Another tip: Don’t listen to the common advice not to drop your anchor. Especially when you are new, just drop your anchor so you can stop where you want to stop. HOWEVER, then check that your sails are up, and that your wheel is centered, then immediately raise the anchor. Your ship will now stay in place just like it were anchored, but you can run quickly if you need to.
This is the best advice, also you can release the anchor and grab and hold it at the last second to prevent stopping, and then let go to do an incredibly precise stop.
This is the best beginner’s guide I’ve watched. Perfectly edited and so clear. I think other UA-camrs forget to put themselves into the shoes of a brand new player, and tend to ramble on a bit. I didn’t even realise alliances and the little alliance flag was a thing. So, thank you. You have a new subscriber :)
Thank you so much! 😃 I tried to imagine myself as a brand new player & I hoped I was able to be clear in explaining my points! Appreciate the very kind words 💜
One more tip I'd offer, Named skeletons: Skeleton captains with a name above them offer a loot drop when killed. Can be a dig, or a riddle, but it will always be on the island you are currently on. Captain treasures can be a wide variety of medium to high tier loot, even a nice filled storage crate, so especially on small islands, they are worth it. Ashen guardians offer an ashen key and a map to a chest, filled with loot from the roar, or even a set of books, worth doubloons.
I’ve been playing sea of thieves for years now but I lost my Xbox due to the hardware inside of it got fried and I’ll finally be able to get back into the seas again on my ps5
Great vid. As someone’s who’s been playing since day one the only other tip I can give if you’re lucky is to have friends, by that I mean just having 1 person who knows what their doing can teach a full galleon pretty quick. When my friends got it on PlayStation I taught them and they picked it up super quick, so just have fun with your mates. Remember, it’s a sandbox, play however you want in it
I have thousands of hours in this game and own everything but I still watched this whole video. Great tips and edited amazingly, Thanks for the great content 💙
Such a well put together video. Definitely wished I had spent a little more time picking out my pirate, but I’ve had him for so long at this point I don’t want to change him.
I totally feel that lol sometimes I think hmm should I change my pirate but I'm so attached to her! Had her for 5 years now so it would be rude xD thanks for the kind words legend
The sloop is actually not the fastest ship against the wind. I'm not totally sure why this is such a widespread misconception but the brig is the fastest going upwind. Sloops can still outrun galleons against the wind though
It's the biggest debated thing ever in SoT, I'd love to see it properly tested. I played on brig a few days ago and we were chasing a sloop against the wind and could not catch them, the only time we were able to gain on them was when they SLIGHTLY lost their dead wind which would make sense as brigs can get a tiny speed boost when not in direct dead wind. But if you're a sloop and want to run away sailing against the wind is 100% your best chance
It is now possible to change your character without deleting your progress: The Pirate Appearance Potion is a potion purchasable from the Pirate Emporium for 149 Ancient Coins in Sea of Thieves. (Which you can get in game free, or for $2-3 IRL) Sometimes it goes on sale for less. The Potion allows players to choose a new appearance for their Player Pirate in the Infinite Pirate Generator without losing any in-game progression such as Reputation, Currencies, Commendations, Titles, or Cosmetics.
I am going off of the video at 0:38 where they said you could only spend money IRL or delete your character, I'm telling people that you can also use other in game currency and it sometimes goes on sale. Hopefully, this finds you well.
Love the content, I learnt how to set up my supplies by watching you and in honour I have the venomous kraken figurehead although I'm thinking of swapping it out for the inky kraken.... Ships called the jolly unreliable.
@@HappyKrakenX it's difficult picking between them, in the one hand the venomous one is green and kinda goes with the ship colour. But the inky is purple and that also goes with the ship 😅

For about half hour i keep asking my self if i should buy this game on PS 5 for what i saw until now i like everything about it. I look forward to be sunked multiple times....I will go for it
Ahoy, new pirate here. I’ve been told “You don’t suck for being 2 days new” so there’s that. I plan on becoming a skele pirate as I had one help me out and now I crave the curse.
That was awesome, thank you Kraken! Btw there are also accessibility options in the game like an auto float feature if you have a real life fear of being submerged in water. The developers are adding more features like this as often as possible.
