they don't even come close to making movies like that today. man i'd love to meet a woman, and i mean a woman like that. no special effects, CGI or fancy camera shots. excellent movie
What a delightful movie. Lillian Gish was a wonderful actress. I've watched her in Night of the Hunter many times, because her role was just so excellent. Roland Young was one of my favorites in these old movies. He was really great as Topper.
I really loved watching this film with my favorite actress beautiful Miss Lillian Gish ❤️🌹🌹💕and the great Roland Young 🇬🇧who never disappoints onscreen! Miss Lillian and Roland are so terrific together!
I have seen a few bits and pieces from other movies done with Lillian Gish but this is the first talkie I've seen and I watched in it's entirety. I'm somewhat intrigued by her as I found out she made her stage debut in our small village back in the very early 1900's in Rising Sun (now spelled as 1 word) Ohio. A beautiful actress with a voice to match. Thank you for posting this.
So fantabulous! Only those who have been hunted by the masses such as so many beautiful wonderful artistic people sadly have been will ever fully understand and appreciate the full beauty substance true riches and blessings of this awesome film!
What a delightful movie! A young Lillian Gish is as beautiful as I always suspected her to be, and Roland Young always reminded me of the little man on the Community Chest cards in Monopoly.
Nice to hear the word “queer” used properly. More people should use misused words properly, and use correct words for (the intended meaning of the masses behind) the oft misused words as well. As always, love to see Roland and Lillian, both names made a picture a must-see…
I give you a toast, ladies and gentlemen. I give you a toast, ladies and gentlemen. May this fair dear land we love so well In dignity and freedom dwell. Though worlds may change and go awry While there is still one voice to cry There'll always be an England While there's a country lane, Wherever there's a cottage small Beside a field of grain. There'll always be an England While there's a busy street, Wherever there's a turning wheel, A million marching feet. Red, white and blue; what does it mean to you? Surely you're proud, shout it aloud, "Britons, awake!" The empire too, we can depend on you. Freedom remains. These are the chains Nothing can break. There'll always be an England, And England shall be free If England means as much to you As England means to me.
Although this version of the film answers some questions I’d had, I actually preferred the slightly-later version ‘Holy Matrimony’ better; the casting, acting and comic telling is charming. Thanks for this!!
Thank you👍 swell old movie pretty hip for the times Lillian Gish is gorgeous hm never saw Roland in any other movies think he's great too Another slice of 🍕Please
It's not just that she can voice act, but she's doing a credible English accent, which American actors are famously really bad at, Dick van Dyke's chimney-sweep in Mary Poppins is legendarily bad. Such poise, beauty and intelligence, definitely an underrated actress overall.
this reminds me of miracle on 34th street was it? they so do not make movies of this kind anymore. so super lovely. dang, loved it so much and that girl, was fabulous
Lillian can’t do an English accent. Farg for fog, and hart for hot, etc. She is forty yet looks at least ten years younger. But otherwise this is a nice positive film. Roland is great as the vulnerable fella. Fun and escapist for the hard times of the thirties.
I'm trying not to personalize this story. I keep yelling at Farrell - calling him a Moron. After all, he didn't know where to get boiling water, and couldn't identify himself in spite of the fact that he had several opportunities to do so. He was Damned lucky to have all that money. It's obvious that he'd inherited his money, he was actually too Stupid to make it himself.
Stars: Roland Young and Lillian Gish! Priam Farrel is a celebrated artist but a social recluse. When his valet dies of a sudden illness, a mix-up leads to the body being identified as Farrel's. The timid artist then assumes the identity of his former servant, but finds himself faced with constant dilemmas as a result.
i love classic movies, good story and men and women dress up so beautiful. 2021 people in public like hell, they almost donot want to wear clothes to cover their bodies. i am sick of them
Lillian had left Hollywood 3 years before as a big star with her name above the title of "One Romantic Night"(1930). Three years later she made this in Queens, billed below Roland Young (and in quite a lower case lettering than he). And William Demille, Cecil's brother, who had been a name in Hollywood in 1930 ,is relegated to assistant director? Quite a falling off for both Gish and Demille.
Miss Lillian Gish., Her Voice Secured A Winning Place In Movie History.. Unfortunately movie scripts for talking films when the talkies started down played and negated all the Talent And Skills Legends Of The Silent Screen Brought. Miss Lillian Gish's Presence On The Screen And Off Deserves All The Honor Dignity Love And Respect In Helping To Pave Our Way Entertainmently.. Thank You Miss Lillian 👏 👏 ❤
When I was 14 years old there was one actor that was amusing to watch play someone that has absolutely no clue, no common sense. That was Curly from the 3 Stooges. Watching anyone else be utterly braid dead is quite tedious, and detracts from the comedy. That said, this film does have a certain charm. But it's the story as written, not this film adaptation.
Interesting movie, but most bizarrely executed at points. I haven't read the source texts, but I have read some others by Arnold Bennett, and I can't imagine the dialogue would be so clunky and boring. The court scene was funny and surreal though. I WAs charmed by the two leads, but I have to say they both cry horrendously. Not sure if it was the direction or the script that had Gish absurdly burst into "tears" because her husband expresses some small concern about money. Farrell even had to explicate for us: "Oh dear, you are crying."
they don't even come close to making movies like that today. man i'd love to meet a woman, and i mean a woman like that. no special effects, CGI or fancy camera shots. excellent movie
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the Sauce be with you.
PizzaFlix iiii
There was just as much trickery back then, you know.

