It works against them both just one more than the other so it is unacceptable to say colorism does not exist.

My grandmother, who was also extremely fair skinned, was shunned by my grandfather's family because she wasnt light skinned enough. Imagine not being happy with the fact that your baby is happy, healthy and SAFE and instead being concerned over something as goddamn trivial as eye color. It's one thing to be worried about your kids skin color if you FEAR that they will face colorism. My parents had the Talk with me and my siblings that we would be treated different due to our skin color and that we were beautiful and strong no matter what white western ideals existed in our midwestern suburb. THAT'S IT. When my sister complained that her hair wasn't "pretty like theirs" we'd watch documentaries on African and mixed hair. When I complained that I didn't have light eyes like my brother (he's got the hazel eyes and freckles I want), my mom made me sit down and watch movies staring women without blue or green eyes.
It's just gross to shame a baby. Babies are ugly imo, but I ain't shaming them TO THEIR FACES AS THEIR PARENT. I just find squishy screaming poop machines gross and stressful...

They really don’t appreciate anything do they huh? Also their daughter looks the way she is BECAUSE OF THEM. She has their genetics, and they can’t just pick and choose what features she has. It’s 50/50 but it’s a bit random. Their daughter is beautiful. All of their kids are. They should be free to be themselves and not have their parents judge them, especially on camera. This reminds me of what I did when I was a kid. My cousins were jealous that I was the only one born with green eyes and told me it was ugly. I kept crying and hated my eyes so much that I would’ve done anything to make them brown. They suggested I wash my eyes with soap until the green came off and I did it. My mom caught us and she had to tell me to never listen to them because it’s not my fault I was born with green eyes.

i just- i- i wouldn't even care????? like idk about anyone else but i wouldn't give a single fuck about how my kid looked, if i had a healthy, beautiful baby that i went through pain to push out of me, id just be overjoyed and overwhelmed with love that i made my own little human. like- how would they have reacted if their baby was born disabled or something? like idk man i wouldn't have even cared if they looked like me or my partner or about their agab. ik it's fine to just be like oh i hope they're a girl/boy/ look like me/you, whatever, but i just don't get that. but to say that they thought they'd have "pretty eyes" meaning green eyes? i just- ?????? like talk about taking your child for granted im sorry-
also sorry but that's just how genetics work. the gene for brown eyes is dominant, so if one parent has brown eyes, it's highly unlikely their kids will have any other color eyes, especially if that parent has descendants with all brown eyes. so like....you should know if your partner has brown eyes, your kids probably will too and shouldn't be so disappointed if that's the case....im js

My wife’s mother would constantly talk about her own weight and express insecurities surrounding that. And would even talk about her growing daughters weight along with her father. When her dad died she got a lawyer to release her daughters 50k inheritance and spent it mostly on plastic surgery. She would call her daughter sensitive when she got upset about a comment. She was of course shocked to find out, years later, that her daughter had developed an ED.
My wife still struggles with body issues despite weighing a healthy yet still underweight for her height 90 lbs. The hardest thing was having to see her wage the internal battle of wanting to feel beautiful during pregnancy and feeling not just that she wasn’t but guilty for seeing herself that way.
She’s never judgmental of others. Despite my admittedly biased opinion that she is conventionally extremely beautiful. And yet chose to marry me.. a 5’4 dork that plays Pokémon and reads fantasy novels. So she’s not shallow. But somehow she just cannot see herself as beautiful. I decided to give them one more try until the colorism video even though we come from a multicultural family where we have family members who, are light to very dark, and beautiful babies, green, blue, brown, hazel, gray. And some of the people are dark and have these color eyes, and some are light more light then her, and have brown eyes. That was the last straw; I told my nieces, and nephews who don’t understand they cannot watch them any more, and unsubscribed from them those who could understand like my twin who is light, and has blond hair, and brown hair, her kids are light, my kids, are light and don’t look like there is any black in them do to my family being multiracial, but my they don’t get these people they said love, and embrace your race, if you have colorism you hate who you are and need therapy to love yourself. The sad thing is a lot of biracial kids attempted suicide, or start drugs my cousin did that’s how; I know do to colorism from there white in laws, or there parents and eventually braced who they where because of us, and letting them know there beautiful, and those who put colorism in your head need Jesus, and need self love. I only use insta for following architecture, food, and hair care accounts 😄😄 I don't know what picture account I clicked, but one day the Instagram algorithm started filling my explore page with their accounts, their kids accounts, their "fan page" accounts, their kids' "fan page" accounts 😩😩 I swear I spent 2 months telling the app I as "not interested" and blocking their shit before it stopped. I didn't even know who they were! I just knew they looked vapid and obnoxious.

