As recently as a year ago the prices differed, and you could get some roses for about $15. This means, to me, that unless a rose is unusual I will go elsewhere first. They do have some roses I have ordered that no one else has (4 Inch Heels, Pillow Fight, Gurlande d'Amour) but I cannot justify buying a rose (Gruss an Aachen being an example) for which I can get a gallon for the same money. And I sometimes have to leave them in pots and monitor them for months because they are so small. I am willing to do this for a $15 rose, but not a $21.95 quart.
    Antique Rose Emporium also performed three price increases in about 2 years, but theirs are 2 gallons. The issue with them now (recent change) is that if you add to an already placed order they charge a separate, full shipping cost. I had an undelivered rose order and tried to add another rose to it, and they wanted a full shipping charge. I canceled the order. Two years ago their roses were $19.95 and last year went to $22.95 and are now $24.95. More importantly, Mike Shoup is moving away from active management and the new people do not appear to have experience in roses. It means that the only companies I will order from in which you can add roses for an incremental shipping cost are Roses Unlimited and Freedom Gardens. A rose will now have to be quite unusual for me to order from, particularly Antique Rose Emporium. It makes me sad, since I have been ordering from them since 2003.
    Sadly, I predict that these moves will reduce consumption of roses from High Country and ARE. It will certainly reduce mine. I am glad that I have outstanding orders from these two companies. All of my new orders, however, are from Roses Unlimited and Freedom Gardens. I just acquired two more Bliss Parfuma from Roses Unlimited because they were on sale. That rose is very easy to acquire, and I think that's why it was on sale.

    Yes, just checked and Chamblees was also sold. They were good in past years but they are now selling 3 gallon roses for higher prices. They were sold twice in the past years. There was a sale of the company in 2019. Not a great sign.

    Great video. I just received my first of three orders from High Country and was very pleased. It was my first time buying from them. I also have orders coming from Chamblees, Northland Rosarium, David Austin, Jackson & Perkins and Heirloom. I went a bit rose crazy this year and have 25 coming, to add to the 16 I planted last year.

      Thanks for your message. We are ordering from the same growers 😊 I am waiting on a Chamblees, NR, DA, and a few others. Let me know what you think of J&P. I’m getting ready to post their unboxing and I think they might get a 👎🏻

      @@TheRoseGeek I ordered 4 from J&P last year and all 4 were super healthy and grew and bloomed like crazy. The only problem was 2 of them were not the ones I ordered, they refunded for those. I ordered 5 this year, 2 were cancelled because they were out of stock. Of the remaining 3, I have received one so far. I ordered Angel Face separately from the other order and it shipped first. It looks nice and already had some leaf nubbins starting. I'm hoping they all are the correct roses this year, because 2 of them are going in a garden that I wanted to be all purples.

    I just ordered 6 roses from HC roses base on your review unboxing. Are they growing good for you? They are little plants, I’m wondering how are they growing for you? Do you have a video following up with these babies? I would love to see how they look now. Thank you, Kim! ❤️

    I had never heard of hardening off! They're like little babies! So cute! And oh my gosh, I love South Africa! Other growers can grow David Austin when the trademark expires or when DA discontinues them? I always wondered that and I think you talked about it before. Wow, High Country seems like aa good bet price-wise and quality-wise! Can't wait for the next video!

    Hi!! when you showed the bands you got last year, VS 1 year in the ground that really helped me! I have a hard time visualizing things without aids, sometimes. It's nice to see that if the roses are healthy, they really will be bareroot size after a year! Thanks for all you do!

      @@TheRoseGeek 🤣😆 well, I have been eagerly awaiting your unboxings. I am hoping I’ll start receiving some of my orders soon. Not that you asked but here’s what I’ve ordered from various places this year: a shropshire lad, Olivia rose Austin, ambridge, Abraham Darby, quicksilver, Poseidon 😍 and the fairy. I got a tiny cutting of at last rose, but I don’t think it’s gonna make it 😩 it came small but beautiful but just isn’t looking great now so I don’t expect that one to be in my collection.

    I did not really need to harden mine off, much because my zone is as warm and as bright as his greenhouse...so it will vary by location and time of year.

    • @donnamack6797
      @donnamack6797 Рік тому

      @@TheRoseGeek Very true about zone differences and when you can plant them. I usually leave Matt's roses in pots until the end of the season. I put them right outside my back door so I will pass them every time I go out. I left 2 4 Inch Heels in a pot from April to November. Then I put it into the ground. Because it is a once blooming rose I got no bloom the following spring (2 years ago). But this past spring that puppy jumped to 4 feet high and one of them bloomed. Fabulous, by the way.
      On the other hand, I put Guerlande d'Amour in the ground in semishade after about a month. It's a hybrid musk. It bloomed within weeks and produced about 4 feet of growth, complete with fabulous flowering before fall. I will either purchase another one (how many rampantly blooming climbers bloom in mostly shade?) or I will experiment and try to take cuttings and grow it.
