I hit a wall trying to find a cam for my 5.9 magnum and I’m really disappointed. I wanted so badly to have that sound but couldn’t find a cam and couldn’t find anyone to do the tune I’d need and I called every speed shop in Pennsylvania I could find on google.

you will never get the stock magnum efi to work with a cam like that. the lsa is probably like 106, where efi wants a 112-114 lsa. you would need an aftermarket efi system to make that work, and it would still be a massive paint to tune.

Shane Gerow, check out Hughes "Whiplash" cams, theyre specifically designed for stock, low compression engines. They do have a LSA 107° like a typical Thumpr cam giving it that sound, however, its the grind thats different. Thumpr cams have exaggerated exhaust duration and valve overlap usually having the exhaust closing 50-60° ATDC; why they need higher compression, long headers, gearing. Whiplash cams exhaust typically closes around 6° ATDC meaning the cylinder isnt being scavenged of its fuel/air mixture and not needing higher compression to compensate. These wiplash cams also provide bottom end torque and power. I think the only thing really required is stiffer valve springs, retainers, and keepers. Hope this kinda helps out some. They sound freakin awesome, especially with chambered mufflers.

You can use la valve covers and use the la timing cover as well on the magnum look at the vertical intake bolts dead give away its a magnum

only way yo tell a magnum is look at the block numbers, look for the truck mounts, front of the head accessory mount holes, and vertical intake bolts. everything else on the outside looks the same.

ive got a 400 mopar flat tappet hydraulic that is just as snappy. i dont know of any mutha thumpr magnum rollers, or even la rollers.
