Well Dearest PizzaFlix, I'm crying again...As usual the media and the scavengers that go with them ruined another broken soul. The end when Vickie used Normans name made me so proud of the heart and loyalty she had for her husband. Her Granny took the cake, she was right when she said, "no matter where you run...you can't get away from yourself" It is the truest fact ever. As far as this being better than Lady Gaga and Bradly Coopers version I have to say I have followed Mother Monster from the very beginning and I love her so much. She has had alot of heartbreak and cruelty done her and she still has humility, heart and so much class. I sobbed for days after watching her in the Classic redone. She and her own music as well rings in my ears like and angelic message from God. She is truly blessed and I pray for her continued success and uniqueness as I will follow her to the end...

altogether there are 4 versions I think. There is Gaga, Kristofferson, this one, and one more I cant remember. I just watched the Gaga. I had no opinion of her before I saw it. Always liked Bradley, but was really impressed with his singing. He was quite good. The Streisand Kris vehicle was a real turkey. The Gaga version was entertainng, but it was really kind of boring. There are so many good books out there but we still have to keep watching the same story over and over. They say there are really only 10 stories. Boy gets girl, boy loses girl, etc etc. This is a good version because it was the first.

This is the first time I've ever seen any version of this movie. It's a dark glimpse at fame and celebrity. Another take on "be careful what you wish for". I enjoyed it. The acting was good. According to this movie, fame and celebrity isn't worth it. But I have to say, if given the choice, I'd take rich and miserable over poor and miserable. Thanks for the upload.

Isn’t vintage clothing just gorgeous? Especially the evening wear. Nothing modern compares to the elegance of 30’s evening wear. If you really want to be blown away, look at vintage Fortuny gowns. A miracle of manufacture, and I think it’s been a closely guarded secret♥️

I have not seen the one that was out last year and doubt that I will see it now. Once you know how it ends why bother and not that much of a fan of Lady Gaga. To each his own. Thank you for loading it to share. I am a fan of the old movies but guess I haven’t seen that much of Janet Gaynor as I wasn’t that impressed with how she looks. Was that her natural hair color?

The beautiful Janet Gaynor (1906 - 1984) started acting in school plays and had her first uncredited on-screen role in a 1924 short as an extra in All Wet. Her first film role, also in 1924, was in Cupid's Rustler - again an uncredited part. Remarkably, she made a string of uncredited films between 1924 and 1927 when she won the role of Indre in Sunrise: A Song Of Two Humans which scored her the very first Oscar for Best Actress:he was the youngest actress (at 22) to win this Oscar until Marlee Matlin (now 55, 2020) won aged 21 for Children Of A Lesser God. Under the then rules, this Oscar was also for her performances in 7th Heaven (1927) and Street Angel (1928). Sunrise is considered by some to be the best movie of the silent era and was a huge smash hit. Janet Gaynor was on her way to stardom. She was one of the relatively few actors/actresses to successfully transition into "speakies" and she was a major and very popular star in the 1930s: In 1931 and 1932 she shared the most popular box office actress accolade with Marie Dressler (1868 - 1934) and after Dressler's death she was unchallenged for the most popular ranking. Gaynor was often described as a successor to Mary Pickford (1892 - 1979) and starred in remakes of two of Pickford's films. In 1935 she starred in The Farmer Takes A Wife which introduced Henry Fonda (1905 - 1982) to the screen. A Star Is Born, another great success, won her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. However by the late 1930s her success was waning and she was being eclipsed by stars such as Shirley Temple (1928 - 2014) and Loretta Young (1913 - 2000) and, although still being a major star, she retired from the screen at the age of 33, marrying for the second time in 1939 and having a child in 1940. She returned to TV screens in the early 1950s and played her final role in the 1957 film, Bernadine. She also had several stage roles including Harold and Maude (1980) and On Golden Pond (1982) which was her final performance. In 1982, she was involved in a serious car accident which left her with significant injuries. Less well known isthat she was an accomplished painter especially of vegetable and flowersd and she sold over 200 paintings in hrr lifetime. This version of A Star Is Born is undeniably the very best of the four versions - it was remade in 1954, 1976 and 2018 (by far the worst version).

Further adding to the irony, all the scenes Auntie Em appears in were filmed in sepia tone.

At the start of this film it is stated that the characters are fictitious. That is not true. This movie is based largely on the careers of John Gilbert & Greta Garbo; Gilbert was a 1920s Hollywood superstar; The true successor of Rudolf Valentino as "The Great Lover". He was also a temperamental alcoholic with a scarred childhood. Garbo was a newcomer when they met. Gilbert coached her & fell in love. Garbo was fond of him but also manipulative. They planned to marry but she jilted him. Gilbert went to pieces. His career declined while hers soared. He drank himself to death after several attempted comebacks. Because he made enemies in Hollywood Gilbert is largely forgotten while Garbo is still s legend.

No one like Judy Garland...even when Mrs Streisand and Lady Gaga did marvelous interpretations.

INTERESTING TO FIND THAT THE MUSIC JUST BEFORE THE CREDITS END IS THE SAME THEME USED IN "SINCE YOU WENT AWAY" IN 1944

Didn't Bette Middler also do a version of 'A Star is Born'?

You may be thinking of "The Rose" her music pic very loosely based around the story of Janis Jopiln

What did the ad Mean by "no cowboys".?

Back than discrimination was rampant in California rentals. “Cowboys” refer to the single athletic virile men who came to stunt act and act in western movies and they were seen as ruffians with very loose morals who fornicated a lot and got a lot of girls in Hollywood in trouble. To protect the girls living in the apts, the landlords wouldn’t allow these single stud/jock type of men to rent.

I dunno... I'm hooked on B&W. So this was the catalyst for the remakes that used well-known popular stars? Its a great movie. First time I've seen the original, I was just disappointed with the color. Made it seem to have been filmed after all the remakes with the color.