Heyho i really enjoy your videos on SoT, i started playing on ps5 yesterday and its really awesome😍 i just wanted to play the game since 2020 when i first hear about it! But iam a ps only gamer so i hoped and wished a lot and there it is, 4 years later😍 your videos helped me a lot in these first two days as a new pirate, thank you so much. Greetings to all of you from germany and hopefully we will see at the seas😊
nice vide! im new at this game and im just waiting for the ps5 launch so i can try to complain with all that stuff that u explain. I have a friend that we play an mmorpg called Old School runescape and he seds me as i like play rpg he knows that im going to love this game. Even becase have that pvp and pvm experience were you have the pressure that you can lost all your treasures. Amazing!
10/10 Guide, hopefully most swabbies will find this helpful. Also as someone who spends way too much time on naming things, I named my first gally The Wolves Revenge.
when you said mango and then pomegranate ( I was talking to someone) I was so confused and thought I had been playing the game wrong this entire time. The I realised you were going in reverse order. ( I've been playing since 2019)
Don't forget that doing the Maiden Voyage actually allows you to find a treasure inside the island, which in turn will give you a nice, effortless, quick-cash, so you can get yourself some nice cosmetics and/or start saving to buy you very first ship! :3
Small bit of advice as this guide was made before the change. The trick to pointing your sails forward if you don't have wind as a sloop, Dummy Sails, has been patched. You now NEED your sails to be angled to catch even the smallest bit of wind. Example. If the wind is coming directly at your ship, you need to angle your sails either all the way left or right to gain more speed. If you angle your sails forward directly AGAINST the wind you will move slower than if you angled your sails all the way left or right.
Me, a four year vet of the sea: ooh look a beginner's guide! May ships name is called "Red King." A better tip though, i dont recommend shipwrecks for supplies, i recommend raiding sea forts. Their easy to do, quick, give loot, on the map, and always filled with good supplies. While shipwrecks are very inconsistent. Their not always ready to be found, and not going to give you alot of loot or supplies.
Agreed - sea forts are definitely an amazing way to stock up! They have recently buffed the shipwrecks now so that you get a few pieces of King Loot which is 100% worth it now imo! I used to always skip shipwrecks back in the day but now they feel worth it to me 😄
Each to their own! If I had a crew of 3 I'd 100% use the brig. All I can do is recommend best practise! If you're in a fight on a gally and you're a man down you've only got 1 person able to cannon, 1 on repairs and 1 on helm then sails, since the galleon is so big it truly does take 4 people to master it efficiently, brigs are super powerful too even tho you have less cannons! It's definitely a smaller, easier ship to manage than a 3 man galleon! But like I say, everyone has their own playstyle and if you're having fun then go for it 😄
I just started playing this game on PS5 since it only released on it a couple weeks ago, so haven’t bought my ship quite yet, but my girlfriend has been playing it on Xbox for roughly past year and has her own ship, since the Black Pearl is definitely not an original name, she named hers, The White Gearl! Lol I liked it.
100% and I've seen an increase in people asking me whenever I'm live on twitch for some advice for beginners! So I thought I might as well make a guide haha
@HappyKrakenX I actually followed you a few weeks back. Met some other pretty cool guys in the community too. Been waiting 6yrs to play it so I wanted to jump in ahead of time and get a feel for it
I use to own a Xbox then I sold it before this game came out. Now that's its coming to ps5 I tried the beta and loved it ima binge this channel now so I become king of the pirates
I just recently bought my first ship, a sloop. She has been named the Princess of Alderaan. Now I just need to settle on cosmetics worthy of my Princess.
