I have been having big issues with club head control and in video my swing just looks stuck. I wasn't opening my hips and I also wasn't straightening my leg at all. The right leg ended up being the key to opening things up. The part I wasn't expecting was how it helped my tempo, I think that goes along with your "effortless" part

2 legends! I have been seeing my local 'teacher' for a few lessons and all he keeps telling me is 'stop straightening your right leg' yet when I ask him why, he can't tell me. It just doesn't match the 'model player' on his ipad. What a joke. Do not go to 'teachers' who have zero idea about the golf swing, listen to the Eric and Tom!

Another awesome video Eric that again, really helped me.
After watching a recent video of myself from the back, I noticed that there was very little daylight between my knees at top of back swing. This was because I was purposely tensing my right leg to try to avoid "swaying".
Now, I flare my right foot slightly and allow my right leg to straighten. This has even helped me to prevent shank shots as I now have more space on the downswing to get the lovely in-to-out plane we all want to achieve! So pleased with the progress this one move (coupled with shoulder stack relationship with the ball, another awesome video by the way) has had on my game.
    Love your content Eric!

You two guys, Tom & Eric, really work well together. The only improvement I'd suggest is to ask Tom to wear short pants because that would permit us to see his knee straighten. That said, the information does make the hip movement easier and that makes the shoulder movement easier which, in turn, makes it a lot easier to get depth in the backswing. On my own, I've found that it's easier for me to get depth, if I go deep when my hands are close to the height of my hips. In other words, I'm less effective when I try to gain depth when my hands are shoulder high. This lesson was good.

Since changing to S&T no more back pain. No more chunks. And I can now draw the ball. Driver is now way more consistent. Fairway and hybrid clubs pure and long. Irons still need a little work suffering from the occasional thin shot. So working on a setup routine to fix that as it has more to do with ball / stance position. The best advice I can give is to slow you backswing. Great video guys.

Love this for all the right reasons. I think this works even better when backswing focus is on turning the right hip back, not focusing on left shoulder, hip, or knee. For me, Focusing on turning right hip back leads to straightening right leg smoothly, keeps the weight where it should be, and also gets right shoulder back. Importantly, it helps keep me from moving toward ball and losing my spine angle on downswing. Any thoughts on the right hip focus?

      Hey JZM!
When watching good swings you would see the pressure moving toward the right heel and the left toes in terms of front and back.
In terms of away or toward the target pressure to trail foot EARLY then back to 50/50ish by the top

its OK to do....you want to straighten SOME relative to where you start at setup.....SOME....but not all the way locked.
This helps turn the hips and tilt the hips.
The turn helps you make a backswing that long enough and with enough depth
The tilt helps you keep your inclination to the ground and not stand up
      Hope that helps

I'm not certain I understand your question, but here's my 2 cents. Both Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are trying to get their trail-side hip turned to the maximum. Straightening the trail-leg helps do this. It's important to rotate, as if you are on an axis, instead of swaying. Having your feet "flared" outward will help your trail-foot dig into the turf and push off as you transition into the downswing. As you continue your swing, there will be a point that you need to straighten the lead-leg and push your lead-hip backwards. Mike Malaksa and Eric Cogorno shot a video where Mike explained this. I have found the Orange Whip training aid to be helpful training my feet and legs to work in this manner. Again, not sure I understood your question, and just my 2 cents.

Mr.Hogan and Mr. Palmer never kept the weight on the lead leg throughout the entire golfswing. Both of these guys loaded that trail heel. They both openly admitted to this fact. Mr. Hogan and Mr. Palmer were not S&Ters. I dislike the fact that someone can freeze a frame in a golf swing and try to pass it off as their own method in order to profit. If they wish to promote their method that's fine but to falsely do it on the backs of these great champions is B.S.

There will always be a couple of anomalies...but if you look at the greatest golfers over a long period of time, the pattern of straightening the trail leg on the backswing is the most common choice due to the large amount of benefits it provides the golfer👍

There are different ways to do it. You are correct....butt of club at the ball (at left arm parallel in backswing, not the top) would be considered "on plane"

Why are pros not doing Stack and Tilt if its so good....they all have a pronounced weight shift in the swing and and dont have that awkward reverse tilty look that Tom has. I personally find that when I do S&T I can't push off my right foot which feels like I'm missing out on a power source.

Problem with me is I straighten it too fast...in other words I have a super early hip turn so I have had to work on keeping it bent but then I can't get a deep enough turn...thus has always been an issue for me

Yep I see what as well.....the reality with a golf swing if you can OVER DO, UNDER DO or get the timing wrong for just about everything :)

Oh god - I just figured out the exact opposite and it changed my life. You may have just ruined lives with this one. You straighten that leg and you lock out that hip - can’t turn or tilt properly

Lol thanks for your feedback! Fortunately I see about 1,000 swings every month and 80-90% need to let right leg straighten more and allow hips to turn. This allows rib cage and torso to turn to get adequate depth and swing length.
Sounds like you may have been overdoing it
