I had a SLP loudmouth 1 on mine with gutted cats. Single 3" all the way back. Sounded amazing. Loudmouth took the straight pipe farting sound away unless you were wide open on the throttle
I drove one of these with the 5.9! 1999 Ram 1500! Had 35s and a whole 7 inch lift. These days, though, with gas prices being what they are it's now a lot harder to live with one of those. Lol. Childhood and nostalgia, man! I was a little kid when these were brand new in the late 90s.
I have stock bottom end, edelbrock performer heads, comp cam, 4.10’s with 33’s and I’m getting 14.5mpg. Making a ton of torque is why, I suppose. I’ve owned 2 other 5.9’s both bone stock. My 2wd got 11, my 4x4 got 9.
I swapped a 5.9 into a 97 Grand Cherokee, and put an NV3500 manual 5 speed behind it, and I get 16 avg, but on the highway I see 26mpg on the overhead computer.
I always love seeing these things around most second gen Dodge trucks have had a hard life and almost all of the ones I see are beaters both Diesel and gas with the gas models being treated the worst out of all of them but more often than not I do see ones that are nearly mint
I'm original owner of my 01 ram which happy to say still love it and still looks like day one. Pretty awesome for a black not garage kept NJ truck and nope not rusted or rot. I changed the exhaust many years ago put headers on and flow masters super 10'S loud and proud. Just will never be able to even come close to that sound with a 6 cylinder. I. Hoping to keep this for another 23 years if I live that long 6:336:33

I’ve got a 2000 ram 1500 5.2 magnum with 3 inch piping from headers, cat delete, carven mufflers into dual rolled tip carven tips. I absolutely love it. Wish I had the power to match the sound though😅

@@jaylonghouls709 Yes, the front end of a 2nd gen Ram SLT is different than the front end of a Sport trim. The Sport trim one you have is more round. Mine was more straight at the edges with a chrome piece at the middle.
My 98 SLT 5.2 Dakota has shorty headers and true duals with a dual inlet/outlet Flowmaster 40 series.. have to run both 2.5 pipes down the passenger side because of the fuel tank.. split over the axle and exit under the rear bumper 😁...
I have the magnaflow dual exhaust, it took like 6 months to break it in because I don't drive it alot but I noticed my gas mileage has increased a bit too ....
A cheap option that sounds amazing is a y pipe replacing the cat, a straight pipe going to another y pipe going into a flow master flowfx 2to1 then going to the stock tail pipe.
Mines held up by a ratchet strap as well. If I'm being honest this is the 3rd second gen I've bought that I've had to put a ratchet strap on to hold it up
I've had many Dodge trucks,and honestly I think magna flow sound better.I have had 4.7 and 5.7 hemis with cold air intake.And I've had people pull up to me and ask me that it sounds awesome.

I'm rocking a 98 1500 5.9 with the magnapack and a wheelside dump on the 2.25" pipe, and I've added a DC Sports 3.75" x 9" bolt-on to it, and it sounds better than pretty much all of these. Very deep rumble tone while idling and it roars down the road with quite the snarl when I let up on the pedal.

he said it's an 02 meaning its a very early 3rd gen and first year 3rd gens had the 360/5.9 magnum, but they switched it out for the hemi in 03 i believe
It was an 18in Magnaflow magnapack w/ a 2.5 to 2.25 y-pipe going into 4in rolled tips. I have a a similar setup using the magnapack on my 2nd gen and it’s a good balance between loud/crackly on hard acceleration and deceleration, but not obnoxious when you’re doing 70+ on the highway or just cruising around town. I highly recommend it. I’ve gotten plenty of compliments on it around town when punching it and it’s only JUST quiet enough to not piss my neighbors off on cold-starts.
I actually should mention 2003 was the final year for the 5.9L 360CID V8 MAGNUM not 2002. Which is a common misconception because when the 5.7L Hemi was introduced it was more popular due to it being a Hemi as a result there were significantly less 5.9L 360CID V8 MAGNUMs produced for the 2003 model year
@@r.n.u_mb_4uller_710 Yes I want to a Dodge dealership and bought a hellcat complete exhaust system and then went to an exhaust shop and have them chop it and put dual exhaust on my truck it's what happens when you put $22,000 in a truck by the way most of that money is in the motor and transmission but if you can't afford a complete package it's easier to buy the muffler and resonator used than new new you'll end up paying around $1,100 like I did used $400 to $700 for used PS I'm a Dodge technician

Your guys work is atrocious why would you put a 3in pipe after the choked down section and why slide the factory exhaust fully inside a much larger diameter and say fuck it good enough. Gross. Step up the quality ffs
@@therangersinger well my grandma gave me her 1998 1500 magnum V8 it sat for two years and all we had to do was change a alternator and fan belt redo sum bearings and it runs amazing 🤷🏾♂️ me personally I don't want to have alot of power it just has to be reliable
Make sure you do not let your exhaust pipes stick into the exhaust tips. Make sure you cut them so they only go into the exhaust tip one and 5/8 inches or else it will change the sound if they were not equal, it will not be a tuned sound

Do the right gearing with a 408 and you might get better mileage if you can keep your foot out of it

Maganapack for the win. It is a happy medium between the Flowmaster 44 and the muffler delete.

I've got short tube headers and a Flowmaster Flow FX on my 01 Ram 1500 with the 5.9/360. Rumbles but doesn't crackle.
my 03 Dakota 5.9 R/T has shorties, high flow cats, 2 flowmaster fx glasspack mufflers and when i let off the gas it crackles nice.

I like the red one the most with the sport front end. The old one I had was an SLT with 35s and lift kit. But, from experience, I like stock the most.

I put a BORLA 40364 ProXS Universal Perfrormance muffler on my 2000 with the 5.9. It's deep AF, I get compliments all the time \m/
