Is it worth tuning a mostly stock Tahoe for power on 87? YES! Big gains for a stock truck.

@@Clearlykevin was your truck factory equipped with e fans or did you install them?
The reason for needing a higher output alternator is because of the amperage draw they produce. A lot of people have gotten away without upgrading but it’s best to have a higher output alternator to keep all of the other electrical circuits happy when the fans are being powered on.
If you look at the output of the alternators of Chevy trucks that came factory with the e fans, you can see that they have a higher voltage alternator than the trucks that came with the clutch fan.

@@KAMRBX No they don't. I tried the NNBS police Tahoe fans on a big block radiator on my Express van when it had the L31 still in it. Put any weight behind it and it was at 220-240F on a hot summer day. Re-installed the clutch fan and it would hold right around 176-182F with a 180F high flow thermostat. I lost more power from the PCM pulling timing to prevent spark knock than the clutch fan ate. The a/c also performed noticeably better with the clutch fans added CFM. Even with a 140 amp stock CS144 alternator I had to bump up to a 200 amp AD244 to power the 50 amp draw of the later model fans. Mine being a conversion van with a lot of electrical add ons and rear a/c had the 140 amp CS-144 maxed out at idle and low engine RPM without the added electric fan load.

Great vehicles, better than new and parts still out there thankfully. Good luck. Oh, the magna flow converter has a different bend on drivers side that makes it difficult to get the stock large diameter front driveshaft out if needed. I went to the later model smaller diameter driveshaft and no problems. Yeah, bit more $ yet new shaft and joints included at over 200K miles.