I’m a hella light skinned First Nations woman, when I was born my mom couldn’t care less that I was pale, she was just so happy I was born healthy (she had a high risk pregnancy and lost my twin early on in the pregnancy) my dad was just looking at me in awe, and couldn’t let me go. His family would later go on to mention how I got their “good genes” because I inherited the pale skin from their side. I was born with blue eyes, I actually have eyes that change colours, they range from Bright green to gold depending on the day. My skin colour is a joke in my family. I have issues with how pale I am but I’ve been working through it. I’m First Nations, but I’ve been called a fake by others from other tribes because I’m pale… I couldn’t imagine my parents commenting on my looks as a new born. I was alive and healthy that’s all that mattered.

the comments about the baby’s eyes gives the same energy as the comment “good hair.” It stems from the ideal that straight and or loosely curly hair is far more attractive than kinky coiled hair that most black people have. As a black woman I’ve come across plenty of family members and other black people who have thrown out comments about wishing their kids had “good hair” or that they were blessed to have “good hair” or that their mixed children have “good hair” or even that I didn’t have good hair. It’s disheartening to hear and shameful. If you’re reading this and you have kinky coiled hair just know that it’s absolutely as gorgeous as any other hair type. Whether you have long, short, bald, wavy, curly, coiled, black, blonde, red, hell even green hair, you’re gorgeous!!

In a decade or two, these children of family vloggers are probably going to suffer tremendously, just like what we've seen time and time again for the past few generations with child stars in traditional media. From Drew Barrymore to Lindsay Lohan, now more recently Alyson Stoner. All child stars, with 2 of them coming out to share their stories of neglect & exploitation.
It actually disgusts me how young viewers of this type of content are, too. I'd understand parents relating to family vloggers, but the overwhelming majority of the fans in their social media comments, are seemingly under 16.😔

I'm a brown person and let me just say in india colorism is such a problem. I know exactly what it is like constantly being told oh you've gotten tanner (read darker) when literally i spent time out during summer and it is natural! It is so triggering and frustrating to watch Bianca talk like that!!!!
But thank you so much for your hard work this was a great video!! ❤️

I've heard there used to be a lot of commercials and advertisements for skin bleaching products in India. Is that still the case? It reminds me of how the "ethnic" isle in Walmart has a bunch of relaxers and skin "brightening" soaps and lotions.

    • @niruktakrishnan5855

@@wigglemelon8807 yesss omgg it was quite the problem. In fact even until a few years back the skin care products all focused on 'lightening' it is only now that brands have changed their branding and started saying 'brightening' and 'glowing'. But still people continue pursuing skin lightening.

I don't understand why the child actor laws aren't enforced on UA-camrs, especially considering how many are based in LA where they're the strongest. Not just the ones pertaining to the amount of time they make these children work, but also the "Jackie Coogan law" that stipulates a percentage of their earnings are held in trust so they don't spend it all like so many of these creators obviously are.
    It's downright disgusting 🤮

    • @aaronhoy3410
      @aaronhoy3410 2 роки тому +3

"I don't understand why the child actor laws aren't enforced on UA-camrs..." - Well primarily because all the child actor laws are prohibitions & requirements that are placed on the 3rd-party employers, not the parents. That relationship dynamic doesn't exist here... the parents are typically the ones with the relationship with UA-cam/Google, though their status would be more akin to independent contractors [if even that,] instead of employees, the parents also typically do more work than the kids as they are usually also in the videos they do the editing & what not. So, it wouldn't be possible to simply extend the child acting laws to people who have family-based social media earnings.
There are in fact very few restrictions placed on parents in regards to their children. They are almost entirely limited to prohibitions on things categorized as either neglect or physical and/or sexual abuse. There is one requirement relating to education, though they can achieve this either through the public school system, private schools, or homeschooling. Beyond these things though there are very few, if any, parameters placed around parents in regards to their kids.
If trying to make a new law that would apply to social media families whose kids are involved is determining what portion of the earnings are the kids vs. the parents & how would the law interact with the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of other families where parents have their kid(s) help them do work for money in the job the parent(s) does? [we'll just ignore the implications trying to regulate this stuff has on things that are unpaid labor like chores/housework that kids have to do.] To give just 2 specific examples that do not encompass the full range of these things. While growing up I had a neighbor where the father's work was the landscaping/lawn mowing business he had, the family had 2 kids & for most of my life the kids would be working with the dad on most weekends. Then for a number of years [from like 5th grade through 10th grade,] one of my best friends' family were farmers. His chores routinely involved farm work after school & on weekends. For both situations the workload the kids had during the summer was much greater. Now, in neither case was the situation what I would think of as excessive or anything. The kids still did their own stuff as well & while my neighbors kids were years older than me so we never really hung out or anything much with the best friend we would hang out a fair bit. So, how would a law regarding the social media family stuff interact with & effect these types of situations? There are tons of situations that are not the exact same as the 2 examples I gave, but nonetheless involve kids helping parent(s) do an activity the parent(s) do for income.
None of this is meant as an argument saying laws shouldn't exist to regulate or place some type of parameters around them to prevent exploitation of kids by parents... just merely to point out the complexities & explain why it isn't so simple as extend the existing child acting laws to this other category of people. On the surface social media families look similar to child acting situations, but in reality they are much more similar to the other stuff I talked about.
