Audi has become the second manufacturer to officially commit to the SRO Motorsports Group’s new GT2 category, unveiling the All-New Audi R8 LMS GT2 at Goodwood.
Audi’s long-rumored GT2 car is based on the same platform as its existing GT3 and GT4 versions of the R8 model.
It becomes the second manufacturer to publicly commit to GT2, following in the footsteps of Porsche which will take a field of 911 GT2 RS Clubsports to the Total 24 Hours of Spa for a single-make support race.
Producing 640 hp, the Audi R8 LMS GT2 is the most powerful car in the 11-year history of Audi Sport customer racing, which currently encompasses its GT3, GT4, and TCR programs.
It will go on sale for a price of €338,000 ($381,000) plus VAT with orders open now. Deliveries will begin in December.
“This sports car with its emotive high-performance V10 engine marks the top end of our customer racing program,” said Oliver Hoffmann, CEO of Audi Sport.