Roland Young is always enjoyable, and Lillian's character is delightful. Nice little flick.
This is one of the most charming movies I've ever seen.
Thank you for sharing it.
What a delightful movie. Lillian Gish was a wonderful actress. I've watched her in Night of the Hunter many times, because her role was just so excellent.
Roland Young was one of my favorites in these old movies. He was really great as Topper.
Great seeing Roland Young again. Monte Wooley & Gracie Fields reprised this in "Holy Matrimony." a decade later. Enjoyed HEARING Lillian Gish too!!
Aren't these oldies wonderful! I'm so glad and thankful for YT and you PizzaFlix!
I am impressed with Lillian Gish's acting style. Roland Young was the best actor to play this part.
EVEN BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND, THANKS UPLOADER!!!!!!!!!!

Lillian Gish had class and grace until the day she died
What a lovely true actress

I think people in general who have been hunted and stalked by a psycho or several of them fully understand and appreciate it.
What a delightful movie! A young Lillian Gish is as beautiful as I always suspected her to be, and Roland Young always reminded me of the little man on the Community Chest cards in Monopoly.
Never thought of that, but he absolutly does..... Mr. Monopoly in person!!
I enjoy this movie every time; Thanks for uploading it!

I remember watching this a couple of years ago, certainly worth watching again.
A Roland Young treasure!
Just watched this one. You have some prize films. A big thumbs up from me....
Seen many versions of this movie but this is one of the BEST Thank you for posting
Thanks for watching! May the Sauce be with you.
I seem to like both versions including His double life and Holy Matrimony.
Just love this movie!!!💜
Thank you for sharing this movie!
Delightful little story. She is a very practical wife. Roland Young plays his part!
This movie is delightful! I remember my mother telling me about Lillian Gish
thank you . I enjoyed this . It was not as taught as the remake. but both fun in different ways
they are SHATTERING together!!!
How true PF! thankful for this beautiful film!
Charming old movie. Thanks again for a wonderful offering, @PizzaFlix 😄
It's puzzling that such a charming actress didn't make more movies... She really is enchanting.
Kidding right?
She made loads of films before this.
I love Lillian Gish voice
That little lisp. It's too cute
t pong Jameso
This is what great comedy used to be, a roast of pretension and convention.
Best movie !
very cute! thanks!
Lillian Gish is a genius of cool.
Roland Young, Like That Guy🌺

You must see Topper. He played alongside Cary Grant and Constance Bennett. He was great as Cosmo Topper.
Try And then there were none.
Lillian Gish is also tremendous in the scary movie "The Night of the Hunter". It has Robert Mitchum as the murdering preacher and Shelley Winters.
One of her greatest screen performances
Yes, that movie is creepy scary!! A must watch for sure!!
The actors make a big difference in older movies. More characters, less blonds. Older actors .
her acting on a silent era is on point to what she did here in atalkies.
Eh?
51:38 "you're a bigamist, sir, a deserter of women, heaven only knows..."/ "sugar?"/ "two, please" :)))
fantastic, thanks for posting.
I saw a wonderful remake of this with Monte Woolley "Holy Matrimony" costarring Gracie Fields.
REAL GOOD FLICK! Lillian is translucent!
Yes, she does glow doesn't she!
It's not just that she can voice act, but she's doing a credible English accent, which American actors are famously really bad at, Dick van Dyke's chimney-sweep in Mary Poppins is legendarily bad.

A very funny situation. Great film.
Clever script and well acted story!
Love it
Perfectly cute
Where can you find a girl like Lillian Gish nowadays ? What a Sweetie !
Best version😉
I agree! Such fun
nobody seemed to care about the real Henry, poor guy - he made it all possible
Charming movie.I realised that I had seen the remake "Holy matrimony "with Monty Woolley and Gracie Fields, but this film had better characterization.
Lillian can’t do an English accent. Farg for fog, and hart for hot, etc. She is forty yet looks at least ten years younger. But otherwise this is a nice positive film. Roland is great as the vulnerable fella. Fun and escapist for the hard times of the thirties.

I think you may have misinterpreted this film.
Great movie. Thanks for sharing.

Remade with Monty Wooley and Eric Blore.
Wonderful. My first time seeing Lillian Gish in a talkie. Is it just me, or is her performance like a very controlled, not-as-scattered ZaSu Pitts?
I thought the same thing.
I had to check to make sure it wasn't her.
I wonder if they are related ... ?
Exactly. I thought the same thing, also!!! They certainly resemble each other.
i love classic movies, good story and men and women dress up so beautiful.
2021 people in public like hell, they almost donot want to wear clothes to cover their bodies. i am sick of them
Wasn't there another made with the same story line with Monty Wooley & Gracie Fields? 2 other great actors!
Isn't there a remake of this movie called Holy Matrimony with Gracie Fields and Monty Woolley
? The plot in both are the same.
Yes.
@@donmarshall4888 I seem to like the version called Holy Matrimony better. I think the acting was better in it.
I also suspect so as I have seen also "Holy Matrimony" with Gracie Fields and Monty Willy
And the remake w Monte Wooley is on UA-cam as well!!
@@Daviemes13 I agree

Lillian Gish--what a lady! Can hardly follow the storyline of any film she's in--my eyes are glued to her! lol

Please explain 26:45 ?why were they all laughing?
Confused me, also.
I thought because he was so fumbling and couldn’t talk
Surely Medicine wasn't like this....not quite like this! Then?
He was a very small man..
Not "small" Roland Young was "short".
In these movies - show the women money or make a marriage proposal .... they will be all over you like a rash ! :D Funny movie, well acted.

Lillian Gish never seemed to age. She was 40 when the film was released yet only looks to still be in her mid-twenties to mid-thirties.
Love it