Wicked Wench for those still wanting the Black Pearl or Jackdaw for ac3 black flag fans 😊 It makes me sad because sot and Atlas came out the same year and now sof does most of what Atlas did minus animal taming/ship building and other stuff. I had so much fun on og Atlas and you could hire crew so you could build and sail a Galleon as a solo player. Also the ship building part was so good 😢
Great video Kraken. your video really help me out as a new player and thanks to you i got my first captaincy ship. i christened my sloop ( The BloodHound) so again thank you for all the help and tips in your video. hope you have yourself a gooden Kraken 🏴☠😊✨💖
When buying your first captained ship I recommend not buying the Galleon as your firstt like I did. Don't get me wrong, I love my galleon, however, it's the most expensive and you have to rely on haveing a crew to sail it. I recommend buying the sloop that way you don't have to rely on another person whom you may not know. Or unless you have freinds who regularly play, then buy whatever you want. I named my Galleon "The Dread Wolf" :)) She's a good ship
im new to the game. Good tipps at the start, then a lot confusing ones comes and finaly it seems, even if this is the newest, it seem outdated. you got a lovly voice, but i wish to hear it longer in a more detailed explenations. there are more then these 5 weapons you talk bout and i saw in another vid that u dont have to sink your own ship, but somehow to "dive to a different server" dont tested it yet. this emessary flags that cost 20k and give you bonus gold, do u loose it when your ship get destroyed? i also see much more different food, for what reason u cook food, is there a benefit to fruits? but good tipp with slooo sail into the wind sail straight...maybe my only way to survive an encounter
I recommend avoiding safer seas. You’re gonna sink no matter what in sea of thieves. PVP battle is a major aspect of the game and so getting out of your comfort zone is the best way to learn how to defend your boat and get better at PVP. If you choose safer seas you will pick up on bad habits that will effect your ability to PVP
I knew all that effort would be worth it in the end! Genuinely such an amazing watch and everything told is true! Enjoy the game everyone it is an absolute blast! Play how you want and explore and have fun with it! :D
Im soo glad its finally on playstation, i stopped playing this game yeeeeears ago around season 3 because none of my homies were on xbox and mow it dont even matter hell yea!!!
Me and my gf are new to the game and tried to play high seas and got spawn-camped a few times 😂, we gave up playing online and ended up playing all the tall tale story’s. Watching this video made me want to try it again I’ll plug my mic in next time and make some friends 😅 thank you 👍
Aww sorry to hear you guys went through that but I'm SO glad to hear you're gonna try it again! There's definitely more good pirates out there than bad and I truly hope you have a better experience next time also, I LOVE the Tall Tales lol! Which one was your fav?
There are lots of videos, kinda like guides, around begginers starting to play Sea of Thieves, having a fairly easy progress and making lots of coins quite soon but they start playing with at least one experienced friend wich it is a huge help. I just got the game but haven´t started playing yet and doing some research found your videos. As I am not very fond of jumping into PvP without a minimal preparation I will do the Tutorials and play some PvE to get the grips of the controls and game mechanics but I´d like to jump into the real deal feeling some confidence and not being scared all the time. That´s why I have researched for guides and while sharing with us valuelable information they don´t exactly show footage of how things go during a whole session while playing solo. So, I have created my character and had to leave for the rest of the afternoon so I am still a noob without any experience in the game and that said I drop the question. Do you have or plan doing a guide aiming to help out new players that may end up playing Solo most of the time?

Thank you so much for the kind words!! 😀 I love the name of your ship, very original! Happy sailing 💜
@@HappyKrakenX Aww you're very welcome and again thank you for all the help 💜
When buying your first captained ship I recommend not buying the Galleon as your firstt like I did. Don't get me wrong, I love my galleon, however, it's the most expensive and you have to rely on haveing a crew to sail it. I recommend buying the sloop that way you don't have to rely on another person whom you may not know. Or unless you have freinds who regularly play, then buy whatever you want.
I named my Galleon "The Dread Wolf" :)) She's a good ship
i have 3 ships galleon is hells fury, brig is fools errand, and sloop is Kings ransom
7:47 Got the game a few weeks ago and my ship has an ashen theme with the name "DevilsBreath"
i know i’m late but i’m getting this game tomorrow. but is the mic/speaker and the blunderblast free?
im new to the game.
This is the best video i have watched for sea of thieves!
Thank you SO much!! very kind 🙏
The SS Clapper has officially set sail thanks to you 🙏
I finally Captain my own ship and I called it the "Slice of Life" :)
Great content with so much to see and learn thank you kind mam
Ps5 player here , can't wait ,thank you for vid
Of course!! You're very welcome 😄
I started playing recently and was able to get my own ship after a few days and named it the "wolf queen" 😅
I knew all that effort would be worth it in the end! Genuinely such an amazing watch and everything told is true! Enjoy the game everyone it is an absolute blast! Play how you want and explore and have fun with it! :D
Thank you for the kind words you're such a legend AAAAA💜
@@HappyKrakenX Takes a legend to know a legend hehe

Great advices! And fun to follow along the narrative. Thank you, ps5 soon to be player
My sloop is chuckle bucket. Brig is joker’s revenge. Gonna name my galleon Harley’s Hammer or mallet
